Abstract

Background: The management of cardiac surgery is not devoid of complications, which can result in disability or even mortality. Various interventions are implemented to mitigate the complications associated with cardiac surgery. Warm reperfusion is one of the easy, efficient and harmless intervention options for patients. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of warm blood reperfusion in reducing the incidence of reperfusion injury in cardiac surgery using the aortic cross clamp procedure. Method: A literature search based on several online databases such as ProQuest, PubMed, Sage Journal, Scopus, SpringerLink, Oxford and Frontiers published from 2018-2024. Results: The results of the study indicate that there are several interventions aimed at reducing the incidence of reperfusion injury. Several interventions can be carried out including: giving warm reperfusion, medication and choosing the type of cardioplegia. Reperfusion injury is measured by several variables such as increased cardiac troponin, arrhythmia, inotropic use and length of stay in the intensive care unit. Conclusion: Warm reperfusion was more effective and efficient compared to several other interventions such as medication and cardioplegia selection.

Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease is one of the global public health challenges that continues to increase with a significant impact on morbidity, mortality and high health care costs. Hemodialysis, one of the renal replacement therapy methods, often causes anxiety and decreased quality of life. Mind body therapies such as guided imagery, yoga and meditation have the potential to reduce anxiety and improve the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness application of mind body therapies on anxiety and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Method: This systematic review uses an approach that follows the PRISMA guidelines. Searches were conducted in six electronic databases, namely Scopus, Springerlink, Proquest, EBSCO, Science Direct and Pubmed with appropriate keywords. The included articles were published within the last 10 years, in English and the type of research was RCT or quasi-experimental. After the selection process, 10 articles met the criteria for further analysis. Results: Eight articles were RCT designs and two articles were quasi-experimental designs. The application of mind body therapies including guided imagery, yoga and meditation is a complementary therapy that can reduce anxiety and improve quality of life. In addition, it also affects the improvement of sleep quality, reduces depression, reduces stress levels and emotional regulation in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Conclusion: Mind body therapies have been proven effective in reducing anxiety and improving the quality of life of hemodialysis patients. This therapy can be used both during hemodialysis sessions and when done alone at home. With its various benefits, this therapy has the potential to be integrated into holistic and evidence-based patient care.

Abstract

Background The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia has greatly affected women living with HIV (WLWH).ObjectiveThis study explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on WLWH.MethodsThe study design was qualitative descriptive. A total of 11 WLWH participated in the study.  Data collection was conducted in four cities in Indonesia including Tangerang, Jakarta, Mojokerto, and Samarinda.  Semi-structured interviews with WLWH who actively received antiretroviral therapy (ART) for at least 6 months prior to the pandemic were conducted via telephone and face to face.  Data were analyzed using content analysis.ResultsMost of them were 35-45 years old, married, completed high school, and housewives.  Five themes emerged including perceived vulnerability and adaptive ART adherence; the economic impacts of the pandemic; spousal and peer support for art continuity; impact on daily life and well-being; resilience through faith and acceptance of “takdir” (God and Destiny).ConclusionDespite socioeconomic and psychosocial challenges, participants described maintaining ART continuity through adaptive clinic procedures, personal routines, spousal or peer support, and religious coping. These findings suggest that flexible, culturally sensitive, and family-aware nursing approaches may help support WLWH during future healthcare disruptions.KeywordsAdherence, COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia, women living with HIV

Abstract

Background: Patients undergoing hemodialysis frequently experience complications such as fatigue, restless legs syndrome, pruritus, and sleep disturbances that impair their quality of life. Although individual trials have suggested that massage therapy may alleviate these complications, no previous systematic review has synthesized its overall effectiveness across multiple hemodialysis-related outcomes. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of massage therapy in managing hemodialysis-related complications and to identify the key characteristics of massage interventions. Methods: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Articles published between 2019 and 2025 were identified through searches of six databases: ScienceDirect, Scopus, EBSCOhost, PubMed, Wiley, and ProQuest. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool, and data were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. Results: Eighteen randomized controlled trials involving a total of 1,383 patients undergoing hemodialysis were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled effect sizes indicated that massage interventions were effective in reducing fatigue (SMD = −0.88, 95% CI: −1.27 to −0.49), restless legs syndrome (SMD = −1.62, 95% CI: −2.31 to −0.93), and pruritus (SMD = −1.34, 95% CI: −2.65 to −0.03), while significantly improving sleep quality (SMD = 1.05, 95% CI: 0.63 to 1.47) and quality of life (SMD = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.31 to 0.81). Variations in massage techniques and intervention duration demonstrated differential effects on hemodialysis-related complications. Conclusion: Massage therapy, as a nonpharmacological intervention, was associated with improvements in several hemodialysis-related complications. However, the substantial between-study heterogeneity (I² = 42%–93%) warrants cautious interpretation of the findings. Massage therapy appears to be a low-cost, generally safe, noninvasive adjunctive intervention with minimal reported adverse effects for patients undergoing hemodialysis.
