Abstract

One of the issues that students face today is a lack of politeness in their language. Students' politeness is reflected in their attitudes when sending messages to lecturers. The objective of this study was to determine how polite students are when communicating with their lecturers through WhatsApp.  This study was conducted at a private university in Sukoharjo. The data was obtained from student texts in the lecturer's WhatsApp app. The data was analyzed using Brown and Levinson's (1987) FTA theory on politeness strategies. According to the findings of the study, some students were found sending messages without greeting the lecturers and instead conveying their intentions directly. FTAs are common, and students frequently threaten the lecturers' faces. The words used in a student's message can have an effect on the teacher's feelings and make the conversation appear informal. Students appear to be unaware of social distance, roles and status, and power dynamics when interacting with lecturers. Some students treat lecturers as equals, which comes across as rude and disrespectful. It is strongly suggested that this topic be expanded upon and discussed in a broader context and area for future research. More research could look at this issue from a different perspective.

Abstract

In teaching Indonesian language, the unification between language and culture is a really interesting source of study. The objectives of this study is to explore the identity of Gatotkaca character values of local wisdom found in the elementary school students’ reading book in several elementary schools in Sukoharjo Regency. This study was designed with a qualitative descriptive research model with content analysis technique. The data and data sources were taken from an elementary school student's reading book Gatotkaca Satria from Pringgodani. The results revealed that the local wisdom indicators primarily found in the reading book of Gatotkaca Satria Pringgodani including values of patriotism and other values such as discipline, hard work, creativity, sovereignty, democracy, respect for achievement, companionship, peace-loving, love of reading, and care to environment, social security, and responsibility. Gatotkaca principally showed the attitudes that can motivate students to develop patriotic sense.

Abstract

This study seeks to examine Javanese traditional ethics and teachings, especially through an intertextual reading of Javanese Pupuh Pangkur chant text in Serat Wulang Reh. This study sought to learn more about the positive values that shape Javanese noble morals, as well as their representation and implementation in modern Javanese society, and their relationship to the idea of maintaining arts and culture in accordance with Javanese philosophy. The script writer Pupuh Pangkur wishes to remind the audience to be humble rather than arrogant. A person who exaggerates his strength or brags about his good deeds is considered arrogant, and such behavior is prohibited. An arrogant person also enjoys pointing out the flaws and shortcomings of others in public. People who exhibit these characteristics are despicable and should be avoided. People with bad personalities frequently commit acts such as taking away other people's rights, stealing, cheating, or corruption. Their primary goal in life is to make money and accumulate wealth. These people are influenced by worldly desires to pursue personal pleasures such as wasting money, drinking, having affairs with women, and so on.

Abstract

This article critically examines the news of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the press. This article tries to examine how the COVID-19 news is used for political and ideological purposes. To achieve this goal, an analysis was carried out on the Kompas.com Online Media newspaper on 11 June 2020 and 05 September 2020. The Van Dijk news scheme framework is used to analyze reports selected from selected topics of Covid 19. Van Dijk's news scheme is very important to analyze every news (report) whether the news is taken from news channels or newspapers and whether broadcast or printed. Based on data analysis, the article found that COVID-19 news had been politicized and used for ideological purposes. The article recommends that a pandemic should not be politicized by either the media or any party, but we must work together so that the government and media personnel are able to work effectively and deal with this long-running pandemic.

Abstract

The use of learning media is one of the main achievements to teaching process in the age of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0). Through media, students can understand more easily what a teacher explains in the course of learning, both in class and elsewhere. In teaching English reading to students of Elementary School Jombor 1 of Sukoharjo, at the end of each learning process, each teacher of 13 respondents was given a time to conduct a study assessment to assess the degree to which students' skills are based on the responses of teachers regarding what is demonstrated in a number of ways, including by presenting questionnaires, group presentations, written assessments by using Kahoot App. The English quizzes provided by Kahoot App can increase students' desire to learn, and learning innovations and students' participation in the reading learning process. The success of this newly used of method need to integrate teachers and students’ active participation in creating an effective learning technology environment.

Abstract

During this pandemic, all sectors have collapsed, even the education sector, which is accustomed to face-to-face classes, has become mandatory for offline or online classes, so English teachers are also required to be more creative in developing learning media. Although English is a compulsory subject, the results attained from English subject are not very satisfying. Learning activities is one of the stages that determines the success of student learning. The quality of education and teaching can be enhanced by optimizing several elements such as students, teachers, learning indicators, lesson content, methods, media, and evaluation. Because of the importance of reading material for students, the Bangun Nusantara Sukoharjo Veteran University service team offers Kahoot application training for class X SMA Veteran 01 Sukoharjo. The method utilizsd in this method is a quiz that is taught to class X students according to the lesson plans and syllabus of class X students, as well as the reading material given. The target to be achieved from this service is to increase knowledge and instruction about reading training using Kahoot media for class X SMA Veteran 01 Sukoharjo. In addition, this dedication is expected to be able to achieve several things, nemely: (1) the teacher knows more about the ability of each student in reading comprehension; (2) teachers can think logically and systematically by utilizing existing media in answering quizzes through reading training; (3) students are assisted in learning to think from a point of view in thinking practice; (4) teachers can further develop students' motivation to learn; and (5) students are actively involved in class planning and management.

Abstract

Abstrak. Tujuan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan khalayak sasaran tentang pengolahan jerami dengan limbah jamu secara praktis. Dengan kegiatan ini kelompok tani dihimbau dapat memanfaatkan limbah jerami yang melimpah dan kurang di daya gunakan sehingga dapat memenuhi kebutuhan pupuk organik dan kebutuhan unsur hara tanaman terpenuhi. Pengabdian pada masyarakat dilaksanakan mulai bulan Juli sampai Oktober 2011 di Kelurahan Gedong, Kecamatan / Kabupaten Karanganyar. Bentuk kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat yaitu memberi penyuluhan  (ceramah dan tanya jawab ) dan demonstrasi pembuatan pupuk jerami dengan limbah jamu. Sasaran kegiatan adalah kelompok tani padi  sawah di Kelurahan Gedong, Kecamatan / Kabupaten Karanganyar. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang telah dilakukan menyebabkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peserta tentang pembuatan pupuk organik dari jerami dengan limbah jamu sebesar 1,61 % dan peningkatan ketrampilan tentang pembuatan pupuk organik jerami dengan limbah jamu sebesar 3,80 %. Presentasi pemahaman materi meningkat menjadi 156, 57 %. Para peserta merasa puas karena dengan teknologi maju yaitu pengomposan dengan menggunakan limbah jamu menyebabkan jerami dapat difermentasi (terurai) lebih cepat dan praktis, sehingga pupuk organik dari jerami dapat segera dimanfaatkan pada periode tanam berikutnya.

Abstract

Dalam penelitian ini kita belajar bahasa Inggris karena bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa Internasional. Pemerintah Indonesia sendiri mengeluarkan kebijakan bahwa bahasa Inggris wajib kita pelajari dan diajarkan di sekolah. Meskipun bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran wajib namun hasil yang didapat dari pelajaran bahasa Inggris belum begitu memuaskan. Kegiatan pembelajaran adalah salah satu tahap yang sangat menentukan keberhasilan belajar siswa. Upaya untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan dan pengajaran dapat dilakukan terhadap berbagai ko mponen seperti: siswa, guru, indikator pembelajaran, isi pelajaran, metode, media, dan evaluasi. Penelitian ini berfokus pada pengajaran vocabulary dengan meggunakan Clash of Clans Games. Dengan adanya aplikasi baru dalam pengajaran diharapkan siswa tertarik menambah kosakatanya dalam bahasa Inggris. Yakni dengan menggunakan Clash of Clans Games. Abstract

Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu mata pelajaran yang diajarkan di sekolah dasar (SD). Pengajaran bahasa Inggris ditingkat SD juga harus memperhatikan speaking karena salah satu unsurbahasa yang sangat penting adalah kosa kata (speaking). Penguasaan kosakata yang memadahi sangat diperlukan untuk keberhasilan penggunaan Bahasa (L2) karena tanpa penguasaan speaking yang memadahi kita tidak akan dapat menggunakan struktur dan fungsi-fungsi untuk berkomunikasi. Teknik yang tepat untuk menciptakan pengajaran bahasa Inggris yang efektif yaitu dengan menekankan perolehan speaking yang diperlukan untuk membantu siswa belajar tanpa ada rasa takut.Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini dengan memakai media mini drama yang menarik perhatian siswa Kelas 5 SDN Jombor 1 Sukoharjo. Dimana kegiatan umum pelatihan ini diawali dengan penyuluhan untuk mengenalkan media yang dipakai dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, terutama media yang menggunakan cerita yang menarik berwujud short dialog, mendengarkan rekaman short story mini drama secara daring dengan memberikan contoh cara mempergunakan mini drama untuk menambah kosakata baru bahasa Inggris, dilanjutkan dengan pendampingan mini drama dalam bahasa Inggris sampai dinilai siswa cukup mampu belajar secara mandiri, terakhir dengan melakukan evaluasi untuk mengetahui sejauh mana pengetahuan para siswa tentang materi speaking  yang telah dipahami siswa.Target yang ingin dicapai dari pengabdian ini adalah meningkatknya pengetahuan tentang penguasaan speaking bagi siswa Kelas 5 SDN Jombor 1 Sukoharjo.   Luaran yang dicapai dari pengabdian ini adalah kemampuan berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris terkait dengan speaking. Penambahan kosakata baru dalam penguasaan speaking dalam Bahasa Inggris untuk dapat mengoptimalisasikan dan memaksimalkan aplikasi mini drama dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar sebagai bahasa rutin sehari-hari.

Abstract

The aim of this research is; (1) to know the ability of the students’ reading skills, and also to give and increase the students’ understanding in the reading text. ; 2) to know the difference of the students’ reading ability by repeating the reading text after their lecturer reads; 3) to know how far is the students non English to understand the English text by giving attention to the vocabulary of the texts to get the clear understanding. This research used descriptive qualitative researchthis research has done to get the clear information between one and the other, so the information from the source did not miss and change. Based on the data that has been collected through observation, interview, and documentation. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that: (1) it has an improvement in students’ understanding the reading text; (2) there was also an interference from the team in teaching learning activies; 3) the non English students got a lot of vocabularies after doing this research.
