Abstract

Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan jenis kepiting yang banyak ditemukan di beberapa daerah, salah satunya di Perairan Desa Bandengan, Kendal. Kepiting bakau setiap harinya ditangkap oleh nelayan, keadaan ini dapat mempengaruhi terhadap populasi kepiting bakau. Fase bulan dapat memberikan pengaruh terhadap kepiting bakau, seperti pada tingkah laku kepiting bakau. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pola pertumbuhan kepiting bakau pada  fase bulan mati dan purnama di Perairan Desa Bandengan Kendal. Metode yang digunakan yaitu bersifat deskriptif eksploratif. Pengambilan data dilakukan sebanyak 6 kali periode pada 28 Desember 2019 – 9 Maret 2020, data dari kepiting bakau meliputi panjang karapas, lebar karapas, berat tubuh, jumlah kepiting bakau, dan parameter perairan. Jumlah kepiting bakau yang diperoleh selama penelitian sebanyak 212 ekor bulan mati dan 236 ekor bulan purnama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pola pertumbuhan kepiting bakau jantan bulan mati bersifat allometrik positif, sedangkan pada kepiting bakau betina bersifat allometrik negatif. Sedangkan, pada purnama 1 bersifat allometrik positif, bulan purnama 2 dan  bulan purnama 3 bersifat allometrik negatif, sedangkan kepiting bakau betina bersifat allometrik negatif. Mud crab (Scylla serrata) is a type of crab that is found in several areas, one of which is in the waters of Bandengan Village, Kendal. Every day mud crabs are caught by fishermen, this situation can affect the mangrove crab population. The moon phase can affect mud crabs, such as the behavior of mud crabs. The purpose of this study was to determine the growth pattern of mud crabs in the new moon and full moon phases in the waters of the village of Bandengan, Kendal. The method used is descriptive exploratory. Data collection was carried out 6 times during the period on 28 December 2019 - 9 March 2020, data from mud crabs included carapace length, carapace width, body weight, number of mangrove crabs, and water parameters. The number of mud crabs obtained during the study was 212 new moons and 236 full moons. The results showed that the growth pattern of male mud crabs in the new moon was positive allometric, while the female mud crabs were negative allometric. Meanwhile, full moon 1 is allometric positive, full moon 2, and full moon 3 allometric negatives, while female mud crabs are allometric negative.

Abstract

Fase bulan secara periodik mengalami perubahan dan menjadi faktor yang mempengaruhi perairan secara fisika, kimia, maupun biologi. Kondisi tersebut di wilayah perairan laut menimbulkan fenomena pasang surut yang memiliki pengaruh besar terhadap kehidupan biota laut seperti rajungan (Portunus pelagicus). Strategi penangkapan yang tepat dapat dilakukan dengan menentukan target satu spesies atau dengan cara melihat fase bulan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan kajian morfometri, nisbah kelamin, hubungan lebar berat, dan tingkat kematangan gonad rajungan (Portunus pelagicus) yang tertangkap nelayan pada fase bulan purnama dan bulan mati dari Perairan Desa Tunggulsari, Rembang. Pengambilan data dilakukan terhadap rajungan (Portunus pelagicus) yang tertangkap oleh nelayan dari perairan Desa Tunggulsari. Kegiatan penelitian dilakukan pada tanggal 9 Januari 2020, 28 Januari 2020, 10 Februari 2020, 25 Februari 2020, 10 Maret 2020, dan 24 Maret 2020. Hasil penelitian berdasarkan uji T statistik menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan komposisi rajungan dari fase bulan purnama dan bulan mati dengan selisih yang tidak signifikan. Rajungan yang tertangkap pada fase bulan purnama memiliki rata-rata ukuran berat dan lebar yang lebih kecil dibandingkan pada fase bulan mati. Analisis power curve hubungan lebar dan berat rajungan yang ada di perairan Desa Tunggulsari bersifat allometrik negatif yang berarti pertumbuhan lebar karapas lebih cepat dibandingkan beratnya.  The lunar phase periodically changes and becomes a factor that affects the waters physically, chemically, and biologically. These conditions in the marine waters cause tidal phenomena which have a major influence on marine life such as blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus). The right fishing strategy can be done by determining the target of one species or by looking at the phases of the moon. This study aims to study the morphometry, sex ratio, weight-width relationship, and maturity level of the crab gonads (Portunus pelagicus) caught by fishermen in the full moon and new moon phases of the Tunggulsari Waters, Rembang. The method used in this research is descriptive exploratory. Research activities were carried out on January 9, 2020, January 28, 2020, February 10, 2020, February 25, 2020, March 10, 2020, and March 24, 2020. The results of the study based on the statistical T test showed that there was an insignificant difference in the catch of the full moon and new moon phases. The crabs that are caught in the full moon phase have an average size of weight and width that is smaller than in the new moon phase. Analysis of the relationship between the width and weight of small crabs in the waters of Tunggulsari Waters is negative allometric, which means that the carapace width grows faster than its weight.

Abstract

 ABSTRAK: Pelabuhan Tanjung Mas adalah sebuah pelabuhan yang mengalami berbagai aktivitas seperti bongkar muat, aktivitas pelayaran, kapal bersandar dan lain-lain. Aktivitas antropogenik yang ada di area pelabuhan umumnya menyebabkan banyaknya jumlah minyak solar yang tumpah ke laut dan kemudian terakumulasi ke dalam sedimen dalam jangka waktu yang panjang. Jika hal ini terus terjadi maka akan mengganggu kehidupan biota demersal dan ekosistem di Pelabuhan Tanjung Mas. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan upaya biodegradasi minyak solar menggunakan bakteri  yang ramah lingkungan dan tepat. Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan yaitu mendapatkan isolat bakteri sedimen yang mampu mendegradasi minyak solar dan mengetahui tingkat kemampuan isolat bakteri untuk mendegradasi minyak solar. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli sampai dengan Oktober 2019 dengan metode purpossive sampling, metode pour plate, metode gravimetri dan Standard Plate Count. Bakteri isolat yang didapat dari hasil isolasi sedimen kemudian diseleksi kembali menggunakan media SMSSe dan prosentase minyak solar 2%. Pada seleksi awal dengan prosentase minyak solar 2% didapatkan 2 isolat bakteri yang mampu tumbah baik pada media SMSSe dan 2% prosentase minyak solar, yaitu bakteri dengan kode isolat ISL 2 dan ISL 3. Kedua isolat bakteri hasil seleksi awal kemudian diidentifikasi dengan uji molekuler. Hasil dari uji molekuler menyatakan bahwa kedua isolat bakteri dengan kode ISL 2 dan ISL 3 berasal dari spesies yang sama, yaitu Vibrio alginolyticus. Isolat bakteri Vibrio alginlyticus yang didapat kemudian diuji daya degradasinya dengan menggunakan 2 prosentase minyak solar yang berbeda, yaitu prosentase 5% dan 10% dengan 2 pengulangan. Pada hasil uji degradasi menyatakan bahwa bakteri Vibrio alginolyticus dapat mendegradasi minyak solar yang ditambahkan pada media SMSSe. Bakteri Vibrio alginolyticus hasil isolasi mampu mendegradasi minyak solar hingga 0,8085 mL (80,85%) pada prosentase awal 10% minyak solar (1 mL) dengan periode 14 hari (H14). ABSTRACT: Tanjung Mas Port is a port that experiences a variety of activities such as loading and unloading, shipping activities, leaning ships, and others. Generally, anthropogenic activity in the port area causes large amounts of diesel oil that spills into the sea and then accumulates into the sediment over a long period. If this continues, it will disrupt the lives of demersal biota and the ecosystem in Tanjung Mas Harbor. Therefore, it is necessary to do biodegradation of diesel oil using environmentally friendly and appropriate bacteria. The purpose of this study was to obtain bacterial sediment isolates that can degrade diesel oil and determine the ability of bacterial isolates to degrade diesel oil. This research was conducted from July to October 2019 using the purposive sampling method, pour plate method, gravimetric method, and Standard Plate Count. Bacteria isolates obtained from the results of sediment isolation were then reselected using SMSSe media and a percentage of 2% diesel oil. In the initial selection with a percentage of 2% diesel oil, 2 bacterial isolates were able to grow well on SMSSe media and 2% percentage of diesel oil, namely bacteria with isolate code ISL 2 and ISL 3. The two bacterial isolates from the initial selection were identified by molecular testing. The results of the molecular test stated that the two bacterial isolates with the code ISL 2 and ISL 3 came from the same species, namely Vibrio alginolyticus. The Vibrio alginolyticus bacterial isolate obtained was then tested for its degradation power using 2 different percentages of diesel oil, namely 5% and 10% with 2 repetitions. The results of the degradation test stated that the Vibrio alginolyticus bacteria could degrade the diesel oil added to the SMSSe medium. The isolated Vibrio alginolyticus bacteria can degrade diesel oil up to 0.8085 mL (80.85%) at the initial percentage of 10% diesel oil (1 mL) with a period of 14 days (H14).

Abstract

Abstrak: Garam rebus diproduksi dengan cara merebus air laut atau larusan garam laut. Garam laut merupakan bahan alami yang dapat digunakan untuk perawatan kulit. Untuk itu kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mensosialisasikan produk perawatan kulit berbahan dasar garam rebus. Mitra kegiatan adalah Usaha Kecil Mekarsari, yang berlokasi di Desa Kaliwlingi Brebes. Kegiatan dimulai dengan tahap persiapan dimana dilakukan penyusunan leaflet, pembuatan contoh produk dan koordinasi dengan Mitra. Pelaksanaan kegiatan sosialisasi produksi produk perawatan kulit berbahan dasar garam rebus dilakukan dengan peserta terbatas, dilanjutkan dengan perkenalan bahan-bahan baku, praktek bersama dengan Tim Pengabdi dan praktek mandiri oleh Mitra. Kegiatan ini Mitra telah menghasilkan produk perawatan kulit berbahan dasar garam rebus, yaitu Bath Salt, Toner, Scrub/Lulur, Honey Mask, Traditional mask, dan Spirulina Salt Mask. Monitoring dan evaluasi kegiatan menunjukkan ada peningkatan pengetahuan berupa jawaban benar sebanyak 70%. Memperhatikan antusiasme Mitra, kegiatan ini dapat dilanjutkan dalam program pengembangan produk, yaitu pengemasan dan produksi yang higienis serta sosialisasi produk ke masyarakat untuk memperluas pasar.  Abstract: Boiled salt is produced by boiling sea water or a saturated sea salt solution. Sea salt is a natural ingredient, can be used for skin care. Therefore, this activity aims to socialize skin care products made from boiled salt. The activity partner is the Mekarsari Small Business, located in the Kaliwlingi Village, Brebes. The activity begins with the preparation of leaflets, product samples are made and did coordination with partners. The socialization of the production of skin care products made from boiled salt was carried out with a limited number of participants, followed by the introduction of raw materials, joint practice with the Team and independent practice by partners. In this activity, Mekarsari is able to produce Bath Salt, Toner, Scrub, Honey Mask, Traditional mask, and Spirulina Salt Mask. Monitoring and evaluation of activities showed a 70% increase in knowledge in the form of correct answers. The enthusiasm of Partners, revealed that this activity can be continued in product development programs, such as hygienic packaging and production as well as product socialization to the public to expand the market.

Abstract

Fitoplankton dapat digunakan sebagai bioindikator kualitas perairan. Struktur komunitas fitoplankton peka terhadap perubahan lingkungan perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas fitoplankton dan kondisi kualitas air di Perairan Paciran, Lamongan. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif eksploratif yang di olah dengan Principle Component Analysis (PCA). Penentuan lokasi dilakukan dengan purposive sampling method yang terdiri dari 4 stasiun, yaitu area dermaga nelayan, ekosistem mangrove, TPI Weru dan marine shipbuilding. Komposisi jenis fitoplankton di Perairan Paciran, Lamongan ditemukan 24 genus fitoplankton dari 4 kelas yaitu Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Bacillariophyceae dan Cyanophyceae. Genus yang paling umum dijumpai adalah Skeletonema. Kelimpahan fitoplankton rata-rata berkisar 41,44 – 116,56 sel/L. Indeks keanekaragaman dan keseragaman termasuk kategori sedang berkisar 1,04 – 3,33 dan 0,33 – 1,05. Indeks dominasi termasuk kategori rendah berkisar 0,01 – 0,15. Hasil kelimpahan fitoplankton di Perairan Paciran, Lamongan berkorelasi positif dengan oksigen terlarut, fosfat, nitrat, salinitas, dan suhu. Sedangkan pH dan arus menunjukkan adanya korelasi negatif. Phytoplankton can be used as a bioindicator of water quality. The structure of the phytoplankton community is sensitive to changes in the aquatic environment. This study aims to determine the structure of the phytoplankton community and the condition of water quality in Paciran waters, Lamongan. The method used in this research is descriptive exploratory which is processed by Principle Component Analysis (PCA). Determination of the location is done by purposive sampling method which consists of 4 stations, namely the fishing pier area, mangrove ecosystem, TPI Weru and marine shipbuilding. The composition of phytoplankton species in Paciran waters, Lamongan found 24 phytoplankton genera from 4 classes, namely Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Bacillariophyceae and Cyanophyceae. The most common genus is Skeletonema. The abundance of phytoplankton on average ranged from 41.44 to 116.56 cells/L. The index of diversity and uniformity was included in the medium category ranging from 1.04 to 3.33 and 0.33 to 1.05. The dominance index is included in the low category ranging from 0.01 to 0.15. The results of the abundance of phytoplankton in Paciran Waters, Lamongan have a positive correlation with dissolved oxygen, phosphate, nitrate, salinity, and temperature. Meanwhile, pH and current show a negative correlation.

Abstract

Indonoor adalah sebuah kapal yang karam di tubir Pulau Kemujan, Kepulauan Karimunjawa tahun 1960. Sering berjalannya waktu, dinding bangkai kapal Indonoor ditumbuhi oleh berbagai macam terumbu karang. Hal ini menjadikan lokasi bangkai kapal Indonoor membentuk suatu ekosistem terumbu karang yang memiliki potensi besar dalam bidang pariwisata dan perikanan dan sekarang merupakan salah satu dive point penting di Karimunjawa.  Dengan adanya terumbu karang yang hidup pada dinding dan badan kapal yang terbuat dari  besi, memungkinkan adanya berbagai jenis biota yang berasosiasi dengan terumbu karang di bagkai kapal tersebut, salah satunya adalah Echinodermata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman jenis fauna echinodermata pada di bangkai kapal Indonoor. Pengamatan fauna echinodermnata dilakukan dengan penyelaman dan pengamatan pada 4 bagian patahan bangkai kapal 2005 dan September 2006 menggunakan metoda sensus dengan modifikasi line transect dan kuadrat transect. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 12 spesies dari 4 kelas Echinodermata pada penelitian tahun 2005 yaitu Acanthaster plancii, Fromia nomilis, Linckia laevigata dari kelas Asteroidea; Comanthina sp, Comanthus sp, Stephanometra sp dari kelas Crinoidea; Diadema setosum, Diadema savignyi, Echinometra mathei dari kelas Echinoidea; Holothuria atra, Holothuria edulis, Stychopus ananas dari kelas Holothuroidea. Sedangkan pada pengamatan tahun 2006 ditemukan sebanyak 13 spesies dari 4 kelas yaitu Culcita novaguinae, Fromia nomilis, Linckia laevigata dari kelas Asteroidea; Comanthina sp, Comanthus sp, Stephanometra sp dari kelas Crinoidea; Diadema setosum, Diadema savignyi, Echinometra mathei, Echinotrix calamaris dari kelas Echinoidea; Holothuria atra, Holothuria edulis, Stychopus ananas dari kelas Holothuroidea. Kata kunci: echinodermata, Indonoor wreck, P. Kemujan, Karimunjawa.  Indonoor is a ship sunk in a reef slope of Kemujan Island, Karimunjawa Islands back in 1960. Since that the wreck was covered by coral reef and home of many reef associated marine fauna, and lately becoming most visited dive point in Karimunjawa for tourism purposes. Among many marine fauna lives on the wreck is echinoderm which is interested to be studied especially on its diversity. A modified line intercept and quadrate transect method was applied for the study in four parts of the shipwreck in May-June 2005 and September 2006. The result showed that at least 12 species of 4 classes of echinoderm was found in the 2005 sampling period i.e.: Acanthaster plancii, Fromia nomilis, Linckia laevigata (class Asteroidea); Comanthina sp, Comanthus sp, Stephanometra sp (class Crinoidea); Diadema setosum, Diadema savignyi, Echinometra mathei (class Echinoidea); Holothuria atra, Holothuria edulis, Stychopus ananas (class Holothuroidea). Abstract

Diatom bentik mempunyai peranan penting sebagai produsen primer dalam siklus karbon di rantai makanan estuaria, sebagai sumber makanan yang penting bagi hewan-hewan surface dwellers (merayap di permukaan) dan deposit feeder, juga berperan penting dalam stabilisasi sediment. Penelitian telah dilakukan di Muara Sungai Comal Baru Desa Mojo, Kecamatan Comal, Kabupaten Pemalang pada bulan Jamuari-Maret 2006 dengan tujuan menganalisa komposisi genus dan kelimpahannya. Sampel sedimen diambil menggunakan core sampler dengan ketebalan 1 cm pada enam stasiun berdasarkan jaraknya dengan laut.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa di Muara Sungai Comal Baru telah ditemukan 20 genus diatom bentik yang termasuk dalam 17 famili dengan ordo Pennales lebih banyak dari pada centrales.  Jumlah genus dan kelimpahan total diatom bentik pada bulan Maret lebih tinggi daripada bulan Januari dan Februari karena pengaruh lingkungan antara lain kandungan bahan organik, nutrient  dan curah hujan.Kata kunci: Diatom bentik, kelimpahan, komposisi genus, Sungai Comal Baru Benthic Diatom play important role as primer producer in carbon cycle of estuarine food web, as food source for surface dwellers and deposit feeder as well as as sediment stabliziation. The objectives of this present work was to analize genera composition and abundance of benthic diatom. The work had been carried out in mouth of Comal Baru River, Mojo-Comal, Pemalang during January-March 2006. Benthic diatom in 1 cm depth sediment were taken with core sampler in six stations according to the distance from the beach.  The results showed that twenty genera od benthic diatom belongs to 17 family were found in mouth in mouth of Comal Baru River, Mojo-Comal in which order of penalles more than cenytrales.  The number of genera and their abundance were greater in March than January and February because of environment such a organic matter, nutrient and rainfall. Abstract

Fosfat dan nitrat mempunyai peranan penting dalam pertumbuhan dan kandungan nutrisi Nannochloropsis oculata. Kandungan lipid total dalam Nannochloropsis oculata sangat dipengaruhi oleh nutrien yang terkandung dalam media kultur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh  perbedaan komposisi nutrien fosfat dan nitrat  terhadap kandungan lipid total  mikroalga Nannochloropsis oculata. Anova satu arah dengan 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan diterapkan pada penelitian ini.  Pelakuan perbedaan komposisi fosfat dan nitrat yaitu Kontrol (K, fosfat dalam NaH2PO4 20 g dan nitrat dalam NaNO3 100 g),  fosfat dan nitrat 75 % dari kontrol (A), fosfat dan nitrat 50 % dari kontrol (B), serta fosfat dan nitrat 25 % dari kontrol (C).  Pemanenan mikroalga untuk analisa  total  lipid  dilakukan  pada  fase  eksponensial  dan  stasioner.  Duaratus  limapuluh  mililiter  media bersalinitas 35 ‰ digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan sistem aerasi dan pencahayaan 3000 lux yang kontinyu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan komposisi nutrien (fosfat dan nitrat) pada media pemeliharaan  berpengaruh  terhadap  kandungan  lipid  total  pada  fase  stasioner  namun tidak pada  fase eksponensial. Kandungan total lipid terbesar 67,7 % dw ditemukan pada N. oculata yang dikultur pada media dengan fosfat dan nitrat 25 % dari kontrol dan yang terkecil 39,3 %-dw pada N. oculata yang dikultur pada nutrien Kontrol.  Pembatasan nutrien pada media pemeliharaan dapat meningkatkan kandungan lipid total pada kultur  N. oculata Kata kunci: Nannochloropsis oculata, Total Lipid, fosfat, nitrat Phosphate and nitrate play  important role on growth and nutrition value of Nannochloropsis oculata.  Total lipid content of microalgae Nannochloropsis oculata is influenced by nutrient content in the culture medium. This research was aimed to examine the effect of different depletion phosphate and nitrate composition on the total lipid of  Nannochloropsis oculata.  Anova One Way with 4 treatments and 3 replicates has been applied in this research. The treatment of differences phosphate and Nitrate composition as follows Nutrient control (Conway medium having  Phospate in NaH2PO4 20 g and Nitrate in NaNO3 100 g), Nutrient A (phosphate and nitrate 75 % nutrient control); Nutrient B (phosphate and nitrate 50 % nutrient control), Nutrient C (phosphate and nitrate 25% nutrient control) The volume of culture medium was 250 mL with salinity 35‰, continuous aeration and illumination 3000 lux. The present work revealed that the nutrient composition on culture medium affected the total lipid content of N. oculata  at the stationary and but not in exponential phase. The highest total lipid content (67,7%-dw)  was found in N. oculata cultured in media with the lowest phosphate and nitrate concentration, in the contrary the lowest total lipid content (39,3%-dw) was happened in Control medium.  Nutrient limitation in medium culture was able to increase total lipid content in the culture of  N. oculata. Abstract

Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using organism have spurred great interest as a antimicrobial and biomedical agents. Green microalgae have advantages as they are easily available, grow rapidly and producing varieties metabolites. Synthesized of AgNPs from  microalgae C. vulgaris offer environmentally antimicrobial agent. The objectives of the study is producing AgNPs microalgae using C. vulgaris as eco-friendly antimicrobial agent. The research methods was conducted by synthesizing silver nanoparticle microalgae using C. vulgaris following by characterization under UV–visible spectroscopy,  transmission electron microscopy  (TEM), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The research result showed AgNPs C. vulgaris microalgae were produced with and without agitation treatment under different condition. The synthesized AgNPs C. vulgaris exhibited a maximum absorption at 312 nm and 398 nm, and EDX analysis had determined that abundance chemical elements presented in a sample were carbon  and silver.  The TEM analysis revealed that they are spherical form. The spot of EDX analysis showed the presence of silver atoms. The SEM analysis shows the spherical shaped with some silver particle inside of the cell. These resut indicated that formation of silver nanoparticle microalgae using C. vulgaris has been succesfully obtained under the treatment.

Abstract

The gut capacity of shrimp larvae is minimal, and their digestion is often challenged by the inevitable fact that they tend to develop slowly during the zoea stage. Many studies approved that the digestive capacity of shrimp larvae could be improved by increasing the retention time of food in the intestine. Gut evacuation time and fullness of the gut are crucial parameters in assessing the growth of shrimp larvae, and the diet as well as  environmental conditions indeed influence the activity of these parameters. Although many species of shrimps have a wide salinity tolerance, more specific research on salinity and its relation to the type of diet is necessary to find the optimum condition supporting the growth of shrimp larvae. By employing Penaeus merguiensis larvae, this study evaluates the effect of three nominal salinities (28, 32, and 36 ppt) and types of diets (Diet A: 100% live feed; Diet B: 100% FRIPPAK; Diet C: a combination of Diet A and Diet C, 50 % each) toward the fullness of gut and gut evacuation time of the newly introduced Penaeus merguiensis larvae culture. The result showed that the longest gut evacuation time and the highest percentage of gut's fullness were found in all Zoea reared with Diet A at salinity 28 and 32 ppt; Zoea-1 at 28 ppt with Diet A; Zoea-2 at 32 ppt with Diet A; Zoea-3 at 32 ppt with Diet A. Longer gut evacuation time would have an impact on the higher percentage of the fullness of gut. The higher fullness of the gut also indicates that the larvae have the best capacity to produce energy and achieve optimum growth.
