Abstract

Low poetry comprehension and limited emotional engagement among elementary students remain persistent challenges in Indonesian language instruction. This classroom action research aimed to improve students' poetry comprehension and social-emotional skills through the integration of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) elements within the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The study was conducted in two cycles involving 24 fourth-grade students at SDN Pengkol 01, Sukoharjo. The research applied the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model, which includes the stages of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data were collected through observation sheets and written tests and analyzed using percentage techniques for completeness criteria. The results from the pre-cycle showed that only 8 students (37.88%) achieved the minimum score of 70. In cycle I, the average score increased to 70.16 with 13 students (59.02%) achieving completeness. However, the criteria for classical completeness (70%) had not yet been fulfilled. In cycle II, after improvements in learning strategies and the reinforcement of SEL components—such as self-awareness, social awareness, and relationship skills—students' performance significantly improved. The class average reached 95.75 with 22 students (94%) achieving completeness. The study concludes that integrating SEL into PBL in poetry learning not only enhances cognitive outcomes but also fosters students' emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. This approach contributes to more meaningful and holistic learning in the Indonesian language curriculum. The success indicators being met in both cognitive and affective domains confirm the effectiveness of this integrated model for primary school poetry instruction.

Abstract

The lack of effective local culture-based learning media is a challenge in instilling the value of independence in character education in elementary schools. This study aims to (1) describe the character value of independence in the Collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil and (2) describe the strengthening of the character value of independence as part of the teaching material for Indonesian language content in elementary schools. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with literary sociology approach and dialectical technique. The main data in the form of expressions that reflect the value of independence are taken purposively from five stories in the Collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil by M.B. Rahimsyah A.R. published by Lingkar Media in 2013. Secondary data were obtained from academic literature related to character, literary sociology, and children's literature. Data collection was conducted through literature study, analytical reading, and note-taking, with Miles & Huberman model analysis and validation through triangulation of methods and sources. The results showed that the Collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil contains four aspects of independence: emotional, economic, intellectual, and social. These values can be strengthened in Indonesian language learning through interactive strategies, such as group discussion, dramatization, story rewriting, as well as written reflection and case study. This study concludes that the collection of Fairy Tales of Si Kancil contains values of independence including emotional, economic, intellectual, and social aspects, which are relevant for strengthening students' character and can be effectively integrated in Indonesian language learning through interactive strategies in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study analyzes media framing in political reporting by CNN Indonesia from January to July 2024, focusing on how the media frames political events related to the government's position. Media framing plays a role in shaping public opinion, but studies on framing patterns in Indonesia's mainstream media are still limited. This study aims to identify CNN Indonesia's framing patterns on political issues and how the media builds narratives that strengthen or challenge the government's legitimacy. Using Entman's (1993) and Pan & Kosicki's (1993) framing analysis with a qualitative approach, this study found that CNN Indonesia tends to support the government on issues of democratic stability, while on controversial issues such as the change in the age limit for regional head candidates, the framing emphasizes public reaction and policy criticism. The conclusion of this study shows that media framing influences public opinion, both in strengthening the government's position and highlighting dissatisfaction with controversial policies, making it important to critically analyze political media coverage in Indonesia.
