This community service program aims to improve students’ interests and attitudes toward English language learning and promote environmental awareness, especially in reusing plastic bottles to minimize microplastic trash. The community service program is a seminar with an interactive lecture method, a Games Tournament, and a project-based learning method. To measure students’ interest and attitude toward English language learning, they are requested to fill out the questionnaire before and after the activity to see how it changes. The questionnaire results showed a significant improvement in students’ interests and attitudes to English language learning, which is caused by environmental and psychological change. Students are believed to be more encouraging in the activity because they feel safe to express their idea in class after having their awareness of the learning process raised. Therefore, a fun circumstance and safe atmosphere are keys to success in learning English.

Abstract

Environmental crises are increasingly mediated through global media platforms, shaping public perception and ecological awareness. National Geographic, as a prominent environmental outlet, plays a key role in constructing narratives around ecological issues. However, the linguistic strategies it employs—particularly evaluative language—remain underexplored. This study aims to investigate the evaluation of LA Wildfire in National Geographic Magazine through an ecolinguistic framework. The study is designed as qualitative research with a content analysis approach, which analyzed four articles discussing LA Wildfire 2025 in the National Geographic Magazine in the Environmental Section. The analysis focuses on appraisal patterns which cover three aspects: attitude, engagement, and graduation where each aspects has their sub categories which makes this analysis detailed.  The findings reveal a dominant use of appreciation and judgment to evoke urgency and moral responsibility, while affect is comparatively minimized. Salience patterns foreground scientific authority and global impact, often marginalizing local ecological voices. Metaphors such as “tipping point” and “planetary fever” reinforce crisis framing but risk oversimplifying complex ecological dynamics. This study contributes to ecolinguistics by demonstrating how evaluative language in environmental media can both amplify ecological concern and obscure systemic causes, highlighting the need for more reflexive and inclusive environmental storytelling.

The data of the research itself were the words, phrases and sentences uttered by an Asperger’s Syndrome and contained speech errors in the English language. The data analysis was done by using Miles and Huberman analysis stages which is data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing or verification. The results of the research showed the types of speech errors uttered by an Asperger’s Syndrome based on Clark & Clark’s theory found are silent pause, filled pause, repeats, false start (retraced), stutter and interjections. There are no types of speech errors; false start (unretraced), corrections and slip of tongue. It is because people with Asperger syndrome had a lack of cohesion to conversation and repetitive patterns of speech as their speech characteristic. Meanwhile false start (unretraced) and corrections contain an explicit “I mean”, “or rather”, “that is” and without repeating the word in their utterances. The influencing factors of speech errors towards Asperger’s Syndrome are cognitive difficulty and social factors (situational anxiety and social circumstances). Keywords: Speech Error, Asperger’s Syndrome, Influential Factors

Abstract

Lexical diversity is one of the language tools to measure varied words or vocabulary produced by learners in a text both spoken and written. This research aims to investigate the lexical diversity of children narratives produced by children orally. The research design of this research was a case study supported by quantitative data. Meanwhile, the subjects of this research are seven children around 6-9 years old. In collecting data, the researchers employed narrative storytelling based on a picture which is drawn by the subjects. In analyzing data, TTR (Type-Token -Ratio) was used to measure the lexical diversity gained from the subject while the theory was used to explain the phenomena. Based on the findings, it is found that (1) older children have higher lexical diversity than the younger ones, (2) younger children produced higher lexical frequency (word tokens) than the older ones (3) individual variations caused an anomaly of the result in which older children were expected to have higher lexical frequency but the result showed the reverse. Keywords: Lexical Diversity, Children, Oral Narratives, Case Study.
