Abstract

As requested by science education curricula, students are challenged to analyze light properties through optical instruments. However, the light is an electromagnetic wave, and it is very short and not easy to be measured using conventional instruments like a vernier caliper. The research aims to measure light wavelength by analyzing the light diffraction phenomenon for classroom purposes. The method applied Huygens's diffraction principle. The parameters used for the independent variable are the types of lasers and the gap between the laser and screens. Next, the dependent variables are the diffraction angle, wavelength (?), and the gap between diffraction spots. We used diffraction slits (2,500 and 7,500 lines per inch) as control variables. Three laser beams passing through the various slits can be seen and further evaluated to estimate the wavelength. The result shows that the lasers with different wavelengths (665.45, 544.35, 416.20 nm) have been demonstrated successfully with percent errors of 2.32-2.76% and percent differences of 2.29-2.73%. We have concluded that this low-cost experiment can be implemented in school.

Abstract

This study examines the potential outcomes of uniting the resources of Muslim countries. Despite the challenges in obtaining accurate data, various representative approaches are proposed. Among the institutions that collect such data is the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), which is under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The analysis focuses on the sufficiency of energy, food, and industrial raw materials in Muslim nations. However, it emphasizes the need for adjustments to improve economic interdependence among these countries, reducing their reliance on developed nations that once colonized them. Furthermore, the study acknowledges the ongoing work required to tap into intangible resources effectively. The findings underscore the anticipated benefits and ease that can be achieved through collaborative efforts among Muslim countries, paving the way for improved resource utilization and collective advancement.

Abstract

The study intends to investigate the relationship between wavelength and frequency to calculate the speed of propagating waves on the water's surface. The researchers used a ripple tank to collect data by recording the pendulum's movement as well as the image of the ripples on the water's surface. The data is then analyzed with the Tracker application. The wavelength is determined by analyzing the recorded ripple shadows with the Tracker application. The Tracker application is used to analyze the recorded pendulum movement to obtain data on the period of vibration and calculate the frequency of the vibrations. The average surface wave velocity at a pendulum length of 10 cm is 3.38 10-2 m/s. In addition, for a 30 cm pendulum length, an average surface wave speed of 3.26 10-2 m/s is obtained.

Abstract

The lack of digital media to support middle school chemistry learning needs further expanded. Hence, an Android application as a learning media on acid, base, and salt topics was needed. This study aims to develop FunLABS (Fun Learning Acid, Base, and Salt) android-based applications. This study used a DDD-E model of development as a research method, and it consists of deciding stage, designing stage, developing stage, and evaluating stage. The deciding stage begins with analyzing the content and the software developed. The design stage consists of drawing a flowchart and the storyboard. Then, in the developing stage, the application was developed based on the previous stage. The last is the evaluation stage, which involves three expert judges, three science teachers, and forty students chosen to review the application by convenience sampling. The results from the expert's judgment show an average score of 3.54. The results from teachers show an average score of 3.49. The results from students show an average score of 3.51. The profile of students' motivation score after operating the FunLABS Application is 77.87% which is described as good motivation. Hence, the results from the experts, science teachers, and students showed positive feedback, and the application was completely revised. The FunLABS Android application can be used in the learning activity to explore students' motivation on acid, base, and salt topics.

Abstract

Teaching heat and temperature is a fundamental aspect of science and physics education. This systematic review investigates the strategies and best practices employed in science education and physics education to effectively teach heat and temperature concepts. A comprehensive search was conducted in reputable databases, resulting in the identification of relevant publications published between 2018 and 2023. Content analysis techniques were applied to analyze the selected publications, focusing on the techniques, outcomes, and conclusions presented. The review highlights a diverse range of instructional strategies, such as in-class demonstrations, virtual methods, and computer simulations, utilized to teach temperature and heat concepts. Educators are encouraged to consider these strategies to enhance student understanding. Furthermore, the review provides a valuable compilation of effective teaching practices, serving as a practical resource for educators and researchers in the field of temperature and heat education. Overall, the review emphasizes the necessity for further research on successful teaching approaches in temperature and heat education, offering valuable insights for both researchers and educators.

Abstract

The topic of the Human Reproductive System integrated with comprehensive sex education was selected for this research because the concept of the human reproductive system is highly related to daily life. This study aims to develop an Android game application named "HUPROSED" for learning media on human reproductive system topics integrated with sex education. The DDD-E model used as the research method consists of deciding, designing, developing, and evaluating. The deciding stage begins with analyzing content and software. The designing stage consists of making a game hierarchy and storyboard. Then, the application was developed based on the previous stage. The last stage is evaluating, which involves three expert judges, three science teachers, and forty-six students chosen to review the application by purposive sampling. The total average results from the expert judgment show a score of 3.37. The results from teachers and students conduct a score of 3.23 and 3.25. It can be concluded that the development of the game "HUPROSED" using Unity 2019 is categorized as "good" for learning media on the human reproductive system topic.

Abstract

School internships typically adhere to a standard format, employing basic tools for educational purposes. Among these, the greenhouse effect modelling laboratory, traditionally conducted under direct sunlight, faces challenges due to the variability introduced by cloud cover. This variability limits the ability to study the influence of light wavelength on the greenhouse effect, an aspect not accounted for when using sunlight alone. This research aims to explore the impact of light wavelength on temperature changes within greenhouse effect models. In our methodology, we employed an experimental setup that simulated the greenhouse effect using artificial light sources of varying wavelengths: red (641 nm), orange (592 nm), yellow (586 nm), green (536 nm), and blue (474 nm). The experiment involved monitoring the temperature increase within the model greenhouse under each light condition, thereby isolating the effect of wavelength from other environmental variables. The results revealed a direct correlation between light wavelength and the rate of temperature increase in the greenhouse model. Specifically, longer wavelengths were associated with a quicker rise in temperature, highlighting the significant role of wavelength in the greenhouse effect's efficiency. This study underscores the necessity of incorporating wavelength considerations into greenhouse effect models, particularly in educational settings. By integrating such experiments into school curricula, students can gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the greenhouse effect, moving beyond the limitations of traditional sunlight-based experiments.

Abstract

This research investigates the influence of problem-based learning (PBL) on students' motivation within the context of the excretory system topic in the classroom. Despite introducing various innovative teaching models, student motivation still needs to improve to learn science, prompting the need for practical pedagogical approaches. This study used a case study design, utilizing validated observation sheets and questionnaires as instruments for data collection. With 25 students and one science teacher involved as a sample, qualitative and quantitative data are collected and analyzed through narrative descriptive and transcript analysis and the Rasch model, specifically employing Wright Map and Scalograms value. The findings indicate inadequate implementation of problem-based learning in the teaching excretory system, resulting in persistently low student motivation. Instead of implementing a problem-based learning model, the teacher adopts a teacher-centered approach to deliver the excretory system topic. This leads to minimal active student involvement and engagement in teaching and learning.
