Abstract

This research elucidated and examined the practice of teacher speech actions in the context of teaching English as a second language. The present study used qualitative research approaches. The present study investigated the verbal expressions of professors at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The data consisted of teacher comments and other utterances. The researcher actively participated in all aspects of this inquiry, including the whole process from concept to data report. Data was obtained by audio video and observational methods. The data was gathered, documented, chosen to align with study objectives, organized into data sheets, and then analyzed and assessed using Searle's speech act theory. The study revealed that the teacher used many speech acts, including locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary activities. There were 122 words (51.69%) that had locutionary actions. There was a total of 107 illocutionary activities, accounting for 45.33% of the utterances, and 7 perlocutionary acts, or 2.97%. Teachers using speech acts in English instruction use them to validate, rectify, elucidate, apprise, and assert on behalf of their students. Directives include a range of directives, such as reminders, requests, instructions, and warnings. Expressive words include expressions of gratitude, warm greetings, praises, and dissatisfaction. Compliments are reciprocal in nature. Instructions were used by teachers the most often, accounting for 93 instances or 45.15 percent of all speech activities. The purpose of the teacher's speech was to pose an inquiry.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy remains a significant public health problem, particularly in developing countries such as Indonesia. This case study describes midwifery care for a 23-year-old woman at 38 weeks and 4 days of gestation diagnosed with moderate anemia (hemoglobin 8 g/dL) at PMB Suryanti, Makassar. According to the Ministry of Health standards, the study applied the midwifery care management process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation. Data were collected through interviews, physical examinations, and laboratory tests. The main complaints were fatigue and dizziness, with pale conjunctiva and lips as clinical findings. Midwifery interventions included providing health education about balanced nutrition, rest, and personal hygiene and administering iron supplements (Fe 200 mg), vitamin C, B-complex, and calcium lactate. After consistent care and follow-up, the hemoglobin level increased to 9.5 g/dL, and the pregnancy continued normally until term. This case demonstrates that comprehensive antenatal midwifery care, focusing on early detection, nutritional counseling, and compliance with iron supplementation, effectively improves maternal hemoglobin levels and prevents complications. The study emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and health education for pregnant women to reduce the incidence of anemia and ensure maternal and fetal well-being

Abstract

Transgender sex workers often experience discrimination, social stigma, psychological pressure, and limited access to employment, education, and legal protection. Therefore, this study aims to reveal the psychological impacts on transgender sex workers, based on interviews with four informants in the Sawerigading area of Makassar City, selected through purposive sampling. This research employs a qualitative case study approach using interviews and observations to understand the psychological impacts in a deep and contextual manner. Data were analyzed thematically through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that transgender sex workers in Sawerigading experience psychological pressure due to stigma, discrimination, and economic demands. The conflict between self-acceptance and social rejection generates stress, anxiety, and the use of defense mechanisms. The lack of social support worsens their mental condition, indicating the need for serious attention to create a fair, inclusive, and humane environment. Therefore, it is crucial to improve access to mental health services, public education to reduce stigma, strengthen social support, and develop inclusive policies that protect the rights and dignity of transgender individuals.
