Abstract

Breast cancer patients often experience psychological distress, such as anxiety, stress and decreased quality of life, due to treatment processes and physical changes. Addressing these challenges requires holistic nursing care that integrates physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects. In line with the Astra Cita mission to improve community well-being through science and technology, this study developed the ACT Care Application, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to support breast cancer patients in managing psychological distress through mindfulness and self-acceptance. The application provides self-assessment, structured mindfulness exercises, reflective journaling, self-acceptance modules, and virtual community support. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) design, using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). A purposive sample of 30 breast cancer patients in Indonesia participated. Data were collected using a pretest–posttest design with the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Patients used the ACT Care application for four weeks, and effectiveness was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed a significant improvement in the quality of life of breast cancer patients after using the ACT Care application. The mean WHOQOL-BREF score increased from 58.4 to 72.9 (P < 0.001), indicating improvements across physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. This study provides preliminary support for the efficacy of technology-based nursing intervention to improve psychological well-being among breast cancer women. Considering these limitations, there is a need for further research to explore the benefit of ACT Care within specific cultural settings and cultures to ensure that this approach has larger applicability and acceptability.

Abstract

First year of college students relocating away from home frequently encounter diverse challenges while adapting to a new academic and social environment. This transition often impacts their psychological well-being, highlighting the need for protective factors to sustain and enhance mental health. This study aims to analyze the correlation between social support and mental health among these students. Utilizing a descriptive analysis method, the research focused on a population of 125 students, with 95 participant selected trough purposive sampling. Data were gathered via social support and mental health questionnaires. Analysis using the Spearman rank sum test yielded a p-value of 0.003, indicating a significant relationship between the variables. Furthermore, a correlation coefficient of 0.979 indicates a strong positive association, suggesting that diminished social support correspond with poorer mental health outcomes. Further research in developing robust mentoring, and support programs as promotional and preventive measure to safeguard student’s mental health within higher education settings is recommended.

Abstract

The use of social media with content on achievements, lifestyles, and successes of others on social media gives rise to a tendency to make social comparisons that cause psychological stress, insecurity, and uncertainty about the future, and have the potential to affect mental health conditions, especially in Gen-Z who are in the early adulthood phase who are vulnerable to experiencing quarter-life crisis. This study aims to determine the relationship between social media use and quarter-life crisis in Gen-Z students at Tribhuwana Tunggadewi University. The study used a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population was 1,312 and the sample was 307 students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire on social media use and quarter-life crisis that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents had low social media use and moderate quarter-life crisis. Spearman rank test results indicate a significant relationship between social media use and quarter-life crisis (p = 0.000; r = -0.439), indicating a moderately significant relationship between social media use and quarter-life crisis in Gen-Z students. Higher social media use leads to lower levels of quarter-life crisis. Future research is recommended to examine other factors that may influence quarter-life crisis and employ different research designs to obtain more comprehensive results.
