Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of video analysis tracker-based practicum on the material of the motion of objects on an inclined plane and the motion of objects in free fall. The use of video tracker analysis-based practicum is useful for determining some kinematics parameters of objects that cannot only be calculated by traditional practicum methods. By using the video tracker analysis method, all object kinematics parameters can be found directly in visual form. The results show that (1) There is no relationship between mass and kinematics parameters. (2) There is an influence due to air friction on the acceleration value of the object. (3) The suitability of the concept with the tracker application produced with the error value in the experiment of object motion on an inclined plane () (4) The suitability of the concept with the tracker application produced with the error value in the experiment of object motion in free fall ()  (5) The graphical representation of the tracker is in accordance with the theory studied. This research implies that the existence of learning using practicum, especially practicum-based video tracker analysis can improve understanding and process skills in understanding science concepts. This research is written so that the programme can be further applied to science education.

Abstract

Learning that is carried out using the experimental practicum method gives students the ability to think critically, actively and collaboratively in solving a problem in science material, especially environmental pollution material. This study aims to provide an alternative way for educators to convey material related to environmental pollution, especially water and air pollution. The method used is the development of practicum learning methods on the material of water pollution and air pollution which is carried out in class 7th grade students at junior high school. The results of the water pollution practicum research stated that the average fish operculum movement experienced the highest decrease in Jar 3, from 95 to 69. The results of observations on the average movement of fish that experience slow changes and die the most are in Jar 2 with an average of 60% of fish moving slowly and 80% of fish dying in the second minute. The higher the dose of detergent, the less movement of the fish operculum and the slower the movement of fish and the death. In air pollution, the highest percentage decline in normal cricket activity was in Jar 2, from 50% in the 3rd minute to 30% in the 6th minute. The longer the crickets were exposed to the smoke of the mosquito coils, the lower the displacement of the places carried out by the crickets and the higher the activity move the antenna.

Abstract

To succeed in today's era, a person must possess 21st-century skills, which include communication and collaboration. With a Simple Hydraulic Pump project, this study aims to enhance students' communication and collaboration skills through STEM learning at the junior high school level. This quantitative study applied a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group research design. The participants are 38 out of 228 8th-grade students in two junior high schools in Bandung, Indonesia. Statistical analyses using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests were done on the data obtained through pretests and posttests. The results indicate a non-significant gain in communication skills of students in the experimental group compared to the control group, with a significance value of 0.67 (sig. >0.05), meaning that there is a non-significant difference between pretest and posttest results. Meanwhile, the collaboration skills of students in the experimental group increased significantly compared to the control group, with a significance value of 0.03 (sig. <0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. Using Cohen’s d, it is evident that students’ collaboration skills experience a medium increase (r=0.22). Furthermore, students’ communication and collaboration skills were measured using the Performance Assessment Rubric. The results demonstrate that STEM learning using a simple hydraulic pump project can enhance students’ collaboration skills but not their communication skills. This implies that while STEM learning helps students improve their collaboration skills, other methods are needed to assist them in developing their communication skills.
