Abstract

ABSTRACT Lack of maternal knowledge regarding breastfeeding practices is one of the significant etiologies of low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding. This can encourage mothers to provide additional food to babies before they reach 6 months of age, resulting in failure to maintain exclusive breastfeeding. Education on the management of exclusive breastfeeding is needed to overcome this issue. Educational activities were carried out so that participants understand the management of exclusive breastfeeding and can practice appropriate breastfeeding positions to support the achievement of exclusive breastfeeding for up to 6 months. Implementation of counseling and exclusive breastfeeding management practices was held at Posyandu Melati, Sawangan, Depok, for 22 pregnant women and breastfeeding. The participants had their knowledge measured before and after providing education. Results Of the 22 participants, the results of the initial assessment showed that 12 people had high knowledge, while the other 10 people had low knowledge. At the final evaluation stage, all participants had a perfect score (high knowledge). The Wilcoxon Test results indicated a significant difference between the mean pretest and posttest scores (p value 0.001, 95% CI: 1.275-3.271). Health promotion activities with the theme of management of exclusive breastfeeding have been well implemented as evidenced by a significant increase in participants' knowledge between before and after the education was provided. It is recommended to provide exclusive breastfeeding management education to similar populations so that public knowledge can increase so that it can indirectly have an impact on increasing exclusive breastfeeding coverage in the area. Keywords: Exclusive Breastfeeding, Health Education, Pregnant Women, Breastfeeding Mothers, Knowledge.

Abstract

The HPV vaccine has been proven effective in reducing cervical cancer. Currently, the free HPV vaccination program is accessible for 11-12-year-old girls, while those outside this age range must undergo self-funded vaccination at healthcare facilities. This quantitative cross-sectional study using Spearman Rank correlation aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, perception, and willingness to receive HPV vaccine among 190 girl students from a junior high school in Jakarta. Stratified random sampling was employed. The results showed that the average age of respondents was 13.97 years, with the majority in grade 9, parents with high school/equivalent education, income below the minimum wage, and had never received information about HPV. Spearman test results a p-value = 0.000 and r = 0.389 for the variable of knowledge and willingness to vaccinate indicating there is significant relationship, and a p-value = 0.036, r = 0.153 for the variable of perception and willingness indicating there is relationship between the two. There is a relationship between knowledge and willingness to receive HPV vaccine, as well as between perception and willingness, with both showing a positive correlation. It is hoped that the HPV vaccination program will be optimized among adolescent girls to achieve WHO target.

Abstract

The high frequency of cervical cancer among women is a concern in Indonesia. Cervical cancer prevention involves two approaches: primary prevention through Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and secondary prevention through early detection. Women's knowledge is important because the better knowledge about early detection will influence women to do early detection. This study aimed to examine the correlation between knowledge of early detection and women's awareness of cervical cancer screening in Lubang Buaya. This study employed quantitative research methodologies using a cross-sectional design. The sampling method was purposive sampling which recruited a total of 234 married women aged 30-50 years residing in Lubang Buaya. The instruments used in this study were Knowledge about Cervical Cancer Screening Questionnaire and Cervical Cancer Awareness Measure (CAM) Questionnaire. The Chi-square test was performed to analyze the data. The results revealed a significant correlation between the two variables, as indicated by a p-value of less than 0.001 (p < 0.05). A correlation exists between knowledge of early detection and women's awareness of cervical cancer screening.

Abstract

Despite the availability of cervical cancer prevention programs through Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Indonesia, the overall immunization coverage remains limited. One of the main contributing factors is the low intention among the community to receive the HPV vaccine. Low intention may lead to limited vaccination uptake. This study aims to compare differences in intention to get HPV vaccination among three groups of female decision makers, namely, adult women who take their own vaccine decisions, adolescent girls who rely on their parents to decide on vaccination, and parents who help make decisions regarding HPV vaccination for their daughters. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Each group of decision makers consisted of 147 people, with a total of 441 respondents. The data collected were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test. The statistical analysis confirmed significant differences in intention among the three groups (p<0.001). The highest mean intention rank was in the adult women group (mean-rank=273.55), followed by parents (mean-rank=214.37), and the lowest in adolescent girls (mean-rank=175.09). Women's intention to receive the HPV vaccine is influenced by their level of independence in decision-making. Adult women with full decision-making autonomy demonstrated the highest intention. These findings highlight the need for tailored approaches in promoting HPV vaccination based on decision-making roles to improve vaccination uptake.

Abstract

Background: An athlete's peak performance is not only determined by routine training intensity but is also significantly influenced by a multifactorial set of supporting determinants, including nutritional intake, knowledge, and overall physical condition. Objectives: This study aims to examine the association between physical fitness, protein consumption, nutritional knowledge, and nutritional status with the athletic achievement levels of athletes. Methods: This research employed a quantitative observational analytic method with a cross-sectional design. The population included football, blind chess, and taekwondo athletes selected through a total sampling technique, resulting in 143 respondents. Data were collected via questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and the bleep test. Normality testing indicated that the data were not normally distributed (p-value<0.05); therefore, the Chi-Square test was employed for bivariate analysis. Results: The majority of respondents were male (85.3%) and regional-level athletes (67.8%). Results showed that 61.0% of athletes possessed good physical fitness, although 60.8% had protein consumption levels below the recommended daily requirement. Approximately 53.1% of respondents had good nutritional knowledge, and 77.2% had a normal nutritional status. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between athletic achievement and physical fitness (p-value=0.013), protein consumption (p-value<0.001), and nutritional knowledge (p-value=0.008). However, nutritional status showed no significant relationship with athletic achievement (p-value=0.055). Conclusions: Physical fitness, protein consumption, and nutritional knowledge are key determinants significantly associated with athletic achievement. Success is highly dependent on nutritional support, literacy, and optimal physical conditioning.

Abstract

Cervical cancer remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia including women in urban areas. Despite the availability of screening services in cities like Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Depok, uptake remains low. Understanding how women perceive the benefits and barriers to cervical cancer screening is essential to improving participation rates. This study aimed to examine the perception of benefits and barriers related to cervical cancer screening among married women living in urban areas of Indonesia. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 748 married women aged 21–65 years in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, and Depok. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics to summarize key variables, including educational level and employment status, income level, and perceptions of screening. The majority of participants had a low education level (78.6%), unemployed (77.7%), and social economy status below the regional minimum wage (86.1%). A total of 57% of respondents reported low perceived benefits of cervical cancer screening, and 48.5% perceived high barriers. Despite residing in urban areas with better access to healthcare, many women continue to hold limited poor perceptions about benefits of cervical cancer screening. These findings underscore the need for targeted health education, culturally sensitive interventions, and improved accessibility to increase screening uptake in Indonesia’s urban communities.
