Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of students' mathematical critical thinking skills and the limited learning tools with problem-based learning models to facilitate students' mathematical critical thinking skills used by teachers (Syllabus, RPP, and LAS) as a means of supporting learning in the 2013 Curriculum and fostering the ability to think mathematical critical. This research aims to produce a learning device based on the Model of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on the probability material that is valid and practical to grow students' mathematical critical thinking skills. The model of development used is the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The subjects of one-to-one evaluation in this study were three 9th-grade SMP IT Aufia Global Islamic Boarding School and six heterogeneous students as small group evaluation subjects. The data analysis technique that will be carried out in this study is descriptive analysis technique. The Instruments used include (1) Syllabus, lesson plans, and student activity sheet validation sheets; and (2) a Questionnaire for student response to Student activity sheets. The learning tools that have been compiled are then validated by three validators and revised according to suggestions from the validators. The learning device is said to be valid if the level of validity achieved is at a value The validation results from three validators show that the syllabus, lesson plans, and student activity sheet are very valid, with the average score in a row 3.82, 3.74, and 3.55. Student activity sheet practicality shows an average percentage of 92,06% with efficient criteria. The results of this study indicate that the learning based on Model Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on the probability material is very valid and significantly grows students' mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are important for students in the process of learning mathematics. Critical thinking skills in the mathematics learning process can help students better understand the material. This study aims to describe students' critical thinking skills in solving problems on the Two-Variable Linear Equation System material. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the study were 18 students of class VIII MTS Daarun Nahdhah Bangkinang. The data collection instruments used in this study were mathematical critical thinking ability test questions and interview sheets. The test to measure students' critical thinking skills consisted of 4 descriptive questions on the Two-Variable Linear Equation System material. The test results were analyzed according to the indicators of critical thinking skills used in this study: Interpretation, Analysis, Evaluation, and Inference. The results of this study stated that the average value of mathematical critical thinking skills of class VIII students of MTS Daarun Nahdhah Bangkinang was 41.99% in the reasonably critical category. The interpreting indicator is in the low category with an average of 25.78%, the analyzing indicator is in the sufficient category with an average of 54.68%, the evaluating indicator is in the sufficient category with an average of 49.21%, and the inferring indicator is in the low category with an average of 38.28%. Based on the research results above, teachers must get used to giving students non-routine questions in learning, using contextual LKPD, and providing varied learning resources to improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a product in the form of a mathematics teaching module based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to enhance students' mathematical communication skills in the context of linear equations and inequalities with one variable for Grade VII students in junior high schools (SMP/MTs). The study evaluates the teaching module's validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Additionally, the findings of this research can serve as a reference for teachers in designing teaching modules that improve communication skills in other mathematical topics and as a resource for students to practice and enhance their communication skills. This research is based on the importance of mathematical communication skills for students. According to the Ministry of National Education, one of the objectives of mathematics learning is to enable students to communicate their ideas through symbols, tables, diagrams, or other representations. However, field observations show that the reality is quite the opposite. The mathematical communication skills of Grade VII students (Phase D) in junior high schools are still relatively low, particularly in linear equations and inequalities with one variable. One of the indicators of this issue is that students do not create mathematical symbols accurately when solving problems. While they can solve problems presented in a format like the teacher's examples, they struggle with different problem formats, especially word problems, which are confusing. The data collection instruments used in this study include validation and practicality instruments. The data collection techniques involve interviews, questionnaires, and mathematical communication skill tests. The data analysis techniques employed are both quantitative and qualitative analyses. The development of the teaching module in this research follows the 4-D model (Four-D Model), which consists of four stages: defining, designing, developing, and disseminating.

Abstract

This study is based on the observation that students struggle to think mathematically creatively when studying statistical material, and that there is currently no effective learning tool to help students develop this skill. The purpose of this research is to inform the creation of a STEAM-based statistics worksheet for use with students in class X SMA/MA, to foster their capacity for mathematical creativity. This research uses the 4D model, including Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. Data collection techniques included observations and interviews. This study involved students from Class X at SMAN 2 Siak Hulu. The results indicate that LKPD is valid, based on expert review, and practical, as demonstrated by the field test. At the field trial stage, the LKPD developed meets the assessment aspects: ease of use, presentation, readability, and time. So, the STEAM-based LKPD can be used during learning to facilitate creative mathematical thinking abilities.

Abstract

This study was driven by students’ low mathematical connection ability in learning Sequences and Series, a skill essential for understanding relationships among mathematical concepts. The purpose of this research was to develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based student worksheet designed to improve students’ mathematical connection ability and to examine its validity and practicality. A development research approach was applied using the 4-D model—Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The participants were tenth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using validation instruments, practicality questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations. The validation process evaluated face, content, and construct validity. The developed worksheet demonstrated strong validity, with average scores of 89.29% for face validity, 89.29% for content validity, and 86.79% for construct validity. The overall validity score of 88.45% fell into the “very valid” category, indicating the product’s suitability for field implementation. The practicality assessment, focusing on design, clarity of material presentation, and ease of use, produced an average score of 83.27%, classified as “practical.” These findings suggest that the PBL-based worksheet is both valid and practical, offering potential as an effective instructional tool to support students in developing mathematical connection ability, particularly in topics related to Sequences and Series.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of students to understand mathematical concepts, particularly in the topic of trigonometric ratios. The CORE model was chosen because it encourages active student participation in constructing concepts through systematic stages. The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and practical CORE-based worksheet on trigonometric ratios to support students' conceptual understanding. The development process followed the 4-D model (define, design, development, disseminate). Research data consisted of qualitative input from validators and students, as well as quantitative data from questionnaire scores. Data collection was conducted through interviews and questionnaires using validation sheets and student response instruments. The sample was selected through purposive sampling: 6 students from class XE.1 (Small Group) and 30 students from class XE.3 (Field Test). A worksheet is considered valid and practical if it achieves its values. The results showed that the developed worksheet was very valid (94.31%) based on appearance, content, and construction aspects. It was also very practical, with scores of 97.36% for Small Group and 90.13% for Field Test, assessed based on presentation, ease of use, readability, and time. CORE based worksheets encourage students to actively construct concepts actively actively, thereby facilitating their ability to conceptual understand trigonometric ratios.
