Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop a balanced diet index (BDI) in relation to nutritional quality of the diet (NQ) in Indonesian adult females. This study used food consumption data from the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) of 2010. The food consumption data were collected using 24-h food recall method through a cross-sectional study. Total subject of this study was 61,759 adult females19—55 years. The NQ of 16 nutrients was used as a gold standard in the validity testing. The results showed that the simplest and the most valid measurement was BDI3-60 (correlation coefficients with the NQ=0.7) which was based on three levels of scoring system (0, 5, and 10) and six food groups (carbohydrate food sources, animal protein food, plant protein food, vegetable, fruit, and milk), without considering fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. The mean score of BDI3-60 was 31.0±12.1.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a nutritional problem that has serious impacts on the health of both the mother and the fetus, such as increased risk of preterm birth, low birth weight, and labor complications. In Jambi City, CED cases have continued to rise year by year. This study aims to identify the determinants of CED among pregnant women in the working area of Putri Ayu Public Health Center, Jambi City. This study employed a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design using a cross-sectional method. The sample consisted of 82 pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and anthropometric measurements using MUAC. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to examine the relationship between independent variables and the incidence of CED. The study found that the prevalence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women was 28%. Statistical analysis revealed that infectious diseases (p=0.000), personal hygiene (p=0.009), environmental sanitation (p=0.037), education (p=0.004), occupation (p=0.000), and income (p=0.040) were significantly associated with CED in pregnant women. There is a significant relationship between infectious diseases, personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, education, occupation, and income with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women at Putri Ayu Public Health Center, Jambi City. It is expected that efforts to address chronic energy deficiency (CED) among pregnant women at Putri Ayu Public Health Center can be carried out through an integrated approach, including improvements in personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, prevention of infectious diseases, as well as enhancement of education, employment, and family income.

Abstract

Abstract— Stunting is one of the nutritional problems in Indonesia. One of the specific interventions for stunting is nutritional support in the form of protein-rich complementary foods, both animal and plant-based protein. This research is expected to provide an alternative to high-protein complementary foods for toddlers, thereby contributing to efforts to reduce stunting problems in Indonesia. The biscuit formulation consists of four treatments of the ratio of wheat flour: tempeh flour: Nile Tilapia fish flour, namely (F1) 100:0:0, (F2) 50:15:35, (F3) 50:25:25, and (F4) 50:35:15. The test parameters in this study were organoleptic tests, chemical tests in the form of proximate analysis, calcium, zinc, dietary fiber, amino acid, and fatty acid content, as well as physical tests in the form of texture and color. The results of the study showed that the best treatment based on the organoleptic test was a ratio of 50:25:25. Chemical tests showed that proximate analysis, calcium, dietary fiber, essential and non-essential amino acid composition, and fatty acid composition of selected biscuits were higher than those of control biscuits. The zinc content of selected biscuits was the same as that of control biscuits. The results of physical tests showed that selected biscuits had the same color description as the control, but had a softer texture than the control. The conclusion obtained was that, based on the composition of nutritional and non-nutritional content, selected biscuits with a 50:25:25 formulation have the potential as complementary food ingredients for breast milk that can help prevent stunting in toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Anemia remains a significant public health issue, particularly among adolescent girls, due to its impact on cognitive development, productivity, and reproductive health. This study aims to investigate the association between anemia status and specific contributing factors—including nutritional status (underweight, overweight/obese), dietary intake (staple food and protein consumption), and socioeconomic status (parental education, pocket money)—among adolescent girls aged 12–18 years in Bekasi, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2018 across five high schools in Bekasi, involving 345 adolescent girls aged 12-18 years. Data were collected through food frequency questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and hemoglobin level tests. Anemia was classified based on WHO guidelines. Statistical analysis included univariate, bivariate, and multivariate tests to identify significant predictors. Results: The prevalence of anemia among participants was 30.7% (95% CI: 25.9%–35.8%), with mild anemia being the most common type, accounting for 48.1% of anemic cases. Overweight or obese participants were significantly more likely to be anemic (OR = 3.52, 95% CI: 1.65–7.51, p = 0.001). Staple food consumption frequency also showed a significant association with anemia risk (OR = 1.75, 95% CI: 0.95–3.21, p = 0.070). However, no significant association was found between socioeconomic status and anemia. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study highlights the role of nutritional status and dietary patterns in anemia prevalence among adolescent girls. Public health interventions should focus on improving dietary quality and addressing both undernutrition and overnutrition. Future research should investigate the effectiveness of iron supplementation programs, the bioavailability of iron in staple diets, and the role of fortified school meals in reducing anemia risk in this population.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) have become a significant health issue requiring serious attention. Data from the Jambi City Health Office shows an increase in NCD cases from 16,154 in 2022 to 16,246 in 2023, with 4,129 cases being the highest. This study aims to analyze the management of the integrated NCD control post (Posbindu) at Rawasari Community Health Center. Using a qualitative research method with a descriptive-analytical approach, the study involved 11 informants, including healthcare workers and Posbindu cadres. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document reviews. The findings indicate that program planning is not yet optimal due to a lack of cadres and inadequate facilities and infrastructure. Task organization is functioning as expected, but the limited number of cadres forces healthcare workers to provide additional assistance. The program is implemented through socialization efforts, but the five-stage system is not fully standardized, and community participation remains low. Monitoring, recording, and reporting are in accordance with the 2019 Ministry of Health guidelines. Overall, the Posbindu NCD program at Rawasari Community Health Center is running fairly well, but challenges persist in planning and implementation. Improvements are needed, particularly in increasing the number of trained cadres, collaborating with relevant stakeholders, and optimizing the five-stage Posbindu service system to enhance program effectiveness.

Abstract

background:The Indonesian Nutrition Status Study (SSGI) in 2021 showed that Bungo Regency data has a stunted toddler prevalence of 22.9%. Several research results have shown that the problem of stunting in toddlers is related to low protein intake in daily food consumption. On the other hand, Jambi Province has local food sources of protein, especially freshwater fish as an alternative to daily side dishes. This study aims to examine the pattern of protein food consumption in Sungai Mengkuang and Sungai Puri Village as Bungo Regency's stunting locus village. Method: Quantitative methods are used to measure the toddler's pattern of protein food consumption with a food frequency questionnaire and food recall. Result: The results showed that food protein consumption was already contained in children's complementary feeding, but with the number of servings that did not meet the balanced nutrition guidelines (< 100% daily recommendations). Discussion: As many as 63.5% of respondents have received complementary feeding ≥ three times a day. Conclusion: It is necessary to optimize the production, distribution, and consumption of local protein foods as a solution to accelerate reduction of stunting.
