Abstract

Background: Neem leaf is used to increase body imune response, antivirus, antifungi, antibacterial, dan antioxidant. These biology activities was suspected because of proteinin neem leaf. Protein in plants can be used as pharmacogenetic identification becausesome proteins in plants posse characteristic can defense to some pathogenmcroorganism. The way to know protein in the organism is using profile protein analyticthrough SDS-PAGE method. SDS-PAGE separates protein molecules by size andparticular shapping and also can determine protein molecular weight. Protein profilescan be obtained with protein extracts using solvents. Protein is a polar compound whichis bonded to a polar solvent therefore chosen ethanol and aquadest as a liquid asextraction solvent . Purpose: To know the protein profile of aquadest and ethanolextracts of neem leaf by using SDS-PAGE. Method: This study uses neem leaf as asample, aquadest and 70% ethanol as the extraction solvent then analyzed using SDSPAGE.Result: The results showed 9 protein bands on the aquadest extract of neemleaf and 8 of protein bands on the ethanol extract of neem leaf. Conclusion: From thestudy, there is a difference between the amount of protein bands aquadest extracts ofneem leaf with ethanol extract of neem leaf. Keywords: aquadest extract, ethanol extract, neem leaf, protein profile, SDS-PAGE

Abstract

Dental problems such as caries are found in the majority of the population of Indonesia. Dental caries is caused by several factors, host, bacteria, substrate and time. The bacteria in deeper caries is Lactobacillus acidophilus. To overcome this problem using synthetic mouthwash containing chlorhexidine, but have it mutagenic effects in the oral cavity. Another alternative is to use natural ingredients that have antibacterial power and smaller side effects. Apple peels which not used by the people is thrown away. Apple peels contains more polyphenols which have antibacterial effect. The aim of this study is knowing the antibacterial activity of manalagi apple peel extract in inhibiting L. acidophilus’s growth. This study used an experimental post-test only control group design with a well diffusion method using 6 groups of samples per treatment in 4 repetitions. The sample consisted of 4 treatment groups namely manalagi apple peel extract concentration of 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, positive control group (clorhexidine 0.2%), and negative control group (sterile aquades). The results of the study showed that of all treatment groups of apple peel extract in all concentrations can inhibit growth of L. Acidophilus.

Abstract

Background. Root canal irrigation is important for debridement and disinfection in rootcanal treatment to eliminate population of microorganisms that exist in the root canal.Irrigation materials must be biocompatible and can not cause biological response.Objective. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of pod Mangosteen extractas alternative root canal irrigation materials to eliminate bacterial colonies. Method. Thisresearch was experimental study with post test control group design. The method wasdone by counting the number of mix bacterial colonies in the media used colony countertool. 24 samples were divided into 4 groups, they were 80% pod mangosteen extract,100% pod mangosteen extract, 2.5% NaOCl and distilled water. Results andConclusions. Pod mangosteen extract with 100% concentration had antibacterialcapabilities similar to 2.5% NaOCl. Pod mangosteen extract (Garcinia mangostana L.)was able to eliminate mix bacteria in root canals. Keywords: biocompatible, irrigation materials, the mangosteen peel extract, the numberof mix bacterial colonies

Abstract

Application fissure sealant with glass ionomer materials effectively prevent the occurrence of dental hard tissue damage. Release of fluoride from glass ionomer can remineralize tooth and make it more resistant to acid. Application of glass ionomer sealant can expect an prevent damage hard tooth tissue on people who consume carbonated drinks in excess. The purpose of this study to determine the effects of immersion material glass ionomer cement fissure sealant on carbonated drinks to the release of fluoride ions . This research is an experimental laboratory with research design the post test only control group design . Glass ionomer material FUJI VII apllied on the buccal premolar and soaked with intervals of 30,60,90, 120 minutes and 24 hours in carbonated drink 50 ml . New replacement soaking solution performed on each interval . Calculation performed on each fluorine soaking solution using a spectrophotometer. Final result were analyzed using Kolmogorov Smirnov and Levene's test, followed by test Two way annova to see the difference between the control and treatment groups and followed by Duncan test to assess the difference between treatments. The results showed that the release of fluoride that has been soaked in a solution of glass ionomer materials . Fluoride content was highest at the beginning of immersion ( 30 minutes ) of 1.43 ppm and decreased significantly ( p > 0.05 ) in the next soaking up the content contained in the lows at the end of immersion ( 24 hours ) of 1.28 ppm. Key word : Carbonated drinks, fissure sealants, glass ionomer, the release of fluoride
