Abstract

Purpose – Science learning often struggles to boost student engagement and understanding. Educational games offer an innovative approach, but they often overlook local cultural contexts, reducing their relevance for students. This study examines the views of science educators on the use of Edu Game Adventure based on Minangkabau culture in science learning.Method – This study uses a mixed-method approach with questionnaires distributed to 50 science teachers and lecturers in West Sumatra. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative analysis focused on open-ended responses. The purposive sampling ensures diverse perspectives on the integration of local cultures in science learning, providing a deeper understanding of practitioners' views across different educational levels and experiences.Findings – The results indicate that most practitioners view the integration of Minangkabau culture in educational games positively. 80% believe it boosts student interest in science, 75% say it promotes cultural diversity and local values, 65% feel it encourages active involvement, and 70% think it broadens perspectives on cultural diversity. These findings suggest that integrating Minangkabau culture enhances student engagement and understanding, providing valuable insights for designing culturally relevant learning tools. Research Implications – The study's results offer practical guidance for curriculum developers and educators to integrate local culture into engaging, meaningful learning designs, highlighting the importance of culturally relevant content to enhance teaching effectiveness.

Abstract

Purpose: This study explores the cultural and spiritual appropriation strategies employed by transnational Islamic movements, specifically Salafi and Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), in their expansion and dissemination of religious teachings in West Sumatra, Indonesia. The research focuses on how these groups utilize local cultural identities, values, and symbols to embed themselves within the social and religious landscape of the region. Methodology: Using a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, content analysis, and literature review from books, websites, and academic studies. West Sumatra was chosen as the case study due to its historical openness to Islamic teachings and its recent ranking as one of the least religiously moderate provinces in Indonesia. Findings: The findings revealed that transnational Islamic groups successfully appropriate local cultural elements to minimize resistance and enhance acceptance, mirroring the historical spread of Islam in the region. These groups utilize various vehicles, including educational institutions, traditional and digital media, and religious gatherings, to advance their ideological missions. Implications: This study expands the application of cultural appropriation theory by examining how transnational religious ideologies adapt symbolically to local cultures. The findings are also practically relevant for policymakers and communities in formulating religious moderation strategies and detecting ideological infiltration through cultural channels. Originality and Value: Its originality lies in its regional focus and its interdisciplinary analysis of religious expansion through the lens of cultural adaptation, providing a nuanced understanding of contemporary Islamic movements in Indonesia.

Abstract

Changes in learning patterns that are taking place rapidly due to Covid-19 have made every educational institution able to quickly adapt, especially in the use of learning technology. Teacher readiness in optimizing the use of technology to support the learning process is a new problem that arises when the concept of digital learning begins to be echoed. The use of technology can help teachers visualize material (such as in science learning Physics) and assist teachers in conducting evaluation activities in a practical and efficient manner. The limitations of teachers, especially in several educational institutions in South Tangerang to utilize technology in learning, are the background of the importance of training activities carried out. The results obtained after implementation refer to the evaluation of tasks and practices observed during the training process, indicating that there was an increase in teacher skills in utilizing technology to support the learning process. The teachers who have attended the training have been able to integrate the use of virtual laboratory applications and evaluate student learning outcomes using the quizizz application. The training on the use of learning technology is one of the forms of support from the Physics Education Study Program of FKIP UT to assist and assist teachers in carrying out technology-based learning activities, especially in Physics Science learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This research is an attempt to investigate further about the treasures of Indonesian scholars in the process of transmitting Islamic religious knowledge. The handwritten manuscript of Syekh H. Ali Imran Hasan which expounds the concepts of the teachings of the Tarekat Syattariyah is the main object in this library research. However, data from in-depth interviews with purposively selected credible sources are also used as supporting material in describing the qualitative analysis of this study. The main focus that becomes research angel in this manuscript is the aspect of the Qur’an which is quite unique in it. Several verses of the Qur’an are quoted and explained in such a way in the realm of esoteric interpretation in the style of the Sufis in general. In addition, several verses of the Qur’an are rewritten in the form of certain patterns, each of which has philosophical meanings in order to achieve certain purposes in the process of associating tarekat. The theory used in analyzing the texts contained in the manuscript is a hermeneutic approach of Jorge Gracia where in analyzing texts two general sub-theories are needed, namely; meaning function and implicative function. The results of this study indicate that the contact of the Indonesian Ulama with the Qur’an which is interpreted according to their respective horizons experiences quite varied dynamics, even different from the interpretation of the classical Ulama style which seems singular and normative.
