Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of fostering students’ spirituality in a pesantren-based higher education environment, particularly through the Tahfidz Zone Program at the University of Darussalam Gontor. The program is designed to strengthen students’ relationship with the Qur'an while cultivating Islamic character, discipline, and spiritual awareness in their daily lives. This study aims to analyze the role of the Tahfidz Zone Program in enhancing the spirituality of students at the University of Darussalam Gontor. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving students participating in the Tahfidz Zone Program as well as the program supervisors. The data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the program's implementation. The findings indicate that the Tahfidz Zone Program plays a significant role in improving the quality of worship, strengthening discipline, enhancing students’ closeness to the Qur'an, and fostering moral values and spiritual awareness. Therefore, the Tahfidz Zone Program serves as an effective model of spiritual development in supporting the realization of holistic Islamic education within a pesantren-based higher education institution.

Abstract

Arabic language proficiency assessment in higher education still mostly uses linear score-based tests that do not fully show participant performative ability. This study aims to develop an Arabic proficiency assessment model using computerized adaptive testing integrated with ACTFL standard in Islamic higher education context. The research uses a staged design and validation procedure, including mapping ACTFL indicators into test items, developing a tiered item bank, expert validation, and limited field trial. The results show the adaptive test model can generate individual test paths based on responses, adjust item difficulty progressively, and produce classification in ACTFL level bands. Expert review confirms construct suitability and adaptive structure feasibility, while the trial indicates the adaptive mechanism and analytic outputs function operationally. This model contributes to technology-based Arabic assessment by combining proficiency standards and adaptive measurement in one interpretative framework, and supports more accurate level placement and competency mapping.
