Abstract

Retention is the key to the success of a learning program. Several studies have shown that retention can be influenced by metacognitive skills, critical thinking, cognitive learning outcomes, and applied learning models. Meanwhile, testing the relationship between the three factors mentioned above and retention is only done using simple and multiple regression with two factors. This correlational study was conducted to determine the relationship between three factors, namely metacognitive skills, critical thinking, and cognitive learning outcomes on retention in students taught by RQA and QASEE learning models, as well as conventional learning. A total of 107 pre-service teachers of Biology Education students in South Sumatra, Indonesia, were involved in this study. The results showed a relationship between metacognitive skills, critical thinking, and cognitive learning outcomes with retention in students who were taught the RQA learning model. However, in the QASEE learning model and conventional learning, this relationship was not found. Thus, it can be concluded that more than two factors affect retention. Then, applying the appropriate learning model also influences the success of a learning program. Finally, conventional learning that only emphasizes efforts to get students to pass the exam must be abandoned immediately.

Abstract

Safitri R, Riswanda J, Armanda F. 2020. Monitoring of  heavy metal polution the lead (Pb) with bio indicator baung fish (Hemibagrus nemurus) at the Musi River of South Sumatra. Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal : Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(2): 127-138.The high activity of the community in the musi river waters could affect the quality of river water, and can even caused water pollution and aquatic biota including fish baung (Hemibagrus nemurus) by lead heavy metals (Pb). This study aimed to determine the lead (Pb) heavy metal content of baung fish (H. nemurus) catches of fishermen in the musi river waters of palembang city. This research was conducted in May-June 2019. The method used is quantitative descriptive. The sample of this research is the meat, skin, liver, kidney and gill of baung fish (H. nemurus) which are tested for lead (Pb) heavy metal content using aas (atomic absorption spectrophotometry). The results of this study indicated that the concentration of heavy metal the lead (Pb) in fish baung (H. nemurus) in the waters of the musi river on the average meat of 0.046 mg/kg, on the skin of 0.058 mg/kg, in the liver of 0.1516 mg/kg, in the kidney at 0.2513 mg/kg, and in the gills at 0.2216 mg/kg. The Pb concentration on the meat, skin and liver samples were still below the established quality standards so that they were still suitable for consumption while the kidney and fish gill samples are above the quality standards that have been set based on the regulations of the Regulations Drug and Food Control Agency (DFCA) number 5 of 2018 which is equal to 0.20 mg/kg.

Abstract

Medicinal plants are plants that can be used for the treatment of diseases with active ingredientscontained in them. Identification of medicinal plants needs to be done because of the variety ofmedicinal plants currently available. This study aims to find out which plants are used as medicine, which parts of the plant are used and how to manage and diseases that can be cured by medicinalplants in Talang Kelapa District. This research is descriptive qualitative with quota samplingtechniques and triangulation techniques as well as data analysis techniques modeled by Miles andHuberman. The results of identification studies in Talang Kelapa District were obtained by 38species from 22 families of medicinal plants. The most used part is leaves, besides the roots, stems, flowers, fruits, rhizomes, sap, tubers and all parts. Some diseases that can be cured by these plantsinclude diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, fever, diarrhea, itching, canker sores and eliminatemenstrual pain which is processed by mashing then smeared, dripped, dried and pasted, brewedand consumed directly as a vegetable, vegetables or other food mixes. But the management methodthat is in great demand is boiled.

Abstract

Community in the 21st was faced with a number of challenges, one of which was environmental problems and how to survive in the 21st century. For this reason, there were two important things to be developed, namely an environmentally caring attitude and an interest in entrepreneurship. The development of both should be facilitated by lectures on Environmental Knowledge. This research is intended to analyze the environmental care attitude and interest in student entrepreneurship. The research method used was descriptive qualitative and data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The results of this study are 1) The attitude of caring for the student's environment needs to be improved; 2) The interest in student entrepreneurship is very high so it needs to be facilitated through learning that invites students to practice the skills that have been taught. The results of this study are expected to be a foothold in how to develop learning to support the development of environmental awareness and interest in student entrepreneurship.

Abstract

The learning model with an approach that can be used to achieve cognitive success is by using the PBL model with the STEM approach. This study aims to determine the effect of the PBL model with the STEM approach on the cognitive competence of students in the digestive system material for class XI in SMA / MA. This research was conducted from January to February 2021. The method in this study was a real-time experiment or pre-experimental one group pre-test - post-test design. Pre - experimental one group pre-test - post-test design. The population in this study were students of class XI. The sample in the study consisted of 18 students who were an experimental class taken using test techniques. The test technique here is an objective test, namely multiple choice and essays or questions about this technique will be carried out before and after the research (pretest and posttest). The data in this study were obtained from a number of quantitative data, namely the cognitive aspects obtained from the pre-test and post-test scores. After the data has been obtained, the next step is to analyze the data. This can be seen from the results of the t-test used to calculate the hypothesis and test the level of effectiveness. The results showed that the PBL model with the STEM approach showed differences in the cognitive competences of students. This can be proven by the 2 tailed significance value is 0.000, which is less than 0.05, which means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Data analysis techniques can be proven by the results of the N-gain test value. This can be proven by the difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental class, namely 46.5 - 65.3 = 33.67%. Conclusion. That the PBL learning model with the STEM approach has an effect on the results of students' cognitive competencies is acceptable. This can be proven by the normality, homogeneity, t-test and N-gain test. The effect of the application of PBL model learning with the STEM approach is a moderate criterion.

Abstract

Biolarvicide is the larvicide derived from plants and relatively safe. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of pletekan leaf powder (Ruellia tuberosa), mimosa (Mimosa pudica), papaya (Carica papaya), and guava (Psidium guajava) on Culex quiquefasciatus larval mortality. The method was an experimental with a completely randomized design consisted of 5 treatments (0 gr, 0,25 gr, 0,5 gr, 0,75 gr, and 1 gr) and 5 repetitions for each plant. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance. Based on the results, leaf powder used in the study, namely guava leaves powder (1 gr), mimosa (1 gr), leaves of pletekan (1 gr), and leaves of papaya (1 gr) showed a very significant effect (P < 0,05) on Culex quiquefasciatus larval mortality. It can be concluded that the pletekan, mimosa, papaya, and guava had the potential as biolarvicide of Culex quinquefasciatus.

Abstract

PBL is a teaching method that can help students understand the subject matter and improve their problem-solving abilities. The purpose of this study is to see how the problem-based learning (PBL) model affects students' problem-solving abilities with reproductive system material. This is a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Non-probability sampling is used, along with total sampling. The research sample consisted of 39 students from Class XI. The data collection technique used pretest and posttest instruments, and the data analysis technique used was the One-Sample KS Test, with an average pretest result of 23.08 with a significance of 0.00, a posttest average of 85.18 with a significance of 0.03, and an average N-Gain of 0.81 with a significance of 0.01 as evidenced by statistical analysis, which states that the data significance is 0.05, indicating that Problem Based Learning has an effect.
