Abstract

Computer assisted language learning (CALL) is one of the alternative ways used by teachers in teaching English. This research aims to find out various CALL applications used by the pre-service English teachers, the difficult skills faced by students, hindrances, and pre-service teachers’ reflection. A mixed-method approach with questionnaires, interviews guideline, and observation checklist were employed by the researchers. The sample consisted of 30 pre-service English teachers and 750 students. The data analyses were done by using simple statistics calculations, codes, and categories. The results showed that pre-service English teachers applied various CALL applications, in which the majority of them used Hello English for speaking in the classroom because of the ease of use of the application. The most difficult skills learned by students were listening, and the easiest skill was reading. Another finding is related to hindrances during CALL applications which included internet connection, material understanding, CALL application procedures, assessment, discipline, cost, and learning style. However, those problems were eventually solved by pre-service English teachers. Furthermore, pre-service teachers wrote their teaching reflection to know their evaluation of their teaching. The reflections showed that they could solve the problems, made, and revised lesson plans, and brought good role models in the classroom.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out realities that showed on discourse of car advertisements in television based on the criticaldiscourse analysis theory by Guy Cook and to know the purposes that are showed in car advertisements on television.This research used the Critical Discourse Analysis based on Guy Cook’s theory. It is a descriptive qualitative research in conductingthe research. The data of this research are 21 car advertisements that are in four commercial televisions, such as metro TV, Trans 7, MNC TV, andRCTI. The data are taken from spoken text, written text, and also expression of the advertisement models. The researcher also uses respondents toanswer the questionnaire. This questionnaire is used to answer second problem statement that is the purposes that are showed in car advertisementsin television.Based on the analysis, eight elements of Guy Cook’s theory in Critical Discourse Analysis are substance, music and pictures,paralanguage, situation, co-text, intertext, participant, and function. It can be concluded that 100% of 21 car advertisements contains substance,music and pictures, paralanguage, situation, participant, and function. From 21 car advertisement, there are two car advertisements that contain cotext.So the percentage is 9, 52%. Then, only Daihatsu (Man. City vs Daihatsu Team version) that didn’t contained in intertext. So, the percentageof the car advertisements that contain intertext is 90, 47%.Based on the questionnaires which were distributed to the 15 people in all segments, the purposes of car advertisements are to influencethe people to choose the product based on its strengths. Because of advertisement, the power of interest also appears by the costumer to buy thisproduct.Based on the findings, it is suggested that the teacher have to conduct some research about Critical Discourse Analysis in other subjects.For the student, it is expected they can explore Critical Discourse Analysis in other theories, such as theory from Roger Fowler and friends,Theo Van Leeuwenn, Sara Mills, Van Dijk, and Norman Fairclough. For other researchers, it suggested to conduct a research in other subject ofadvertisement and other theories of Critical Discourse Analysis. Besides, it is also suggested to the other researcher to analyze the data which aretaken from the different data sources, such as advertisements and articles in magazines, newspaper, and others.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to classify types of quality maxim, 2) to describe the types of quality maxim violation in the dialogue between students and lecturers in the process of thesis guidance.This research belongs to qualitative research. The data were all dialogues between lecturers and students having quality maxim (either violating or obeying), while the data source was the lecturers and students in the process of thesis guidance itself. This research used two kinds of data collection method, they were documentation and content analysis. The instruments were tape recorder and data cards, while the methods of data analysis were reduction, display and verification.After having analysis, it could be seen that the results of this research were type of qualitymaxim: obeying maxim and violating maxim. The violations were in the field of content(material), methodology and writing system.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to describe High Order Thinking Skills-oriented Indonesian language learning strategies in learning at school. The research method used is qualitative. The approach in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data used is in the form of various learning strategies in the independent curriculum related to the implementation of Indonesian language learning activities in schools. Data sources were obtained through scientific articles and journals which theoretically have been proven to be relevant regarding the relevance of using HOTS (High Order Thinking Skill) oriented Indonesian language learning strategies. Data collection techniques use library research. Data analysis techniques use reading, listening and taking notes. Data validity techniques through theoretical triangulation. The research results show that (1) Indonesian language learning strategies are oriented towards high level thinking including project based learning, problem based learning, discovery learning, and inquiry. (2) learning Indonesian using the project based learning model will make students active, creative and innovative in producing learning products. (3) The use of the problem based learning model in Indonesian language learning makes students trained to formulate and solve problems carefully so that independent activities and constructive thinking can be mastered by students. The use of discovery learning and inquiry models makes students more skilled in critical thinking to find new ideas and understanding in learning Indonesian. The criteria for learning strategies oriented at a high level of thinking are based on the 4Cs as characteristics of 21st century learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the stylistic style of Sarcasm in Indonesian memes on Instagram. This study takes a formal object, namely stylistics, and a material object in the form of Indonesian memes on Instagram. The two objects were appointed as research material because they were motivated by meme problems and at least stylistic research in linguistics. The purpose of this study was to determine the analysis of memes through stylistic studies. The method used in this research is descriptive research in the form of qualitative. The data used is in the form of memes taken on Instagram with the condition that the meme uses language styles and language symptoms (majas). The results of this research data analysis are: (1) memes use language as a medium, including written language and images that are mutually supportive for the emotional formation of readers. (2) memes have language style and language symptoms. (3) memes use more than one figure of speech. With the existence of memes in the digital world, such as creating memes in this satirical review, the creative platform for reviews becomes open and diverse. Memes can be humorous as well as thought-provoking material about what's going on. So the meme became a new reaction to the events of the nation, especially in political and social life. Memes clarify attitudes of criticism and irony, but can also create irony and criticism in humour.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kurikulum Merdeka adalah kurikulum yang sekarang digunakan di Indonesia, meskipun tidak semua lembaga pendidikan formal menggunakannya. Beberapa sekolah terus menggunakan K13 sementara secara bertahap beralih ke kurikulum Merdeka. Berdasarkan hal ini, Kemendikbud mendirikan Gerakan Literasi Sekolah GLS untuk mendukung literasi siswa dan mempromosikan pengembangan budaya literasi di lingkungan pendidikan. Secara umum, SAVI adalah pendekatan belajar yang, menurut Meier, mengintegrasikan gerakan motorik (fisik) dengan aktivitas otak dan menggunakan semua indera yang dimiliki siswa untuk membantu memecahkan masalah yang sudah ada melalui pemikiran asli. Pengamatan, demonstrasi, praktek yang berdekatan, dan evaluasi adalah metode yang digunakan. Siswa di kelas keempat dapat mendapatkan banyak keuntungan dari YouTube dalam hal meningkatkan keterampilan literasi dasar mereka. Pemahaman siswa tentang berbagai genre teks, keterampilan membaca dan menulis, ekspansi kosa kata, motivasi dan minat belajar, dan keterampilan berpikir kritis dapat ditingkatkan dengan menggunakan YouTube sebagai alat pengajaran. Tentu saja, pengawasan hati-hati dan pemilihan konten diperlukan saat menggunakan YouTube. YouTube dapat menarik siswa lebih sukses daripada platform belajar lainnya. Siswa mungkin menjadi lebih terlibat dan tertarik pada informasi yang disampaikan dengan menonton film animasi dan cerita menarik di YouTube. Kata Kunci: Bahasa Inggris, SAVI, YouTube Abstract:The Merdeka Curriculum is now being used in Indonesian education, although not all formal educational institutions are utilizing it. Some schools continue to use K13 while gradually switching to the Merdeka curriculum. Based on this, Kemendikbud founded the Literacy Movement of GLS Schools to support students' literacy and foster the development of a literacy culture in the educational setting. In general, SAVI is a learning approach that, according to Meier, integrates motor (physical) movement with cerebral activity and makes use of all the senses that students have in order to help solve problems that already exist through original thought. Observation, demonstration, adjacent practice, and evaluation are the methods employed. Students in the fourth grade can gain a lot from YouTube in terms of improving their foundational literacy abilities. Students' comprehension of various text genres, reading and writing proficiency, vocabulary expansion, learning motivation and interest, and critical thinking skills can all be improved by using YouTube as a teaching tool. Of course, careful supervision and content selection are required when using YouTube. YouTube can draw learners more successfully than other learning platforms. Students might become more engaged and interested in the information being delivered by watching animated films and compelling stories on YouTube. Keywords: English, SAVI, YouTube

Abstract

Publikasi menjadi salah satu hal penting bagi seseorang atau lembaga untuk dapat dikenal oleh khalayak umum. Tidak terkecuali dengan keadaan sekolah. Untuk dapat menarik minat calon siswa maka wajib bagi suatu sekolah melakukan publikasi terhadap berbagai keunggulan sekolah. SMK Veteran Sukoharjo merupakan sekolah yang memiliki berbagai keunggulan. Akan tetapi, masih banyak masyarakat yang belum mengetahui. Oleh karena itu, tim pengabdian melakukan kegiatan pelatihan tentang menulis rilis berita pada guru dan siswa SMK Veteran. Tujuannya adalah guru dan siswa mampu menulis berita dengan menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia yang baik, benar, dan menarik, sehingga dapat melakukan publikasi terhadap berbagai kegiatan yang ada di sekolah. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian adalah pelatihan yang diawali dengan kegiatan penyuluhan, demonstrasi, pendampingan, dan evaluasi. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan secara teori dan praktik. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian adalah terjadinya peningkatan pemahaman para guru dan siswa terhadap pengetahuan dan cara menulis rilis berita untuk publikasi. Selain itu, para guru dan siswa melalui kegiatan pendampingan telah mampu menulis rilis berita dengan menggunakan Bahasa Indonesia. Dengan demikian, kegiatan pengabdian ini telah mampu meningkatkan kemampuan menulis para guru dan siswa SMK Veteran Sukoharjo. Publication is one of the important things for a person or institution to be recognized by the general public. Schools are no exception. To be able to attract prospective students, it is mandatory for a school to publish various school advantages. SMK Veteran Sukoharjo is a school that has various advantages. However, there are still many people who do not know. Therefore, the service team conducted training activities on writing news releases for teachers and students of SMK Veteran. The goal is that teachers and students are able to write news using good, correct, and interesting Indonesian, so that they can publish various activities at school. The method used in the service activity is training which begins with counseling, demonstration, mentoring, and evaluation activities. Training activities are carried out in theory and practice. The results of the service activities are an increase in the understanding of teachers and students on knowledge and how to write news releases for publication. In addition, teachers and students through mentoring activities have been able to write news releases using Indonesian. Thus, this service activity has been able to improve the writing skills of teachers and students of SMK Veteran Sukoharjo.

Abstract

Muatan kearifan lokal merupakan aspek penting dalam redaksi branding untuk menciptakan narasi yang autentik dan memikat, serta dapat menghubungkan pengunjung dengan sejarah dan nilai-nilai budaya yang diwariskan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji kekhasan muatan kearifan lokal dalam redaksi branding Kampung Batik Laweyan sebagai upaya memperkuat identitas budaya dan meningkatkan daya tarik destinasi wisata berbasis budaya. Penelitian kualitatif deskripsif dengan pendekatan stilistika. Sumber data berupa promosi dan komunikasi dari beberapa branding Kampung Batik Laweyan. Data berupa materi atau teks promosi dan teks komunikasi branding Kampung Batik Laweyan. Content analysis, wawancara, dan observasi digunakan dalam pengumpulan data ini. Analisis data menggunakan analisis stilistika yang dimulai dari identifikasi elemen bahasa, analisis kontekstual, dan interpretasi makna. Hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa kekhasan kearifan lokal dalam redaksi branding berperan penting dalam membangun citra yang kuat dan otentik dari Kampung Batik Laweyan. Redaksi yang mengangkat diksi-diksi dari unsur seperti sejarah, mitos, simbolisme motif batik, dan praktik sosial-budaya setempat mampu menciptakan diferensiasi yang signifikan di tengah persaingan global.

Abstract

Literasi digital untuk siswa sekolah dasar memainkan peran penting dalam metode pembangunan karakter siswa sekolah dasar. Demikian juga, peran pendidikan karakter sangat dibutuhkan oleh pemerintah sebagai dasar pendidikan di negara ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi identitas penokohan Punakawan dalam nilai-nilai kearifan lokal dalam bacaan siswa sekolah dasar di Kabupaten Sukoharjo. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis isi. Sumber informasi berasal dari buku bacaan digital untuk siswa sekolah dasar yang berjudul Wayangku Budayaku. Buku bacaan digital ini disusun oleh kementerian pendidikan dan kebudayaan. Terdapat empat pilihan unit area pada buku bacaan digital ini, yaitu unit area yang berkaitan dengan; pengertian, tokoh wayang, alat musik, dan kuis. Buku digital ini membahas tentang tokoh-tokoh pewayangan, khususnya Pandawa dan Punakawan. Peneliti memilih Punakawan agar siswa sekolah dasar dapat memahami karakter-karakter dalam wayang Punakawan secara lebih detail. Dari buku bacaan digital ini, informasi yang terkait dengan pengetahuan asli dapat diambil. Dengan adanya buku bacaan digital ini, diharapkan siswa sekolah dasar dapat mulai menyukai budaya daerah yang sudah diperkenalkan sejak awal saat mereka duduk di bangku sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan media audiovisual big book bermuatan pendidikan karakter untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak siswa Taman Kanak-kanak. Metode penelitian menggunakan model R&D Borg and Gall yang dimodifikasi, dengan fokus pada integrasi pendidikan karakter dalam media. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan observasi dari 3 validator ahli, guru, dan siswa. Validasi media dilakukan oleh ahli media, materi, dan bahasa. Efektivitas media diukur dengan uji-t sampel independen dalam desain eksperimen dua kelompok. Analisis data menggunakan metode kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media audiovisual big book layak dan efektif meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak siswa. Media ini juga dinilai dibutuhkan oleh guru dan siswa, menciptakan pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan bermakna. Pengembangan media ini diharapkan menjadi inovasi pembelajaran menyimak di Taman Kanak-kanak, memperkuat pendidikan karakter siswa.
