Abstract

ABSTRACT The development of the tourism industry in Indonesia needs to be supported by appropriate facilities and infrastructure. Hotel as one of the supporting tourism in Indonesia has to be properly expanded. According to the data from Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the occupancy rate of star-rated hotels continues to increase over time. One of the factors affecting the customer's decision in choosing a hotel is its interior design. Interior elements consist of floor, wall, ceiling, and furniture. The wall element is one of the interior elements that are attractive to visitors. To find out the perception of hotel visitors, the author surveyed five three-star hotels in Jakarta. The five hotels are Maxone hotel in Matraman, Yellow Hotel in Harmoni, Lynt Hotel in Gambir, Park 5 Hotel and Swissbellinn both are located in Simatupang. The method used in this study is a mixed-method with a visual perception approach in the form of direct interviews and distributed questionnaires to 40 respondents. The results of the research show that several wall criteria of the hotel that are suitable for visitors among others are: bright wall colors and walls with soothing color schemes. Keywords: Guest’s preferences, hotel rooms, visual perception, wall design

Abstract

ABSTRACT Placemaking in pedestrian ways of a commercial area has its own characteristics, especially between central mode of transportation and shopping center. The area between Tanah Abang Station and “Blok A” Tanah Abang Market is bustling with variety of activities, especially temporary commercial activities by street vendors and hawkers as a form of placemaking. This paper explores the relationship between road dimensions and pedestrian intensity of placemaking that occurs along the pedestrian ways between the station and Blok A of The Market. The research method used is mixed method of quantitative data processing and qualitative analysis. Variables used include the dimensions of the pedestrian ways and pedestrian intensity on the path. Pedestrian ways’ dimensions cover the width and length of the pathway. Pedestrian intensity is measured by the amount, speed, and space of the pedestrian. Case studies include pedestrian ways on four streets, namely the Streets of Jatibaru Raya, Kebon Jati, Jatibaru 2, and Jatibaru 10. The results of the study show that all four streets have similar placemaking although they differ in dimensions and intensity. This shows the relationship between the dimensions of the road with the intensity of the road and it does affect the formation of place/placemaking. The narrower the width of the road and the shorter the length of the road, the higher the intensity of pedestrians, which is an indicator of the formation of placemaking in the pedestrian ways of Tanah Abang. Keywords: pedestrian way dimensions, pedestrian intensity, placemaking

Abstract

Menteng is an elite residential area designed with Garden City Concept in the early 20th century. This area is a modern housing pioneer in Batavia and has been designated as a conservation area through the Governor's Decree in 1975 and is equipped with the conservation classification map of heritage buildings. Currently, there has been a change in the character of the Menteng area, especially on HOS Cokroaminoto Street. This study explored the compliance level of building and environmental conservation between 1975 and 2022. The quantitative method was used to obtain the compliance level of building and environmental conservation. Research variables consist of physical plots such as building massing, building-line, building height, roof shape, terraces and balconies, openings, building materials, ornament, as well as buildings function. The results showed that the buildings that complied with the conservation regulations were 37% or 36 of 97 plots with ten of them having the original form. The ownerships of the ten buildings are the original owner, government agency, or foreign government. Based on the function, only 28 of 36 plots that obeyed the regulations still retains its original function as a residence

Abstract

Population growth happens quickly in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta. With reduced land due to infrastructure development, population growth does not go parallel with the need for housing, which should be a basic need for every human being. This makes the construction of residential houses arranged vertically called public housing. It can reduce land use and create urban open spaces. Public housing should be based on an inclusive design approach that considers human diversity. The design of public housing in Indonesia has not met the needs of all humans, especially in the aspect of all ages and disabilities. The design of the building is still not based on the togetherness of user activities. In the design, it is expected that the use is carried out fairly, which is fair for users and flexibility in space. Aspects of equitable use by pedestrian access and facilities, along with space flexibility based on expandability, convertibility, and versatility. The method used is a qualitative method with the exploration of three cases of public housings. The variables used are inclusive design aspects related to equitable use and flexibility in use. The results reveal that public housing is recommended according to equitable use aspects, inclusive design factors with pedestrian access that is easy to understand and accessible to elderly users and wheelchairs, and affordable facilities. Spaces can be built in the long term with space flexibility, such as multifunctional communal spaces, expansion of spaces near public spaces for unexpected uses, as well as shared use for all users.

Abstract

Like other developing countries where traffic is a significant sound nuisance, traffic in Indonesian urban areas is boisterous. How this condition is regulated by the Indonesian government so that the community can live healthily and comfortably is a very crucial issue. Unfortunately, Indonesia has not had any sound environmental improvement since the regulation was enacted. Additionally, regulators and government officers who run the rule carelessly worsen the condition. This study aims to study how sound is regulated in Indonesia’s central and local governments, what types of sound or noise and levels are covered, and whether recent local regulations have been enacted to regulate sound in Indonesian cities. The study mainly uses quantitative, i.e., snowball or chain referral sampling techniques, to collect sound regulations applied in ten large and busy cities in Indonesia. Then, the qualitative stage was conducted based on the content of the rules. The data shows that the Indonesian government at both the central and regional levels does not have legal standing to regulate noise caused by the absence of noise regulation at the statutory level that can force those who violate the law to be punished. The only regulation is by the Minister of Environment, dated 1996, which is referenced nationally and adopted by most cities without or with minor modifications. This study found that (1) six of the ten cities regulate only one type of noise among various types of noise, (2) twelve of the 35 local regulations incorporate noise regulations into air pollution regulations instead of stand-alone regulations, (3) because provinces and cities adopt central regulations, the lowest noise level follows the central standard at 55 dB for settlement area without specific frequency ranges, (4) there is no straightforward procedure on how measurements to be carried out except in regulations stipulated by Yogyakarta province. There is also a fact that a standardized procedure for measuring noise is vital to be included in the regulation because unskilled government officials collected invalid data in dealing with a noise complaint leading to an unresolved situation.

Abstract

The mosque which was built in various regions in Indonesia has a variety of its uniqueness. People in Indonesia in general only see that people understand architecture in a mosque only as a domed building or apply Middle Eastern elements only. However, many mosques in Indonesia have applied various Vernaculars to their architectural applications and experienced significant changes to the concept and form of the building. This study aims to find the application of Vernacular facades to 4 mosques in Indonesia, namely the Great Mosque of West Sumatra, the Sunan Ampel Mosque, the Great Mosque of Central Java, and the Grand Mosque of K.H. Hasyim Asyari. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques based on journals and articles from the Internet and processed using tables in the form of variables with variables in the form of roofs and mosque wall ornaments. The results of this study are the application of vernacular roof architecture to the mosque in the form of modifications of the local form of each mosque that originates and the application of ornaments on the walls of the mosque which is an adaptation of the local architecture of the local area.

Abstract

Natural lighting is one aspect of ecological architecture to reduce energy use by utilizing sunlight as the main lighting. However, direct and excessive sunlight decreases the comfort level of room users because it can increase the room temperature and interfere with visualization. So it takes control of the distribution of sunlight into the room. In addition, the issue of environmental damage has become hot news among the community today, especially in the property sector, such as using materials that can damage the surrounding environment. Efforts to regulate the entry of sunlight into the room but not harm the surrounding environment, one of which is the application of second skin that utilizes environmentally friendly materials. This paper aims to determine the form and material of secondary skin that is environmentally friendly and suitable for use in resort hotels. This research uses a qualitative comparative method based on three objects in the form of secondary skin in the hotel resort building: Ananta Legian Hotel Bali, EcoSuites (A Reed-Clad Hotel Greece), and Lenora Hotel Bandung with variables namely opening, shape, and shading. For three secondary skin material objects in the resort hotel building, namely Amnaya Resort Kuta, Four Points by Sheraton Bali, and Potato Heads Studio Hotel Bali with variables namely shape, material, and aesthetics. Based on the results of the study, it was found that there are two types of second skin openings that are applied to the hotel resort building, namely dead openings and sliding openings that are applied to adjust the shape with the dominance of the modified rectangular base shape and the shadow produced from the second skin itself adjusts to the function of the shaded space. Environmentally friendly materials used are made from nature, such as vegetation, wood, and roaster bricks that do not damage the surrounding environment, which are applied in a modified rectangular base shape and can improve the aesthetics of the building.
