Abstract

Organic waste dominates the waste sourced from the market so it needs to be processed before it goes to the TPA. Utilization of BSF larvae is an effort to process organic waste in reducing the volume of waste that will be disposed of in the TPA. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of BSF larvae to reduce organic waste on the market. The composition of the type of waste used consisted of fruit, vegetable, food waste and mixtures (50% fruit waste: 40% vegetable waste: 10% food waste waste) with a variation of feeding rate of 40, 60 and 80 mg/larvae/day. The number of larvae included in each reactor was 4000 individuals (70 grams) using 5-day larvae (5-DOL) with a composting duration of 18 days. The results showed that BSF larvae were able to reduce organic waste under optimum pH conditions ranging from 7.5- 8.3 with an average temperature of around 31⁰C and humidity ranging from 56-88%. The reduction results obtained in this study were 78% for various vegetables with a feeding rate of 60 mg/larvae/day. The best results of laboratory analysis based on SNI 19-7030-2004 are mixed sample variations with a feeding rate of 80 mg/larvae/day which have a C-Organic content of 32.55%, a C/N ratio of 17%, a moisture content of 12.89%, N total 1.88%, P2O5 2.22% and K2O 2.68%.

Abstract

The problem of waste is still the main topic of discussion. One of the sources of waste in the city is the market. The waste produced is in the form of organic waste and inorganic waste that has not yet been processed or recycled. Muara Baru Modern Fish Market is one of the fish markets as the largest fish auction centre in Penjaringan District, North Jakarta. This research aims to determine the amount of waste generated, the composition of the waste, and the protein content produced through several research variations. The research variations were determined based on the composition of organic waste combined with the amount of feed given to Black Soldier Fly (BSF). The volume of waste produced was 1045 kg/day from both wet and dry house sources. The composition of the waste sampled included organic waste consisting of food waste, food losses and fish waste up to 50.45%, while inorganic waste consisting of various types of plastic and paper was up to 49.55%. The potential for recyclable waste is 98.5%. The protein content obtained from the processing of organic waste using BSF in all research variants met the SNI quality requirements, the highest protein content being 31.8% in the 100% food waste research variant.

Abstract

Tangerang City is one of the cities in Banten Province. The dense population causes an increase in the volume of waste, so an adequate Solid Waste Facility (SWF) is needed. Solid Waste Facility is the place to process and return the waste to the environment. Rawa Kucing SWF is one that serves Tangerang City with an area of 37.7 hectares, divided into four landfill zones and landfill support facilities. With the remaining land that can be used to build a new landfill, it is necessary to conduct a study on the feasibility of Rawa Kucing SWF if it is still feasible as seen by the environmental conditions or not. In the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works Number 3 of 2013, there is a land suitability assessment for taking decision of SWF whether it is to be rehabilitated or should be closed known as the Integrated Risk Based Approach (IRBA). The result of the environmental risk index assessment based on IRBA is 599.03, which means that mean Rawa Kucing SWF is included in moderate hazard category. The recommended action in this category is that the TPA is continued and rehabilitated into gradually controlled landfill. Currently, the Rawa Kucing SWF has applied controlled landfill method, so the effort to develop the landfill method into sanitary landfill method can be done gradually to reduce adverse impact to the environment. Technology such as Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Plants can also be considered to reduce the waste load entering the landfill.
