Abstract

According to data from the Directorate of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, from January to September 2022, there were 87,501 cumulative cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever, with an incidence rate of 31.38/100.00 and a case fatality rate of 0.93%. The Tangerang area recorded 1,322 cases of dengue fever throughout 2022, a significant increase compared to the previous year, which only recorded 224 cases. Data from Puskesmas Kresek for August–December 2022 recorded 9 cases, but in January 2023, there were already 12 cases of dengue fever. This indicates an increase in the incidence of dengue fever. Based on a mini-survey of visitors to Puskesmas Kresek in February 2023, it was found that knowledge about dengue fever was still low. This prompted the Faculty of Medicine of Tarumanagara University’s health service team to educate the public about dengue fever to increase their knowledge so that they can take preventive action and reduce the number of dengue fever cases in the working area of Puskesmas Kresek. The method used in this activity was health education and increasing knowledge, which was assessed by comparing the results of the pre-and post-tests. A total of 34 people participated in this activity, and it was found that there was a 47% increase in knowledge based on the results of the pre-test compared to the post-test. This health service activity has been able to increase participants' knowledge of dengue fever. This increase in knowledge is expected to increase public awareness of dengue fever and prevent the disease. In addition, it can reduce the incidence of dengue fever in the work area of Puskesmas Kresek. Abstract

Dyslipidemia is a lipid imbalance such as cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). This condition can be caused by diet, tobacco exposure, or genetics and can lead to cardiovascular disease with severe complications. High cholesterol levels often have no symptoms, so most people do not realize that their cholesterol is too high, and they rarely carry out early detection. The survey showed that our clients, primary school teachers, rarely do cholesterol tests. They often consume foods that contain cholesterol and are physically inactive due to their busy daily activities. Based on client problems, the community service team of FK UNTAR intends to check blood cholesterol levels. The aim of this PKM activity is to increase awareness of the importance of blood cholesterol level checking and increase insight regarding how to maintain cholesterol levels in the body in a normal condition. A total of 23 participants took part in this activity. The results showed that 26.1% of participants had high total cholesterol levels, 34.8% of participants had LDL cholesterol levels close to optimal and borderline, 8.7% of participants had low HDL cholesterol levels, 82.6% of participants had normal triglyceride levels, and 21.7% of participants experienced dyslipidemia. The results of this activity showed that participants with dyslipidemia were quite high. It is hoped that this activity can increase participants' awareness so that they can monitor or carry out regular cholesterol checks in an effort to prevent the emergence of metabolic disease disorders in the future.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in Indonesia. According to Global Burden of Disease and Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation data from 2014 to 2019, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Indonesia. Basic Health Research data for 2018 also reveal an increase in cardiovascular disease, with an incidence of 1.5% higher than the previous year, with an incidence of 0.5% lower in 2013. Teaching is a wonderful vocation, but the welfare of teachers, especially their health, receives little attention from many parties. Teachers may be unable to perform routine health exams, including analyzing the risk of heart disease, due to a lack of funds. As a result, the Faculty Medicine Universitas Tarumanagara health service staff took the initiative to conduct cardiovascular disease screenings. The Framingham Risk Score is a tool for determining the risk of cardiovascular disease. The activity was attended by 21 members of teacher. The participants' average age was 40.24 years, with a range of 30 to 56 years. Females made up 66.7% of all participants. The cardiovascular disease risk assessment revealed that practically all participants (90.5%) were at low risk. This is a good result, but you must be careful not to get overly optimistic about it. Routine checkups are still recommended to ensure good outcomes and avoid potential health problems.

Abstract

Uncontrolled high blood pressure and obesity are global health challenges. Based on the initial survey, participants felt there was no need to carry out regular pressure checks and did not know the importance of measuring abdominal circumference. The Tarumanagara University Faculty of Medicine community service team carried out educational activities on the importance of measuring blood pressure and abdominal circumference for early detection and prevention of hypertension and obesity. The target of the blood pressure and abdominal circumference measurement activity was teaching staff Atisa Dipamkara who was suspected of having high blood pressure and whose family history included hypertension and obesity. The method of implementing the activity is checking blood pressure and waist circumference and direct education regarding the results of blood pressure and abdominal circumference. Screening activities for blood pressure, abdominal circumference and education on the importance of monitoring blood pressure and abdominal circumference measurements were carried out on Monday, September 25 2023, at 7.30-13.00 at Atisa Dipamkara. The service activity was attended by 24 participants consisting of 7 (29.2%) male participants and 17 (70.8%) female participants. The age range of participants is 23-56 years. The mean systolic blood pressure was 114.79 mmHg and the maximum systolic blood pressure was 150 mmHg. The mean diastolic blood pressure was 79.92 mmHg and the maximum diastolic blood pressure was 90 mmHg. Based on the results of the examination, the participants' systolic and diastolic blood pressure were categorized as hypertension. The average abdominal circumference measurement result was 88.33 cm and the maximum abdominal circumference was 113 cm, so based on the results above it was found that the participant's abdominal circumference was categorized as obese.

Abstract

Intestinal parasitic infections are a widespread global health issue and a leading cause of illness worldwide. School-aged children, particularly, are more vulnerable to contracting worm infections, emphasizing the need to prevent the harmful effects of these parasites. A survey of fecal examinations among elementary school children in Indonesia revealed a 25% prevalence of worm infections. The unequal distribution of health education in Indonesian society has led to a lack of awareness and understanding among the public, especially elementary school children, regarding healthy living practices to prevent these infections. To address this issue, a community service team has initiated a program to enhance knowledge about worms and promote healthy living behaviors through direct counseling. The success of this initiative is gauged by assessing the increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test scores. A total of 88 students from grades 4 and 5 participated in this program, achieving an average pre-test score of 94.70 points and an average post-test score of 97.35 points, indicating a 2.8% improvement in knowledge. While the post-test scores showed only a modest increase, the initiative aims to encourage the continued practice of healthy living behaviors among participants to prevent future illnesses. The team remains hopeful that participants will integrate these habits into their daily lives, reducing the risk of infections in the future.

Abstract

Personal hygiene is a crucial aspect in shaping healthy behaviours in children, especially those in early childhood education such as kindergarten. Poor hygiene habits can increase the risk of diseases related to personal hygiene and health behaviours, such as diarrhea, respiratory infections, dengue fever, and parasitic worm infections. The partner (school) reported that in recent months, a significant number of students had been absent from school due to illness. Based on this information and discussions with the school, the health service team from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Tarumanagara (FK Untar), designed an activity to enhance children’s understanding of the importance of personal hygiene through fun and interactive methods. This activity went beyond simple health education; children were actively involved in a question-and-answer session about hygiene and were rewarded with prizes for their participation. A total of 73 children took part in the event. This educational and participatory approach not only generated enthusiasm among the children but also proved effective in strengthening their understanding of personal hygiene. Teacher evaluations indicated that the activity not only improved the children’s knowledge and skills in maintaining hygiene but also had a positive impact on the school environment by fostering healthy and clean habits among the students. Overall, this personal hygiene education activity has proven to be beneficial for both the children’s development and the creation of a healthier, cleaner school environment.
