Abstract

Bioheat transfer is a combination of heat transfer and biology process comprising of transfer of heat from human living tissue to the environment. This study aims to estimate the temperature distribution of female human’s skin. In this study, effect of varied blood perfusions of 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 kg/s.m3 on bioheat transfer of female human skin, which was modeled into four layers, was simulated. To address this issue, one-dimensional unsteady state finite difference method was applied in this study.  Result of this study informed that the finite difference method can be used to solve the bioheat transfer equation and to estimate temperature distribution of different skin layers of female human. In this study, blood perfusion affects temperature distribution in the four layers of unstable women's skin. The highest blood perfusion of 3 kg/s.m3 resulted in more homogeny temperature distribution of different skin layers. This circumstance occurred since higher blood perfusion increases heat transfer between blood and skin layers.

Abstract

The thermal protective performance is provided by thermal protective clothing worn by people who work in high temperature environments and is highly influenced by air gaps. In this paper, effect of air gap thickness on thermal protective performance as indicated by the time before degree burn were investigated. 3 layers of thermal protective clothing with 3 types of fabrics that have been selected will be tested using an experimental method. The research will be conducted through experimental tests using the fabric level method on a bench-scale test apparatus which is equipped with 4 thermocouples and using gas torch as a heat source. The air gap located between the layers of thermal protective clothing will be varied with different thickness in a vertical orientation. The size of the air gap used varies from 01 mm, 2.51 mm, 51 mm, and 7.51 mm. The results show that the temperature distribution in each layer of clothing from the outer shell to the thermal linear has decreased. In addition, time before degree burn which is an indicator on thermal protective performance shows a positive effect on the addition of air gap thickness where the optimum air gap thickness is shown at 7.5 mm variation. It is hoped that the results of this research can be a source or useful information in mechanical engineering, especially in the fields of thermal comfort and fire safety.

Abstract

Surabaya and Jakarta are two major cities in Indonesia that serve as national centers of business, economic activity, and government administration, resulting in high intercity mobility between them. The operation of the Trans‑Java Toll Road has accelerated the growth of sleeper bus services, while executive rail remains a preferred mode due to its stable comfort and reliability. This study aims to identify passenger characteristics, analyze the probability of mode choice based on factors such as fare affordability, travel time, comfort, calmness, and safety, and propose service improvements for both modes. A revealed preference survey was conducted with two hundred respondents who had already selected either executive rail or sleeper bus for their Surabaya–Jakarta trip. The data were analyzed using binary logistic regression to model the probability of choosing each mode. The results show that most passengers belong to the choice‑user category at 65.5 percent and are predominantly private‑sector employees at 52.5 percent. The key determinant for selecting executive rail is the importance placed on calmness and comfort, yielding a predicted probability of 78.52 percent. In contrast, the dominant factor influencing sleeper bus selection is safety consideration, with a predicted probability of 96.52 percent. These findings indicate that executive rail attracts passengers seeking a quiet and comfortable travel environment, while sleeper buses appeal to travelers prioritizing safety and time efficiency supported by toll‑road connectivity. The study concludes that service improvements should focus on enhancing comfort and safety to strengthen the attractiveness of both premium land transport modes along the Surabaya–Jakarta corridor.

Abstract

Electricity is a basic necessity in daily life. The 3.55% increase in electricity distribution to Indonesian households has driven people to seek alternative clean energy sources, considering that the majority of energy comes from fossil fuels with high carbon emissions. The government-owned electric power provider has begun to face high levels of complaints, prompting a review of service quality by Law No. 20 of 2002. This study employs a questionnaire method, processed using the Kano model, to analyze the performance of service quality variables provided by a government-owned electric power provider. Based on the Kano analysis, three categories of attributes need to be considered to improve customer satisfaction: One-Dimensional (must be prioritized), Attractive (needs to be maintained), and Indifferent (less attention needed). The one dimensional attributes involve power quality, output stability, service satisfaction, responsiveness during disturbances, service usage costs, and frequency of power disturbances. The better and worse assessments indicate that output stability, electricity costs, and responsiveness during disturbances have a significant impact on increasing customer satisfaction, while their inadequacy in these attributes can lead to a significant decrease in satisfaction.

Abstract

Small and middle enterprises  have been the important part of the economic of a nation or a local. Karang Write-Batik is one industrial center which is located at Karang Village, Semanding Subdistrict, Tuban District. Early observation shows that various processes within the production of Write-Batik are conducted without considering ergonomic aspects, such as work method and work facility. It may result in complaint and even muscle injury which is called Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD’s) Many pronlem of pain perceived by workers are caused by less ergonomic work position or work posture. It may also be evident because the less correspondence between work equipment and workers’ anthropometry size. To measure workers’ musculoskeletal injured, the author uses Standard Nordic Questionnaire (SNQ) and to assess work posture, Quick Exposure Check (QEC) is used. The reduction of workers’ musculoskeletal injuredt can be realized by improving work facility based on workers’ anthropometry size. Result of early measurement of exposure level of several parts of body indicates that the exposure level of the back is 26, while that of the arm is 30, that of the hand wrist is 26, and that of the neck is 16. After the improvement of work facility, workers’ complaint is reduced and so is exposure level. The exposure level with the improved work facility is shown as follows: the exposure level of the back is 22, while that of the arm is 22, that of the hand wrist is 22 and that of the neck is 14.
