Abstract

Anxiety is often experienced by adults who have a less pleasant life experience. Writing therapy is an intervention that adults can use to express anxiety. This study aims to find out the effectiveness of writing therapy in lowering anxiety levels. The study used a meta-analysis method through a literature review of 14 research articles corresponding to research variables. The total number of participants in the study was 1,593. Data is analyzed by adjusting the effect size. The analysis results in effect size value obtained from fixed effects are -0.06 (95% Cl = -0.167 to 0.042, P =0.2434) and I² (inconsistency) by 66.9%, which means that writing therapy has little effect in lowering anxiety levels. Writing therapy has little effect on decreasing anxiety levels. Writing therapy can be given in conjunction with other interventions in order to provide more optimal effects

Abstract

Adapun saran dari peneliti adalah untuk melakukan replikasi penelitian guna memperbanyak referensi terkait efektivitas ACT.Kata Kunci: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, gangguan kecemasan umum, metaanalisisMeta-Analysis on The Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Dealing with Generalized Anxiety DisorderAbstractThe prevalence of anxiety disorder in Indonesia increases significantly every year. It is worth special attention, especially in facing the uncertainty during pandemic. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is one of the third-wave cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), usually used for anxiety disorder treatment. In this research, I want to examine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to decrease the level of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), taking General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Geriatic Anxiety Inventory (GAI), and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), as the standard. It uses a meta-analysis techniques processed by statdirect trial version 2.0. It involves 17 experimental journals of ACT and GAD (n experiment group = 574; n control group = 513). The assessment of ACT and GAD bases itself on random effect size (I2 = 83.3%), without any publication bias (-3.88). The result shows that ACT is still effective to decrease the level of GAD (d= -.66; medium effect size). The result concludes that the ACT needs the assistance from other interventions. It also suggests research replication to multiply the references related to the effectiveness of ACT.Keywords: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, generalized anxiety disorder, meta-analysis

Abstract

Numeracy is one of the most necessary skills needed. However, not every student has sufficient numeracy, therefore it is needed an effective intervention to improve students’ mathematics skill. The widely use of technology in education has provided a breakthrough for conducting digital-based interventions in learning mathematics. This study goal is to review the literature which measures the effectiveness of digital-based intervention to improve mathematics skill. Meta-analysis done to eighteen journals published in the past decade with 1,721 participants of experiment group and 1,219 participants of control groups which are relevant to this study. Based on mean differences (M, SD, and n) analysis, it is found that the effect size was g = .492 (95% CI = [.287, .706]; p < .001; I2 (inconsistency) = 84.43%). This shows that the effect size obtained is similar to Benavides-Varela et al. (2020) study which found digital-based interventions are effective to improve dyscalculia students’ mathematics skill. There is also no evidence which shows level of education affects the use of digital intervention to improve students’ mathematics skill (p = .359). The effect size obtained while using level of education as moderator is g =.398 (95% CI = [-.483, .175]; p < .001; I2 (inconsistency) = 84.02%). Therefore, educators can use digital media as a tool to support students’ mathematics learning, both at the preschool to college level.

Abstract

Coughing is one of the most common symptoms in smokers. Smokers who experience a lot of cough arecaused by exposure to cigarette smoke that enters the respiratory tract. The purpose of this study was to determinehow smokers perceive symptoms of cough, use of cough medicine, and self-medication services performed by pharmacists. This study began in March to July 2016. This study used the mixed method method that uses sequentialexplanatory research design. The research sample involved amounted to 100 people, and 12 studies conductedfor interviews were conducted to obtain supporting data. The sample were active smokers aged 18-40 years withmale and female sex who had experienced coughing and had used cough medicine. The results obtained are thetype of cough experienced by smokers is cough with phlegm and cough is not phlegm depending on the categoryof smokers. The use of cough medicine is one of the most common ways for active smokers to reduce the incidenceof coughing. However, there are still many smokers who are wrong in choosing and using cough medicine becausethe knowledge that active smokers have for coughing is still inadequate.

Abstract

Smokers can experience addiction that impedes their efforts to quit smoking. Smokers’ perception and view of quitting smoking are worthy input for health practitioners to promote smoking cessation programs. The purpose of this study was to explore the perception of health risks of smoking and smoking cessation. The method was based on the phenomenological perspective using interpretative phenomenological analysis involving pharmacy students. The study was conducted over two years using snowball-purposive sampling. Participants were smokers who started smoking when they were 18 years old and had previously tried to quit smoking. Results showed that participants started smoking because of curiosity and influences from environments. All participants understood the risks of smoking, and had tried to quit smoking because smoking affected their health and economical status. Therefore, health programs need to focus on smokers’ behavior and barriers to quitting smoking since those who have good knowledge on the risks of smoking can experience difficulty in quitting smoking.

Abstract

Abstract

Pharmaceutical care by pharmacists in the management have an important role of treatment monitoring. Optimal asthma treatment for patients requires cooperation between patients, healthcares, involving doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. Therefore the purpose of this study is to know the perception of healthcares and patients about asthma treatment and pharmaceutical cares on asthma mangement. The method of this study is based on phenomenological perspective with interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) on pulmonologist, outpatient asthma, pharmacist and nurse who directly correlated with asthma treatment at a hospital in Surabaya conducted for two years using purposive sampling. The results of this study indicate that asthma patients know how to manage asthma and use asthma drugs well. In addition it is known that asthma patients feel the role of doctors in the treatment of asthma is very dominating; pulmonologists and nurses perceive that the role of pharmacists is limited to drug delivery; and pharmacists assume that their role has been well done although not all patients get the same asthma treatment education. It is therefore necessary to evaluate the role of pharmacist in performing its role in the treatment of this asthma in order for a more harmonious collaboration.
