Abstract

Childhood cancer is the second leading cause of death after accidents among children aged 0–18 years and significantly impacts children’s quality of life, both physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. The type of cancer and duration of chemotherapy treatment are known to influence various aspects of children’s quality of life, including physical, emotional, social, and school functioning. In a previous study, 107 children (97%) were classified as having poor quality of life, while only 29 children (21%) had good quality of life. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the type of cancer and the duration of treatment with quality of life in children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital in Surakarta. The research method used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample was selected using consecutive sampling among children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Data were collected using the PedsQL 4.0 cancer module questionnaire and analyzed using the bivariate Chi-Square statistical test. Results: The study results showed a significant relationship between cancer type and quality of life in children with cancer (p=0.028), as well as a significant relationship between treatment duration and quality of life in children with cancer (p=0.043). Children with solid cancers and those undergoing treatment for more than 6 months tended to have lower quality of life. Cancer type and duration of treatment significantly influence the quality of life of children with cancer. Therefore, special attention is needed in nursing approaches that consider both factors to improve the quality of life of children during chemotherapy.

Abstract

The development of computer technology and artificial intelligence (AI) has enabled machines to emulate human abilities in logical thinking, calculation, and interaction. However, from the perspective of Islamic psychology, such capabilities cannot replace the spiritual dimensions of humans qalb (heart) and nafs (soul) which are the centers of moral and spiritual consciousness. This study is a library research that analyzes AI from Islamic and ethical perspectives, aiming to describe systematically and comprehensively the relationship between technological advancement and Islamic values. Islam emphasizes that technology serves as a tool for human benefit, not a substitute for human nature; therefore, its development must be grounded in ethical principles aligned with sharia, including justice (‘adl), trust (amanah), compassion (rahmah), and respect for human dignity. By integrating the concepts of tazkiyatun nafs (purification of the soul), tawakkal (trust in God), and ikhtiar (effort), this study highlights the importance of maintaining balance between intellect and spirituality in the use of AI so that technology functions as a means of worship, enlightenment, and mercy for all creation (rahmatan lil ‘alamin).

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that has the potential to cause serious complications, one of which is peripheral circulation disorders that can lead to diabetic ulcers and even amputation. Early detection of circulatory disorders can be done through the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) examination. One of the non-pharmacological interventions that is useful in improving blood circulation in the lower extremities is diabetic foot exercises. Objective: to determine the effect of diabetic foot exercises on changes in ABI values in DM patients. Method: The study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 76 respondents with DM in the working area of the Karanganyar Community Health Center. The intervention in the form of foot exercises was given three times in two weeks, while the ABI examination was carried out using a manual sphygmomanometer according to standard procedures. Results: The results of univariate data analysis used frequency distribution, while bivariate analysis was carried out using the Paired t-test and Wilcoxon test. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05), so Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. This indicates a significant effect of diabetic foot exercises on improving ABI values in DM patients. Conclusion: Diabetic foot exercises have been shown to be effective in improving peripheral blood circulation and increasing ABI values in DM patients. This intervention can be recommended as a simple, inexpensive, and easy-to-implement non-pharmacological method to prevent foot complications, including diabetic ulcers and amputations.

Abstract

Sleep disturbance is a common problem in patients with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), often caused by disease symptoms such as dyspnea, which negatively impacts their quality of life. The 45° Semi-Fowler's position is a simple non-pharmacological nursing intervention that can improve lung expansion, reduce cardiac workload, and enhance patient comfort, thereby potentially improving sleep quality. This study aimed to determine the effect of the 45° Semi-Fowler's position on the sleep quality of CHF patients at RSUD dr. Moewardi Surakarta. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 32 CHF patients were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The intervention, applying the 45° Semi-Fowler's position, was administered for 30 minutes daily over three consecutive days. Prior to the intervention, patients were generally positioned supine or with minimal elevation. Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and data were analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed a statistically significant difference in PSQI scores before and after the intervention (p < 0.05), with the median score decreasing from 7.00 (Poor Quality) to 4.00 (Good Quality)10. This clinically significant reduction suggests a positive impact of the positioning. This study concludes that the 45° Semi-Fowler's position is effective in improving the sleep quality of CHF patients and can be recommended as a standard nursing intervention, though future studies should utilize a Randomized Controlled Trial design to control for confounding factors, such as the placebo effect

Abstract

Adolescents have a crucial role in preventing stunting. The problems that occur at the Sukoharjo Health Vocational School are (1) the students' low level of knowledge about balanced nutrition and (2) the students' low health independence in adopting a healthy lifestyle. As a result, students experience iron deficiency (anemia), short height, thin or Chronic Energy Deficiency. Female students will be at risk of giving birth to stunted babies. The aim of this activity is to implement promotive and preventive efforts for balanced nutrition to prevent stunting and chronic diseases. The PkM method is promotive in the form of education about balanced nutrition, and preventive in the form of measuring LILA. The results of the activity show that many students now bring food from home so that their nutrition is more guaranteed. In addition, students are more orderly at breakfast so they can be more focused when learning activities take place. This is evident from the increasing assessment of student achievement.
