Abstract

This research aimed to verify the Indonesian version of the Partner’s Emotional Dependency Scale (SED), originally developed by Camarillo et al. (2020) in Spanish. The SED is a unidimensional scale with 22 items designed to measure emotional dependence on a partner. This is the first time the instrument has been adapted, particularly for use in Indonesia. The validation process employed the Rasch model to ensure the scale’s reliability and accuracy in the Indonesian context. The study involved 229 participants (F = 185, M = 44), aged between 18 and 35 (MAge = 25.5, SD = 4.23). The results confirmed the unidimensionality of the SED scale, with 2 – 3 items contributing to the second dimension. The 5-point Likert scale functioned effectively, enabling respondents to distinguish between different response options. The person-item interaction reliability was found to be .85, and the item reliability was .98, indicating excellent reliability of the SED scale items. All items were evenly distributed across the scale from high to low difficulty. However, items number 1, 3, and 7 (SED 1, SED 3, SED 7) were identified as less suitable for measuring emotional dependence and respondents found it difficult to answer these specific questions. Furthermore, three items (SED 5, SED 6, and SED 19) exhibited Differential Item Functioning (DIF) due to gender bias. The study concludes that, with some revisions and improving the translation, the Indonesian version of the SED scale could be a valuable tool for measuring the level of emotional dependence on a partner in the Indonesian population.

Abstract

Workplace stress is the result of an individual's interaction with their job tasks, which can create tension and imbalance both physically and psychologically. This impacts emotions, cognitive abilities, and the mental state of an employee. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Intervention in reducing workplace stress through a meta-analysis method by reviewing relevant literature from 10 international research journals related to the study variables. The total number of participants in this study was 1,119 individuals divided into two groups: the experimental group (n=560) and the control group (n=559). Based on statistical calculations using mean (M), standard deviation (SD), and the number of participants (n), the effect size value obtained from a random-effect model was determined. Thus, it was sought to establish whether Mindfulness-Based Intervention is an effective treatment for reducing workplace stress and to what extent this effectiveness is. The research results indicated a random effect model value of -0.536 (95% CI = (-0.8208 to -0.2506). The p-value was found to be <0.001 with an inconsistency value (I^2) of 80.6%. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, it can be concluded that Mindfulness-Based Intervention has a medium effect on workplace stress. This suggests that Mindfulness-Based Intervention is less successful in reducing workplace stress and would be more effective if used in conjunction with other types/methods of intervention.

Abstract

Tingkat wellbeing setiap tahun mengalami penurunan.

Abstract

A series of acts of terrorism involving women in various parts of the world, including in Indonesia, allegedly carried out by radical Muslim groups, has strengthened stereotypes and created prejudice against Muslim women who wear the veil. This study aims to explain the role of right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) and intergroup anxiety as antecedents of prejudice against veiled Muslim women. Using a cross-sectional survey design, the study sample (N= 403), domiciled in the city of Surabaya, Indonesia, was selected by accidental sampling. RWA, intergroup anxiety, and prejudice against veiled Muslim women were measured using a questionnaire, and the research hypotheses was analyzed by multiple linear regression. The results show that RWA and intergroup anxiety play a significant role in explaining prejudice against veiled Muslim women (R = .826; R2 = .682; F = 428.68; p < .01), with the relative contributions of RWA and intergroup anxiety being 34% and 66% respectively. The theoretical implication of the research is that RWA and intergroup anxiety act as antecedents of prejudice against veiled Muslim women.

Abstract

Stress is a common issue faced by the Indonesian population, and laughter therapy is believed to be an effective intervention. However, findings from previous research have yielded inconsistent results regarding the effectiveness of laughter therapy. This study evaluates the effectiveness of laughter therapy as an intervention to reduce stress in the Indonesian population through Hedge's G meta-analysis, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. The analysis involved 347 participants from 9 previous studies. The results indicate that laughter therapy has a significant effect in reducing stress levels in individuals. Laughter therapy with 15 steps proved to be the most effective model. The implications of these findings are significant in understanding the role of laughter therapy as a potential strategy in addressing stress in the community. This study provides substantial empirical evidence for mental health practitioners and researchers to incorporate laughter therapy, particularly with proven effective approaches, as an integral part of comprehensive mental health efforts in Indonesia.
