Abstract

Students' low critical thinking skills are an obstacle in learning uniform circular motion. The aim of the study was to describe the effect of using STEM-based 3D-multimedia in improving the critical thinking skills of students from the northern coast of Java in uniform circular motion material. This research is a pre-experimental with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The research sample was 26 students of class X-IPA MA Hasyimiyah Bancar. The treatment of the samples was carried out by using STEM-based 3D-multimedia during four face-to-face lessons in class. The results show that the students' critical thinking skills improved by 56,1% after the implementation of the STEM-based 3D multimedia. This quantitative result is proven by critical thinking skills indicators that can be identified in the students' critical thinking skills test answers. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of STEM-based 3D-multimedia enhanced the students' critical thinking skills in uniform circular motion quite significantly.

Abstract

Many e-books have been developed to learn specific physics concepts with comprehensive features. This means that e-books not only contain the primary components such as animations, videos, and illustrations but also many of them are equipped with virtual experiments. However, these e-books often need more integration of the assessment process, which is an important part of the learning experience. To address this, an all-in-one e-book concept called Aneboo has been developed. Aneboo includes interactive physics illustrations, virtual laboratories, worksheets, videos, and critical thinking assessments, all built into a single media platform for learning the concept of static fluids in junior high school. Additionally, Aneboo examines its function in automatically assessing critical thinking skills. The development of Aneboo follows the Hannafin & Peck development model, which includes needs assessment, design and development, implementation, and identification of similarities between manual and automatic scoring. As a result, Aneboo has achieved a validation score ranging from 95% to 97%. Moreover, Aneboo has the potential to automatically assess critical thinking skills through the similarity check feature embedded in the media.

Abstract

Fluid dynamics is the basic knowledge of technology development that is important to be mastered, but students still have difficulties with it. This research aims to determine the students’ increased conceptual mastery and problem-solving skills using e-module. The method of this study uses the quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test control group research design. Each student is given questions on pre-test and post-test conceptual mastery in multiple-choice and problem-solving skills in the form of descriptions. Student answers were analyzed with descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon, and the n-gain tests. After the e-module was implemented, the increase in conceptual mastery of the experimental class was higher than the control class, with an n-gain value of 0.69 (moderate) for the experimental class and 0.46 (moderate) for the control class. The increase in the problem-solving skill of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class, with an n-gain value of 0.59 (intermediate) for the experimental class and 0.28 for the control class (novice). So, this e-module can improve students' conceptual mastery and problem-solving skills. The reason is caused by the learning process of experimental students who can learn actively, independently, intensively, and repeatedly using the e-module for conceptual mastering by the stages of the scientific approach through role-playing.

Abstract

The research endeavors to investigate the impact of implementing discovery-inquiry learning concerning the topic of temperature and heat on the enhancement of students’ critical thinking abilities and concept mastery. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design, employing a pretest-posttest control group framework. A cluster random sampling technique was applied to select the research sample, which comprised 36 students from class XI MIPA 3 (control group) and class XI MIPA 4 (experimental group) at SMA Negeri Rambipuji. The assessment instruments employed were two essay-shaped tests, specifically designed for evaluating critical thinking ability and concept mastery. Data analysis involved the utilization of independent sample t-test and effect size test. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ critical thinking ability and concept mastery with a robust effect size, categorizing the impact of discovery-inquiry learning as substantial. Consequently, it can be inferred that discovery-inquiry learning is efficacious in augmenting students’ critical thinking abilities and concept mastery pertaining to the subject of temperature and heat.DOI: 10.17977/jps.v11i22023p065

Abstract

The student worksheets development activity was carried out because its use in learning was still relatively simple, thus influencing students' enthusiasm for mastering concepts and developing creative thinking skills. This is due to limited teacher innovation in developing teaching materials that suit student needs. This research aims to determine the feasibility of project-based student worksheets learning and its influence on mastery and creative thinking skills. The feasibility of Projrct-based Learning (PjBL)-based worksheets learning was measured using the validation results of media experts, teaching module experts, and field practice experts, with scores of 78.45%, 86.11%, and 92.70%, respectively. Mastery of concepts and creative thinking abilities were measured using the Independent Sample T-test based on pretest and post-test data. The implementation results show an increase in mastery of concepts and creative thinking skills in classes that implement PjBL-based worksheets compared to classes that do not implement PjBL-based worksheets. The values are 0.003 and 0.032, respectively (significance level <0.05).

Abstract

This study aims to identify madrasah students' Computational Thinking (CT) skills on temperature and heat material. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method using 5 CT-test essay questions to 53 grade XI IPA one of the Islamic Senior High School in Probolinggo. Data analysis techniques in research consist of 3 stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. Data analysis showed indicators of students' CT skills on a scale of 5 consisting of decomposition 3.90, recognition pattern 3.63, abstraction 2.83, and algorithm 2.37. Based on the study’s results, it can be concluded that the CT skills of the Islamic Senior High School in Probolinggo at temperature and heat are included in the medium category. Several indicators of CT skills are still challenging for students, especially in developing algorithms and abstractions. Some students need help identifying the steps to solve complex problems in understanding abstraction concepts and algorithms. In this case, practice, intensive tutoring, and student collaboration can help improve students' skills to overcome these difficulties.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the causes of students' failures in solving diode circuit problems. Research data were obtained through tests, dialogs, and interviews with 12 students of the physics education study program at Universitas PGRI Madiun. The research began by providing diode circuit test questions. Referring to the answers to the diode circuit test questions, an investigation was conducted through a basic circuit mastery test, followed by dialogs and interviews. The data from the test results, dialogs, and interviews in this study led to the conclusion that the common causes of students' failures in solving diode circuit problems are the inability to apply Ohm's law and Kirchhoff's law correctly, as well as the inconsistency and lack of systematic application of basic circuit concepts. A specific finding regarding the causes of failure in solving diode circuit problems is the conflict between physical and mathematical analyses. Based on the common causes of students' failures in solving diode circuit problems, a series of conceptual scaffolding needs to be designed. In conceptual scaffolding, complex circuits are transformed into several basic circuits to facilitate scaffolding for each basic concept. Procedural scaffolding needs to be designed to address failures resulting from the conflict between physical and mathematical analyses. One necessary step in procedural scaffolding is confirming answers using Kirchhoff's law.
