Abstract

Integrated STEM-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) is an instructional approach designed by teachers to actively engage students in learning activities, aiming to enhance their creative thinking skills and stimulate the exploration of new ideas. This study aimed to analyze the feasibility, effectiveness, and practicality of STEM-integrated PjBL learning devices in improving the creative thinking skills of fourth-grade students at Santo Paulus Martubung Elementary School, Medan. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method. The findings indicated that the developed learning devices significantly improved students' creative thinking skills, as evidenced by an average n-gain score of 0.49, which falls into the moderate improvement category. Additionally, the devices proved effective in enhancing students' scientific literacy, with an average score of 0.64, also categorized as a moderate increase. The observed improvements included greater interest in science and technology, active participation in discovery-based activities (practices and projects), and a stronger sense of responsibility in managing natural resources and the surrounding environment. Therefore, the STEM-integrated PjBL learning devices are considered feasible, effective, and practical for use in primary education, supporting contextual learning that fosters students’ creative thinking and scientific literacy.

Abstract

Background: Vocational learning in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, and Work Culture requires instructional approaches that emphasize procedural understanding, safety awareness, and problem-solving skills. However, learning practices in many vocational schools still rely on conventional media, resulting in limited student engagement and suboptimal learning outcomes.Aims: This study aimed to develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based e-book and examine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness as an instructional solution for K3LH and Work Culture learning. Methods: This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model. The e-book was designed by integrating authentic workplace problems, visualized safety procedures, structured PBL stages, and performance-based assessments. Validation was conducted by material, media, and instructional design experts. Product testing included individual trials, small-group trials, and field implementation. Data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, followed by an independent samples t-test.Results: The e-book demonstrated high validity, with a material expert score of 95.60%. Practicality testing showed very high ratings from teachers (96.67%) and students (94.89%). Effectiveness analysis indicated a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups (t = 5.79 > tₜₐᵦₗₑ = 2.00). The findings suggest that the e-book improves safety-oriented understanding and work attitudes, although advanced practical skills require additional simulation support. Conclusion: The PBL-based e-book is an effective instructional medium that enhances active learning and improves learning outcomes in vocational education, particularly in K3LH and Work Culture.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Improving the quality of the learning process in the subject Basic Design Modeling and Building Information is a strategic step to optimize students learning outcomes, particularly in professional and entrepreneurial aspects. This study aims to examine the difference in impact between the implementation of a Project Based Learning based E Module and the use of printed modules applying the Direct Instruction approach on the cognitive learning outcomes of Grade X DPIB students at SMK Negeri 14 Medan. This research employed an experimental method with a comparative design between an experimental class and a control class. The research procedures included the implementation of instructional treatment, the administration of learning outcome evaluations, and data processing and analysis using a t test. The findings revealed a highly significant difference between the two groups. This was evidenced by the calculated t value of 4.426, which exceeded the t table value of 1.670, indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The average learning outcome score of students in the experimental class reached 81.344 and exceeded the Minimum Mastery Criteria of ≥75. Meanwhile, the control class obtained an average score of 63.75, which remained below the established mastery threshold. These results indicate that the implementation of a Project Based Learning based E Module is more effective in improving students cognitive achievement compared to printed modules using the Direct Instruction approach. Therefore, project based learning supported by digital modules can be considered a more innovative strategy that aligns with the characteristics of vocational education.
