Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in children under five years of age due to long-term inadequate nutrient intake characterized by shorter height than other children of the same age. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between the application of clean and healthy living behavior indicators in household settings with stunting in toddlers. Method: Analytic observational research with a cross sectional approach. The population was 124 mothers of toddlers and the sample obtained as many as 95 samples selected by simple random sampling technique through proportional allocation. Independent variables consist of childbirth assisted by health workers, exclusive breastfeeding, use of clean water, use of healthy latrines and not smoking in the house. The dependent variable was stunting in toddlers. The research instrument was a questionnaire that was tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis used chi square test. Results: The study showed that childbirth assisted by health workers (ρ = 0.000), exclusive breastfeeding (ρ = 0.000), use of clean water (ρ = 0.000), use of healthy latrines (ρ = 0.008) and not smoking in the house (ρ = 0001) there is a significant relationship with stunting in toddlers. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of implementation of indicators of childbirth assisted by health workers, exclusive breastfeeding, use of clean water, use of healthy latrines and not smoking in the house with stunting in toddlers. Suggestion: For the community to further improve the practice of clean and healthy living behavior in order to improve the degree of public health and support child growth and development.

Abstract

Introduction: The incidence of malaria infection is influenced by several factors, including micronutrient intake. Micronutrient intake is essential for maintaining normal nutritional status and maintaining a healthy immune system. Vitamin A, zinc, and iron are micronutrients that function to boost the immune system. This study aims analyze the relationship between micronutrient intake and the incidence of malaria infection at the Paguat Community Health Center.Method: This study used a cross-sectional study method with an analytical observational approach. The population in this study consisted of 37 people obtained from the medical records of the Paguat Community Health Center for the period January-July 2025, using total sampling techniques. The study used primary data in the form of questionnaires and 3x24-hour food recall interviews. The 3x24-hour food recall method was calculated using the Nutrisurvey application to determine the nutritional content of each food item. Data analysis was performed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate methods. Results: Bivariate analysis showed that micronutrient intake such as vitamin A (P-value = 0.680) and iron (P-value = 0.080) had no significant association with malaria infection. Meanwhile, zinc micronutrient intake (P-value = 0.030) had a significant association with malaria infection. Based on multivariate analysis, P-value of 0.025 (P 0.05) was obtained, with a confidence interval (95% CI: 0.035–0.798). Zinc micronutrient intake has a significant effect on the incidence of malaria infection. Conclusion: The analysis shows no statistically significant relationship between vitamin A and iron intake with malaria infection. Zinc intake is statistically significantly associated with malaria infection. Keywords: Anopheles sp., malaria, nutritional status, Plasmodium sp.

Abstract

Banana ( Musa paradisiaca L.) is one of the local foods that has a high carbohydrate content and has the potential to be developed as an alternative energy source. Carbohydrates act as the main source of energy for the body. However, processing processes such as steaming can affect the carbohydrate content due to changes in starch structure during gelatinization and reshaping starch structure. The formulation of the problem in this study includes what is the difference in carbohydrate content in 2 variations of steaming time, as well as the most optimal steaming time in maintaining carbohydrate content. This study aims to analyze the effect of steaming time on the total carbohydrate content of kepok bananas and assess its potential as an alternative energy source. This study also fills a research gap related to the effect of specific steaming duration on carbohydrate stability in local foods. The research uses a laboratory experiment design with a post-test only design. The sample was in the form of physiologically ripe kepok bananas steamed at a temperature of ±100°C with a time variation of 30 and 35 minutes. Carbohydrate content analysis was conducted using the Luff-Schoorl method (SNI 01-2891-1992) and tested with Mann-Whitney (?=0.05). The results showed average carbohydrate content of 36.66% (30 minutes) and 35.85% (35 minutes). The statistical test showed a value of p = 0.05 which was at the limit of significance, thus showing a tendency for difference but not statistically strong enough. It was concluded that 30-minute steaming tended to better maintain carbohydrate levels, although further research with larger samples is needed.
