Abstract

The current challenges of industrial agriculture focus on environmental safety. Water quality is an indicator of environmental sustainability. The cultivation system has an impact on water quality. The aim of this study is to assess the water quality of agricultural systems. Anthropogenically, agricultural activities have an impact on environmental aspects. Identification of agricultural systems is clustered into organic and non-organic agriculture. The agricultural system in Indonesia is regulated based on SNI 6729;2016. Water sampling was carried out at three points, including upstream, middle (irrigation), and downstream (river). Water sampling at each point was repeated three times. Assessment of the physical quality of water using the Combo Quality Meter. Water samples for chemical and biological analysis at the Environmental Laboratory, Perum. Jasa Tirta 1. Determination of water quality standards refers to Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001. In the upstream section, pollution can be seen in the biological oxygen demand (BOD) indicator, with an average of 15.03 mg L-1 for organic and conventional systems. The phosphate indicator averaged 1.96 mg L-1. In the middle section (irrigation), the pollution indicators for BOD, phosphate, and total Coliform parameters were 6.76 mg L-1 for the organic system, 7.37 mg L-1 for the non-organic system, and 1,290 CFU mL-1. In the downstream (river), pollution indicators consist of total suspended solids (TSS), BOD, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total Coliform. Anthropogenic identification for clustering agricultural systems at the research location uses stratified disproportional sampling. The results of this research provide recommendations for water quality management for sustainable agricultural environmental management.

Abstract

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is a plantation commodity that is widely cultivated in Indonesia, this commodity is very important in Indonesia because it has played a role in the Indonesian economy since 1930. The problem faced in cocoa cultivation is the lack of nutrient availability due to chemicals that cause residue in the soil, resulting in the growth of cocoa seedlings are not optimal, to optimize the growth of cocoa seedlings, provide a mixture of organic fertilizer in the planting medium and provide mycorrhiza. This research used the basic pattern of a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 2 factors and repeated 3 times. The first factor is the dose of dry leaf compost (K) which consists of 3 levels, namely: Without dry leaf compost treatment/control (K₀), dry leaf compost 60 g/polybag (K₁), Dry leaf compost dose 120 g/polybag (K₂) and the second factor is the arbuscular mycorrhizal dose (M) which consists of 3 levels, namely: Without arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus treatment/control (M₀), arbuscular mycorrhizal dose of 15 g/polybag (M₁), and arbuscular mycorrhizal dose of 30 g/polybag (M₂) So there are 27 experimental units. The results of the study showed that (1) there was a real interaction between the treatment of compost dose (K) and mycorrhizal dose (M) in safety. The combination of compost dose (K) 120 g/plant and mycorrhiza dose (M) 30 g/plant (K2M2) was the best treatment combination. (2) The treatment of giving a compost dose (K) had a significant effect on the variables of plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and plant dry weight. The best treatment was a compost dose of 120g/plant (K2). (3) The mycorrhizal dose (M) treatment had a very significant effect on the variables of plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, and plant dry weight. The best treatment was a mycorrhizal dose of 30g/plant (M2).

Abstract

Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) are parasites that are effective in controlling plant pests that can be propagated in vivo. In vivo propagation requires a host because EPN is an obligate parasite, one of which is the larvae of Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae). These larvae are easy to obtain, easy to cultivate, easy to use, have a short life cycle, and have a high nutritional content. This study aimed to examine the suitability of H. illucens larvae in the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema spp. in vivo propagation. This research was conducted by examining the mortality rate and infection rate of EPN in H. illucens larvae with variations in wounds, concentrations of infective nematodes, and larval size. The test results were compared with the larvae of T. molitor which are commonly used as hosts. The results of the mortality rate study showed that injured H. illucens larvae were more susceptible to the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema spp.. There was a significant difference in mortality rates between uninjured and injured although there was no difference in results due to variations in EPN concentrations. The infection rate test showed a significant difference in wound variation and larval size of H. illucens although the results were not good enough when compared to the level of infection of T. molitor larvae. Keywords:  Hermetia illucens, Tenebrio molitor, Steinernema spp., Entomopathogenic nematodes, In vivo

Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is a leaf vegetable that has a high level of consumer demand and commercial value and can be cultivated using a combination of hydroponic substrate and drip irrigation methods. This research aims to determine the effect of the time interval for providing nutrients on the growth and harvest results of three lettuce plant varieties. Plants were cultivated on cocopeat and husk charcoal media (ratio 1:3) and arranged using a Randomized Block Design (RAK) consisting of two treatments. The first treatment is the nutritional interval which consists of an interval of 2 hours with a discharge of 17 ml (I1), 3 hours with a discharge of 25 ml (I2), and 4 hours using a discharge of 34 ml (I3). The second treatment is the plant variety which consists of the Grand Rapids variety (V1), the Green Coral variety (V2), and the Red Coral variety (V3). The data is analyzed using analysis of variance and if the results obtained are significantly different then a DMRT test will be carried out. The research results showed that the Green Coral lettuce variety was better than the Grand Rapids and Red Coral varieties. This is shown by the results with the highest and best values for the observation variables of number of leaves, plant fresh weight, and chlorophyll content. The nutritional interval which consists of an interval of 2, 4, and 6 hours gave results that were inversely proportional to the variety treatment, that is, they were not significantly different in all observed variables. Keywords: lettuce plants, plant varieties, nutritional interval, substrate hydroponics

Abstract

Banana (Musa paradisiaca) is one of the important horticultural commodities. This study aims to measure the physical and geometrical parameters of three different bananas (Muli, Ambon, and Kepok) and to develop prediction equations using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model. In this study the backpropagation ANN model with supervised learning method was used. The ANN model had one output node, two hidden layers, and network architecture of 8 inputs, namely fruit weight and volume, projected area and roundness of the fruit, cross section, peel color, and geometric mean fruit cross section diameter. The data for building the model and testing the model were respectively 70% and 30% of the 150 data number in total. The results showed that the best ANN model structure for estimating Muli, Ambon and Kepok bananas was purelin-logsig-logsig with an RMSE value of 0.0077 and an R2 of 0.9999. This shows that the ANN model is highly robust to predict the banana types. Using the built model, the accuracy of the prediction results is 100%.  Keywords:  Artificial Neural Network,  Banana fruits,  Geometry attribute.
