This study aims to determine the effect of human resource competence and the application of regional financial accounting systems to the quality of financial statements in the Gianyar Regency, both partially and simultaneously, the number of employees used as samples in this study amounted to 45 people, the data used in this study are Primary data distributed through questionnaires. The results showed that partially or simultaneously human resource competency (X1) and the application of the regional financial accounting system (X2) had a positive effect on the quality of regional financial reports. The magnitude of the influence of human resource competence and the application of the regional financial accounting system by 54.4% while the remaining 45.6% is explained by other variables outside this research model.

Conversational implicatures is an important thing that need to be interpreted in a conversation to avoid misunderstanding between the speaker and hearer so that the goal of communication can be reached. This research focuses on analysing the types of flouting maxims used by the characters in science fiction movie entitled Ready Player One since it is important to make the conversation become more effective. The theory of cooperative principle proposed by Grice used to analyze the types of flouting maxims. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to describes the data in order to provide deep understanding about the types of flouting maxims used by the characters in the movie. The result of the research shows that there are 25 data of flouting maxim in Ready Player One movie. Flouting the maxim of quantity is the highest frequency of flouting maxim in this movie with 8 number of occurrence or 32% occurrence. Furthermore, flouting the maxim of relation and manner has the same frequency with 7 data or 28% occurrence. Flouting the maxim of quality is the lowest frequency of flouting maxim with 3 data or 12% occurrence.

The study concerns with the politeness strategies that occur in the conversation uttered by the characters in Webtoon entitled Nano List. This study aims at analyzing the reasons of applying politeness strategies between the characters in Webtoon entitled Nano List. This study used descriptive qualitative method to analyze and arrange the data which means that the collected data were analyzed by the reason of using certain politeness strategies. The data related with the reason of applying politeness strategies were analyzed using Social Factors theory by Holmes and supported by Face-Threatening Act theory by Brown and Levinson. The result of the study shows that there are four aspects of Social Factors which influence the use of politeness strategies, those are Participant, Setting, Topic and Function of the Interaction. Participant of the Interaction was most frequently used in the conversation between the characters in the Webtoon entitled Nano List because the characters in that Webtoon mostly want to show their friendliness towards the hearer.

This study entitled ”Simile and Metaphor in The Novel The Sky is Falling”. Figurative language is commonly found in a literary work, such as a novel. From several types of Figurative language, Simile and Metaphor are the commonly appear. This study aims to analyze simile and metaphor as the types of figurative language within The Sky is Falling novel. This research uses a desriptive qualitative method to describe the types found and the meaning contained in the sentences of the novel. This article uses theory from Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963) to explain the types of figurative language. In general, the results of this study found Simile with 8 data and Metaphor with 4 data. The dominant of the two types figurative language is Simile. This article aims to add insight in the public in order to understand to analyze the sentences of the novel and understand the meaning of novel.

This research aims to identify the kinds of figurative languages used in the chosen song lyrics of Linkin Park and to examine the meanings of figurative languages in the song lyrics of Linkin Park. Several song lyrics from Linkin Park that were randomly taken are the data base of this analysis. In the analysis of data from this report, descriptive and qualitative methods were used. The theory of Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963: 367) studied the types of figurative languages and also the accepted theory of meaning proposed by Leech (1981: 16) will be analyzed in the selected song lyrics of Linkin Park to explain the meaning of figurative language. The researcher assumes, after the study has been finished, that the chosen song lyrics of Linkin Park consist of of 21 lyrics that used figurative language. The sentence has figurative language in Linkin Park song lyrics are 14% of simile, 9% of metaphor, 19% of personification, 48% of hyperbole, 5% of synecdoche, 5% of metonymy.

People are coping with various problems in life that may influence their mental health if they fail to manage them. One kind of mental illness is depression that is frequently marked by the feeling of helplessness, disliking oneself, and shame for being weak. Being aware of depression signs by learning from any kind of media including movie will help people to control their mental and emotional condition. This study attempts to find out the effects of depression on the main character in Her, a two-hour-five-minute movie that is said to be a romance narrative about the relationship between Theodore, a sensitive, depressed and lonely guy with his computer operating system (OS) called Samantha. This study applied a qualitative descriptive method that was realized through observation and content analysis technique. To reveal the psychological exploration focusing on Theodore’s depression, the obtained data were classified based on the relevant categories describing effects of depression. The results show that there are five effects of depression taking place on the life of the main character, Theodore, namely (1) self-blame (2) low self-esteem, (3) loss of appetite, (4) trouble concentrating and (5) trouble sleeping. These five effects are triggered by Theodore’s helplessness due to his divorce that he makes him difficult to move on and the surrounding environment that frequently mocks him.

The article entitled "Conceptual Metaphor In the Poetry Entitled Love Songs by Sara Teasdale" focuses on finding the types of metaphors in Sara teasdale's poetry. This research aims to find the types of metaphors and also to analyze what meanings are contained in the lyrics of the Love Song poem. This topic is part of Figurative Language which aims to convey a message imaginatively and figuratively. The data obtained were analyzed using the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (2003) and to analyze the meaning contained in each data found, the authors used the theory of Leech (1981). This study uses the observation method in collecting data and using qualitative methods in analyzing the data. The results of the analysis found a total of 26 metaphorical data, of which 10 data contained structural metaphors, 10 data contained orientational metaphors and 6 data contained ontological metaphors. From all the data collected, the authors found 1 type of meaning, namely connotative meaning. Keywords: Poetry, Metaphor, Meaning

Companies use advertisements to promote their products and send particular messages for the target audiences. An advertisement is a piece of text that tells people about something which includes persuading people to buy a product or service. In general, an advertisement is used to introduce a product by a certain company since it has the power to influence and persuade people to do particular action. Signs are commonly used in advertisements so that it is attractive and can convey messages efffectively. This study aimed to analyze the meaning of verbal and non-verbal signs which found in Colgate toothpaste advertisement videos. This study used Colgate toothpaste advertisement videos which taken from YouTube. The theories used in this study are the semiotic theory by Saussure (1983) to determine verbal and non-verbal signs and the theory of meaning by Barthes (1977) to discover the implied meaning of verbal and non-verbal signs found in Colgate toothpaste advertisements. This study uses the descriptive method to analyze the data. As the result, the advertisements show the verbal and visual signs support the company in promoting and informing its product. In this study, connotative meaning occurred dominantly rather that denotative meaning because the advertisements used more hidden meanings rather than literal meaning to convey the messages toward the audiences.

ABSTRACT Advertisement has a function to create brand awareness, products, services and ideas, that can convince customers if the company’s services or products ideas are best to buy. The IKEA advertisement aims to provide information to the people about how to make furniture with good function and design affordable for everyone. Furthermore, this study combines verbal and visual signs to give the advertisement a certain effect. This study is aimed to describe the hidden meaning that can be found in IKEA advertisement “Home is a Different World”. This study uses Semiotics theory by Saussure cited in Chandler (2007) and theory of meaning by Barthes (1967) that is supported by the theory of color terms proposed by Wierzbicka (1996). The data were collected through the observation method. The descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the data in this study. The study concludes that both verbal and visual signs found in each data carry a hidden meaning. In general, the advertisement conveys the meaning to encourage the audience to promote their product by giving a nice ideas to make a good home design and get better life at home by creating meaningful moments with our family at home.

Abstract - Flouting maxims happens when speakers may flout a maxim or they fail to fulfil the maxims of Cooperative Principle to convey hidden meaning in their utterances. This study is concerned on finding out the types of flouting maxims that used by the characters in the movie A Star Is Born. This study was applied the theory of pragmatics from Grice (1975) to find out the types of flouting maxims and supported theory of context of situation from Halliday and Hasan (1989). The data were collected by direct observation method and analysed by descriptive qualitative method. The finding is presented in formal and informal method. Our finding shows that there are four types of flouting maxims which predominantly used by the characters in the movie A Star Is Born, they are: flouting maxim of quantity (45%), flouting maxim of quality (10%), flouting maxim of relevance (30%) and flouting maxim of manner (15%).
