Abstract

Sacha Inchi cultivation is not yet known in Baumata Village, Kupang Regency. Therefore, cultivation needs to be carried out because the various benefits of this plant’s products are very important for the health of the local community. Sacha Inchi can serve as an important source of nutrients that may help address malnutrition and cardiovascular diseases. With its high protein and healthy fat content, Sacha Inchi can be an alternative source of protein that is more affordable and accessible compared to animal-based protein sources. This activity aims to introduce Sacha Inchi cultivation to the Fenun Farmers Group in Baumata Village and to assess their level of acceptance toward cultivation techniques, post-harvest handling, and processed products made from Sacha Inchi. The method involves introducing an existing cultivation model from the Dryland Research Station of Undana, conducting outreach on cultivation, post-harvest handling, and processed Sacha Inchi products, followed by practical training at the Dryland Research Station of Undana, and continuing with practice of cultivation and processing  on the Fenun farmers group’s place. The activity enabled farmers to learn Sacha Inchi cultivation techniques, starting from seed germination, seedling production, planting, and crop maintenance. The germination method used resulted in 85–90% seed germination, 100% healthy seedling growth, and 100% successful growth of plants in the field. Farmers also learned how to peel Sacha Inchi fruits into raw materials ready for processing and how to make Sacha Inchi seed–based products such as roasted nuts, cookies, brownies, and vegetable oil. Coclusion: The Fenun farmers group successfully cultivated Sacha Inchi plants and were able to carry out post-harvest handling and product processing effectively.

Abstract

Empulur batang Gewang merupakan biomassa palma non-kayu yang melimpah diNusa Tenggara Timur, namun pemanfaatannya sebagai sumber selulosa strukturalbelum banyak dikaji. Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) menentukan kandungan selulosadan lignin residu empulur batang Gewang dengan metode serat deterjen ADF–ADL,(2) membandingkan efektivitas metode ekstraksi alkali soda– AQ dan acetosolvterhadap rendemen selulosa yang dihasilkan, (3) menganalisis pengaruh agenbleaching hidrogen peroksida (H₂O₂) dan natrium hipoklorit (NaOCl) terhadaprendemen dan kecerahan selulosa, serta (4) mengkarakterisasi panjang seratselulosa empulur batang Gewang. Analisis ADF–ADL menunjukkan bahwa empulurbatang Gewang memiliki selulosa residu sekitar 10,25% dan lignin residu 1,02%pada basis berat kering, menandakan fraksi selulosa struktural yang terbatas dandominasi karbohidrat non- struktural. Ekstraksi menggunakan metode alkali soda–AQ menghasilkan rendemen selulosa 12,7%, sedangkan metode acetosolv hanya3,2% dari berat kering bahan awal. Proses bleaching dengan kombinasi metodeekstraksi dan agen pemutih memberikan rendemen 54,7% (acetosolv–H₂O₂), 54,0%(alkali–H₂O₂), 49,6% (acetosolv–NaOCl), dan 38,3% (alkali–NaOCl), dengan nilaikecerahan L berturut-turut 64,87; 62,31; 71,40; dan 67,97. Analisis One-WayANOVA diikuti uji lanjut Bonferroni menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan kecerahanantar perlakuan bleaching bersifat nyata (p < 0,05). Pengukuran 300 seratmenghasilkan panjang serat rata-rata 0,53 mm dengan kisaran 0,15–1,20 mm,sehingga serat selulosa empulur batang Gewang tergolong serat pendek. Secarakeseluruhan, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa empulur batang Gewangmemiliki potensi terbatas sebagai sumber selulosa struktural, dengan metode alkalisoda–AQ lebih efektif dibandingkan acetosolv dalam melepaskan selulosa. Ditinjau dari karakter panjang serat dan rendemen, selulosa empulur batang Gewang lebihberpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai komponen campuran dalam sistem pulp non-kayu,bahan pengisi komposit, atau bahan baku awal produk selulosa bernilai tambah skalaterbatas, daripada sebagai sumber utama pulp kertas berkekuatan tinggi.Kata kunci: selulosa, empulur batang Gewang, alkali soda–AQ, acetosolv,bleaching, panjang serat
