Abstract

Batak Opera of Sisingamangaraja XII the Episode of Ugamo Malim Horja Bolon Na Parpudi: Carriying out the Tradition and Contemporary. The purpose of research and creation of Batak opera is to revitalize Batak traditional arts. Sisingamangaraja Opera Batak XII, the episode of Ugamo Malim Horja Bolon Na Parpudi, results from the research and creation of the Sisingamangaraja XII Batak opera. The creation of Batak opera uses research methods, namely observation, interviews, literature study, and documentation. The working process begins with reading the script, making blocks according to the script, detailing blocking, playing the role/scenes, music, and tutoring, selecting and doing the artistic and lighting creation. Opera Batak was done in contemporary work, including story elements, jokes (amalopas), and even accompaniment (uning-uning). Sisingamangaraja Opera Batak XII, the episode of Ugamo Malim Horja Bolon Na Parpudi tells the story of Ugamo Malim in the Dutch colonial era and the family of King Sisingamangaraja XII. The story’s plot consists of; news of the death of King Sisingamangaraja XII, the captivity of the Sisingamangaraja XII family, Ompu Ni Onggung, and Ompu Portahan Batu, who had a grudge against King Sisingamangaraja XII and followers of Ugamo Malim’s teachings. Tortor dance and Cawan dance were created contemporary. Sisingamangaraja Batak Opera XII, the episode of Ugamo Malim Horja Bolon Na Parpudi wants to maintain the existence and preserve the traditional arts of the Batak community.Keywords: Batak opera; Sisingamaraja XII; ugamo malim; tortor

Abstract

Saluang dan Dendang Sirompak merupakan bagian tidak terpisahkan dari pertunjukan Sirompak.Pertunjukan difungsikan untuk mempengaruhi orang lain melalui kekuatan magi. Tradisi ba-Sirompak diidentifikasi sebuah komposisi musik bersifat free rhythm. Mantera disajikan melaluikalimat yang disusun untuk mendatangkan kekuatan gaib. Ba-sirompak difungsikan untuk‘mengguna-gunai’ wanita secara ilmu kebatinan (magis). Penelitian ini dilakukan denganmenggunakan metode kualitatif, yaitu data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dandokumentasi. Dalam pengumpulan data digunakan tiga tahap penelitian. yaitu: Pertama,studi kapustakaan untuk mengumpulkan bahan tertulis yang diperlukan sesuai masalah yangditeliti. Kedua, penelitian lapangan untuk mungumpulkan data dengan teknik observasidan wawancara langsung secara mandalam, dengan difokuskan pada rekonstruksi ritual Basirompak.;Ketiga, pengolahan data, dilakukan berupa transkripsi music dalam bentuk notasi,deskripsi, dan analisis data yang siap dijadikan laporan. Tujuan penelitian adalah untukmengetahui karakteristik musical Saluang Dendang Sirompak dengan mengkaji unsur-unsurmusikal pada pusaran motif, frase, dan periode melodis.Kata Kunci: Ba-sirompak, Karakter musikal, Ritual Magi.

Abstract

The film Letters to God is a film that tells the story of a teenage girl who was diagnosed with the first Rhabdomyosarcoma cancer in Indonesia. This study aims to identify and analyze the mise en scene of the film Surat Kecil untuk God with the semiotic theory of Rolland Barthes. Rolland Barthes proposed a denotative and connotative meaning system. The method in this study uses descriptive qualitative research. The results of this study are related to settings that include property and location. Through the property of red roses, it is interpreted as Keke's sincerity in loving the people around him. Keke's make-up means that Keke is the one who suffers the most. The lighting in this film is dominantly using tungsten color to give a warm mood. Keke's acting is interpreted as a representation of the original Keke.Keywords: semiotics, mise en scene. AbstrakFilm Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan adalah film yang mengangkat cerita seorang gadis remaja yang mengidap penyakit kanker Rhabdomyosarcoma pertama di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis mise en scene film Surat Kecil Untuk Tuhan dengan teori semiotika Rolland Barthes. Rolland Barthes mengemukakan sistem pemaknaan denotasi dan konotasi.  Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini terkait setting yang mencakup properti dan lokasi. Melalui properti mawar merah dimaknai sebagai keikhlasan Keke dalam menyayangi orang-orang disekitarnya. Tata rias yang digunakan Keke dimaknai bahwa Keke adalah orang yang paling menderita. Abstract

Repertoar musik gendang keyboard sebagai wacana budaya populer memiliki nilai-nilai dan makna sebagai sistem pengetahuan dalam membangun karakteristik individu, kelompok maupun masyarakatnya. Di masyarakat Karo, Sumatera Utara masuknya keyboard menjadi musik tradisional memberi dampak pada perubahan seni tradisional, baik secara adat istiadat, ritual dan hiburan. Tujuan ingin mengangkat fenomena gendang keyboard sebagai praktik kebudayaan di masyarakat Karo, Sumatera Utara. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan secara kualitatif melalui obsevasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Sistem perubahan dan perkembangan musik tradisi Karo diprakarsai oleh Djasa Tarigan menjadi budaya populer dan estetika postmodern. Kepopuleran musik gendang keyboard oleh karena dapat menirukan (imitasi) musik tradisional Karo dalam mengiringi setiap acara adat istiadat, ritual maupun hiburan. Gendang keyboard mengiringi tari (landek) pada bagian patam-patam. Patam-patam memiliki gerakan maju, mundur, goyang dengan cepat layaknya seperti musik “rock and roll”. Musik gendang keyboard sebagai budaya populer masuk dalam wacana estetika pastiche, parodi, kitsch, camp, dan skizofrenia.Kata kunci: Musik Gendang Keyboard, Masyarakat Karo, Budaya Populer, Sumatera Utara

Abstract

Puncak Pato, West Sumatra, is a tourist destination located on the border of Sungayang and Lintau. Puncak Pato as a tourism destination has natural and cultural  potential. It also has historical meaning in Minangkabau for uniting indigenous peoples and religions known as the "Satie Marapalam Oath Agreement". Pato Peak (Bukit Marapalam) is the place where this  agreement was signed between the adat  and religious communities of Minangkabau. This research is a qualitative study that aims to provide a comprehensive and in-depth description of Puncak Pato as a tourist destination. Pato Peak is located in highlands surrounded by hills and pine trees. There is beautiful natural scenery with cool winds drawing many visitors from West Sumatra and  other areas. Existing tourist facilities encourage bicycling , jogging, gymnastics, with meeting places and sites for various cultural arts activities. The facilities also include a large parking area , prayer rooms, and rest rooms. Visitors to Pucak Pato need only buy an adult ticket of IDR 10,000, IDR 5000 for a child. . Visitors are further served by stalls selling food and beverages.Keywords: Puncak Pato; Nature Tourism; West SumateraAbstrakPuncak Pato Sumatera Barat merupakan destinasi wisata berlokasi di perbatasan Sungayang  dan  Lintau.  Objek  wisata Puncak Pato memiliki potensi wisata alam dan budaya dan juga memiliki nilai sejarah Minangkabau dalam menyatukan kaum adat dan kaum agama, yang dikenal dengan “ Perjanjian Sumpah Satie Marapalam”. Puncak Pato (Bukit Marapalam) merupakan tempat terjadinya suatu kesepakatan dan penandatanganan surat perjanjian antara kaum adat dan kaum agama di Minangkabau. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran yang menyeluruh  dan  mendalam  tentang  eksistensi  Puncak  Pato sebagai Destinasi Wisata. Puncak Pato terdapat di dataran tinggi dikelilingi bukit dan pohon pinus. Pemandangan alam yang indah dan tiupan angin yang memberikan kesejukan sehingga banyak pengunjung yang dari Sumatra Barat maupun dari daerah lainnya. Spot wisata yang ada diantaranya sepeda, joging, senam, tempat rapat dan kegiatan berbagai seni budaya. Fasilitas yang dimiliki adalah parkir yang luas, mushola, dan toilet. Untuk berkunjung ke Pucak Pato hanya dengan tiket dewasa Rp 10.000 dan anak Rp 5000. Abstract

Social communication in the world of dance is an essential element in societal life. It not only facilitates the exchange of information and ideas but also builds and maintains social relationships within the arts. However, to ensure effective communication, it is necessary to address various challenges such as communication gaps and message distortion. A better understanding of social communication can help individuals and communities interact more effectively and harmoniously. Dance communication is an effective and powerful way to convey complex messages, emotions, and ideas. Through various mediums, artists can interact with their audience and build deep understanding and appreciation. However, to achieve effective communication, challenges such as diverse interpretations and cultural gaps must be addressed. Thus, art can continue to play a vital role as a communication tool in society. The creative industry is an economic sector focused on the creation and exploitation of intellectual and artistic works. It is a dynamic and rapidly growing sector that plays a significant role in the modern economy. By harnessing creativity and intellectual skills, this industry not only generates substantial economic value but also makes a significant contribution to cultural identity and innovation. However, to reach its full potential, various challenges such as intellectual property rights protection, funding, market access, and education need to be addressed. With appropriate support, the creative industry can continue to grow and provide greater benefits to society and the economy, especially in the field of dance arts

Abstract

Abstract The influence of the game is so great for Junior High School students, in which games can create addiction for them. As a result, they cannot manage their time well, skip their classes, and oftenly disturbed while studying because they constantly think about games on and on. The main cause is likely because of the psychology of junior high school students that still cannot control what they want wisely. As a result, their performance in studying will certainly decrease, which is resulted in their failure in academics. If this phenomena continues, it will surely impact their future in negative way. Therefore, it is necessary for the media to help junior high school students to be aware about the importance of managing their time, as well as giving the understanding that play games is not bad but they should know the boundary. Keywords: Public Service Ads, Games, Junior High School Students.

Abstract

The purpose of this article entitled "Naki-naki: Oral Tradition of the Karo Tribe in North Sumatra" is to examine the context of the traditional courtship system among the young people using oral tradition (oral literature) in the Karo community that developed in ancient times. The Karo community has a unique tradition in finding a life partner. Karo youths, whether male or female, are encouraged to marry (erjabu) as soon as they reach adulthood. Adult males are referred to as "anak perana" and are identified by characteristics such as wearing long pants (saluar gedang) and sleeping in the traditional Karo building called "jambur." Adult females are known as "singuda-nguda" and are identified by characteristics such as menstruation, participation in youth work groups, including communal activities and involvement in artistic festivals (guro-guro-aron).The stages of introduction between young people begin with the tradition of "ngaras-ngaras" and continue with "ertutur." Ertutur can be done with the help of friends, family intermediaries, or directly. The introduction then progresses to a stage known as "Naki-naki." Naki-naki is the moment when the "anak perana" endeavors to convince the "singuda-nguda" to fully accept him for marriage. Naki-naki involves using the eloquent Karo language and is often done at night on the terrace of the house ("ture") or inside the house. The goal is for the couple and their families to get to know each other well.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Analisis Media Kampanye Pasangan Mahyeldi dan Audy Joinaldy Pada Pilkada Sumatera Barat Tahun 2020”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis media kampanye pasangan Mahyeldi dan Audy Joinaldy pada pilkada Sumatera Barat tahun 2020. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi pustaka. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis teori desain komunikasi visual, SWOT dan teori semiotika Roland Barthes. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa; pertama, media kampanye menjadi salah satu faktor penentu dalam upaya mendapatkan raihan suara terbanyak, terutama dalam mengkomunikasikan pesan dan tujuan personal branding kepada para pemilih. Adanya logo khusus (MA) pada media kampanye sebagai personal branding kedua pasang calon menjadi daya tarik tersendiri dalam proses kampanye yang dilakukan. Logo MA (Mahyeldy Audy) selalu muncul dalam setiap media kampanye yang dipublikasikan seperti spanduk, baliho, umbul-umbul dan media kampanye lainnya; Kedua, terdapatnya bentuk media utama dan media pendukung, saling berkaitan serta konsisten bentuk media kampanye yang digunakan. Media utama seperti logo, adanya keunikan simple, sederhana, elegant, identitas minangkabau, serta menarik perhatian sedangkan media pendukung seperti baliho, umbul-umbul, spanduk saling konsisten, keseragaman, unik dari segi figure atau foto, tagine, ikon logo, tipografi, dan warna. Makna media terdapat dari segi beberapa pandangan diantaranya komunikasi politik, antropologi politik, sosiologi politik dan lainnya.

Abstract

This paper discusses the Kutau martial arts ritual practiced by the people of Suro Village, Muara Beliti District, Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra Province. Kutau is one of the ancestral heritages consisting of a set of rituals. Kutau takes the form of traditional martial arts that has been developed by the Suro Village community. Applying the qualitative approach, this study aimed to systematically document all forms of rituals in Kutau and its functions within the Suro community. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed using Victor Turner’s ritual approach and Talcot Parsons’ function approach. Results show that Kutau is a medium of communication between the community and their ancestors to pass down the Kutau knowledge, which is closely related to Suro people’s belief system. Kutau still prevails thanks to the latency function of the Kutau community, so that the whole system is able to survive and adapt to the current society.
