Abstract

Traditional agroforestry systems (TAFS) are longstanding practices characterized by the absence of intentional agricultural intensification. In Aceh, Indonesia, a specific type of TAFS known as "lampoh" is practiced, representing a multispecies agroforestry system deeply rooted in Acehnese culture. This study aimed to identify the plant species found in traditional agroforestry gardens in Aceh Besar and explore their utilization by the local community. The study was conducted in three villages within the Simpang Tiga District of Aceh Besar, utilizing primary and secondary data collection methods. Direct observations and interviews with community members were employed to identify plant species and gather insights into Historis and present practices. The study revealed a traditional multistory agroforestry system, Lampoh, consisting of diverse tree species and perennial plants. Interviews identified 24 Historisly and currently cultivated and utilized plant species, with some species no longer present in the agroforestry gardens of the studied villages. The decrease in agroforestry garden utilization was attributed to shifts in primary income sources, modernization, and urbanization, which provided alternative livelihoods and preferences. To ensure the sustainability of agroforestry practices, efforts should integrate agroforestry into evolving livelihood systems, raise awareness about its importance, and improve market access, taking into account the changing economic landscape and community preferences. This will help preserve the contributions of agroforestry to food security, ecological diversity, and economic well-being.

Abstract

Brain is an organ to control our activities, such as human consciousness, emotional, and movement. It was controlled by amygdala and cerebral cortex as the parts of the brain. Many things that can bring over it. Bee venom (BV) is known as traditional medicine and probably can sway the brain. The objective of this study was to determine the dose of BV that causes excessive neuronal cells death, especially in the amygdala and cerebral cortex. About 15 white male mice Deutsch Denken Yoken (DDY) strain were divided into control group and the treatment group. BV was administrated intraperitoneally for two weeks with multilevel doses, that was 1.88 mg/kg, 3.76 mg/kg, 5.6 mg/kg, and 7.48 mg/kg. Brain tissue isolation was performed three days of the last administration by using perfusion method. Morphological sectioned of brain tissue (amygdala and brain cortex) was stained by hematoxylin-eosin (HE). The results indicated that the BV inclined to affect neuronal cells death in the amygdala and cerebral cortex. Based on the study, the highest doses (7.48 mg/kg) of BV caused the highest neuronal cell death.

Abstract

The large demand for catfish consumption is the main goal of catfish cultivation in Paya Bujok Seuleumak Village to improve the economy of the village community. The location is also very supportive for fish cultivation because the location distance is not too far from the city and the people are creative in entrepreneurship. The problems that are often faced by cultivator is pond waterflow when entering the rainy season due to an increase in water discharge. This situation caused many fish come out of the pond. Besides, fish feed residue and fish waste can also interfere with pond water quality that trigger many fish die which can cause harvest failure. The solution offered is implementing a gravity system pool tarpaulin drain which can maintain pool water discharge and pool water quality, so that it can keep fish in the pond and stay healthy if there is an increase in pool water discharge. The output target to be achieved are article publication in the National Journal, publication in online and print mass media, products of a gravity system pool tarpaulin drain device and HaKI. There are also additional outputs in the form of increasing fish yields and improving the economy of the communities. The service activity plan consists of coordinating with cultivator, socialization, training on the application of the tarpaulin drain gravity pool system, as well as mentoring and monitoring of the activities carried out.

Abstract

Identification is part of the classification of living things. The classification of living things is the formation of groups of various types of animals and plants on earth so that the taxa are arranged in an orderly manner following a hierarchy. The traits or characteristics that are the basis for classification vary depending on the goals to be achieved. One of the characters that can be used as a basic criterion for classifying avifauna is morphological characters. This research aims to determine the avivauna species in the Mount Dempo area, Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra. This research is descriptive qualitative in nature. The sampling technique is quota sampling and the Miles and Huberman model data analysis technique. The results of identification research in the Mount Dempo area obtained 21 types of avifauna (birds) in the Mount Dempo area, Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra Province, and 9 types that were not identified from interviews with local residents. The diversity index of avifauna (bird) species in the Mount Dempo area, Pagar Alam City, South Sumatra Province is 2.67753, which means that the diversity of avifauna (bird) species is moderate.

Abstract

Forestry research is crucial for forest conservation, sustainable resource utilization, informing policy, promoting development, and enhancing ecosystem understanding. This research is vital for creating policies that ensure forest conservation and support local livelihoods, especially as forests face depletion and degradation threats. Aceh, which contains the largest remaining forests in Sumatra, plays a crucial role in both local and global conservation. Therefore, understanding Aceh’s forest conservation research is the first step to improve conservation practices. This study employs a bibliometric analysis of forest conservation research in Aceh, using Bibliometrix and Biblioshiny to analyze trends. A total of 354 relevant articles were identified using the Scopus database. The analysis shows publication patterns, including document types, article sources, and research affiliations with Syiah Kuala University being the primary contributor. The study also examined the knowledge structure through keyword frequency, trends, and keyword co-occurrences. Results show peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers as the main publication types, with an increase in publications after 2005, coinciding with Aceh’s post-war political stabilization. Keywords, i.e. ‘forestry’, ‘conservation’, ‘fisheries’, and ‘ecosystem’ were found important. Topic trends revealed interest in forest management, ecosystem services, and disaster-related terms at post-2004 tsunami. Co-occurrence network analysis identified six main keyword clusters, i.e. biodiversity, conservation, land use and land cover change, and sustainable development.

Abstract

The Leuser Ecosystem Area is an ecosystem area protected which contains a variety of biodiversity, most importantly endemic animals such as orangutans, Sumatran rhinos, Sumatran tigers and Sumatran elephants. Serbajadi District, East Aceh Regency is an area included in the Leuser Ecosystem area where cases of conflict between humans and wild animals often occur, such as damage to residents' plantations and agricultural areas by wild animals and even cases of death of wild animals and humans. This community service activity related to awareness of wildlife habitat conservation is carried out with the aim of providing an early understanding of the importance of understanding conservation of wild animal habitats from an early age through learning media with Android-based animation. The method used in this activity is Participatory Action Research. This activity was carried out in a participatory manner between the school as a partner, non-governmental organizations as sources of data on wildlife conflict cases, and the service team. Learning media in the form of Android-based animations is presented based on conditions occurring in society related to wildlife habitat conservation and solutions to problems that arise.  The results of this activity are through Android-based animation media that is appropriate to the age level of students so that early awareness emerges within students of the importance of conservation of wild animal habitats as part of efforts to resolve frequent cases of conflict between wild animals and humans occurred in that area.
