Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of triangulation-based metacognitive learning strategy on students’ chemistry literacy and learning achievement. This study was conducted by using a pretest-posttest control group design. The participants of this research were two classes of 10th grade natural science students of Senior High School in Pasuruan, Indonesia. One class was taught using triangulation-based metacognitive learning strategies consisting of four steps (Preparing, Doing, Checking, and Assessing & Following-Up) abbreviated to MLS-PDCA, and another was taught using expository learning strategy (ELS). Data was collected by pretest and posttest. Based on the data analysis, it was known that the N-gain averages of students’ chemistry literacy were 54% in MLS-PDCA class as the middle category and 38% in the ELS class as middle category. N-gain averages of learning achievement were 56% in experiment class as middle category and 40% in ELS as middle category. Mann Whitney U and independent sample t-test showed that the improvement of students’ chemistry literacy and learning achievement in MLS-PDCA class was more significant than in the ELS class. Abstract

While collaborative problem-based learning (PBL), particularly in Western nations, has been researched and shown to be beneficial in enhancing students' metacognitive skills, it is still sparingly used in Asian nations like Indonesia. This study's goal was to learn more about the potential benefits of cooperative PBL on students' metacognitive skills. The systematic literature review (SLR) research design was used for this study, and the requirements were full text, journal articles, open access, accredited national and international publications between 2010 and 2020, and articles on the role of collaborative PBL in chemistry students' metacognitive development. The findings of the SLR used in this study show that PBL enhances students' metacognitive skills, particularly in chemistry students. The majority of research, however, continues to employ unreliable, nonstandard methods. Therefore, it is believed that this research may be used as supplemental data to acquire in-depth PBL findings.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of IDEAL-type metacognitive combined with STAD cooperative learning to improve students' self-efficacy and problem-solving abilities in thermochemistry. The research design used was a Quasi-Experimental Pretest-Postest Control Group Design and a 2 x 2 factorial design. The experimental class was taught with the IDEAL type metacognitive learning strategy combined with STAD cooperative learning, while the control class was taught with the STAD cooperative learning model. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis and different tests. The results showed that the IDEAL type metacognitive learning strategy combined with STAD cooperative learning was more effective in improving students' problem-solving abilities than the STAD cooperative learning model. However, it is not effective in increasing students' self-efficacy. Suppose students are taught with the IDEAL type metacognitive learning strategy combined with STAD cooperative learning and accompanied by high learning motivation. In that case, the students' self-efficacy and problem-solving abilities also increase even though the interaction between the two is weak. REFERENCESAriff, S.S., Kumar, S.V., Azizi, M.N., & Hilmi, F. 2022.
