Abstract

In 2023, the number of unemployed people in Maluku will reach 59,800 or 6.08% of the total population. To reduce unemployment in Maluku, it is essential to understand the unemployment situation of the Moluccan population based on socioeconomic factors immediately. Therefore, applying classification methods such as random forests is the right step, but it is recommended that the data be balanced to get accurate results. However, the unemployment rate in Maluku is much lower than that of the unemployed, so data imbalance affects the accuracy of the classification results. Therefore, a data balancing process is needed, among others, using the Random Oversampling of Sample (ROSE), Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE), and Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) methods. This study uses data from the 2023 National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) conducted in February by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Maluku. The number of unemployed people is smaller than the number of unemployed residents. Therefore, action needs to be taken to address data inequality. The results of this study show that the random forest classification model with SMOTE has the best performance with a combination of 90% training data and 10% testing data, with a higher AUC value than other methods, and age variables are the most essential variables built into the model.

Abstract

Energy pathways in soil nematode communities consist of energy pathways for roots, bacteria, and fungi. The dominance of the root energy pathway indicated an increase in nematode attacks on the roots that can be regulated through changes in food availability and the environment. This study aimed to (i) determines the effect of the biochar rate on soil nematode energy pathways on local tomato plants and (2) determine the biochar rate that can suppress the dominance of root-feeding nematodes of local varieties of Muna tomato plants. The treatment tested was the biochar rate expressed as a percentage of the biochar weight the soil weight, namely 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Each was repeated three times, randomly placed in the experimental plot following the randomized block design procedure. The results showed that the addition of biochar to 10% of the soil weight decreased the abundance of the total nematodes and family Longidoridae, on the other hand, increased Aphelenchoididae, Spearman rho correlation. The abundance of root eaters decreased; on the other hand, fungivores increased with the biochar rate. Spearman rho indicated that fungivores were negatively correlated with root-feeders and omnivores while positively correlated with predators. It was concluded that applying biochar up to a rate of 10% of the soil weight before planting could suppress the abundance of root-feeding nematodes in the vegetative growth phase of Muna local tomatoes variety.

Abstract

The halal status of goods consumed is important for people who embrace Islam. This is a necessity that has been explained in the Qur'an. In this study, consumption was related to the use of halal drugs or halal pharmaceuticals. In Indonesia, the use of halal pharmaceuticals is still minimal due to difficulties in procuring raw materials for halal pharmacy itself plus not all types of pharmaceutical products that have used halal raw materials have been labeled halal. This makes it more difficult for Muslims who want to take halal medicines,  even though Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. This study aims to determine the effect of the level of knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of Padjadjaran University health students towards awareness of halal pharmaceutical labeling. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach and the method of data collection using the Random Sampling technique by distributing questionnaires to respondents. The results of data analysis show that the awareness of halal pharmaceuticals labeling is significantly and positively influenced by the variables of knowledge and perception while for the attitude variable has a positive but not significant effect.

Abstract

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) and one of the leading causes of vision impairment worldwide. Prolonged hyperglycemia initiates a cascade of molecular events including chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, advanced glycation end products, and the activation of plasma kallikrein and protein kinase C signaling pathways, which leads to endothelial damage and pericyte loss. The resulting endothelial barrier dysfunction promotes serum leakage and retinal edema, while advanced disease stages are characterized by ischemia-driven retinal neovascularization mediated by elevated intraocular vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels. Current therapeutic strategies for diabetic retinopathy include laser therapy, intravitreal administration of anti-VEGF agents or corticosteroids, and vitreoretinal surgery. Despite their efficacy, a number of patients experience suboptimal responses. Consequently, novel therapeutic approaches are under investigation, including alternative anti-angiogenic agents, gene therapies, and visual cycle modulators currently undergoing clinical trials. A comprehensive understanding of the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of diabetic retinopathy is essential to improve existing treatment modalities and address current limitations in patient outcomes. In this review, we systematically searched and analyzed articles published in English from 2014 to 2024 using PubMed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, and Google Scholar. Relevant search terms included “diabetic retinopathy,” “pathophysiology,” “pathogenesis,” “treatment,” and “diabetic macular edema.” This review presents recent insights into the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy, including oxidative stress, inflammation, and neurodegeneration, followed by an overview of its pathophysiology such as microvascular dysfunction and neovascularization. Finally, current and emerging treatment modalities, encompassing both pharmacological and surgical approaches, are discussed. This structured approach provides essential background to understand the complexity of diabetic retinopathy and recent advances in its management.

Abstract

Abstract

The application of spatial statistics is now commonly used in analysis of phenomena of strategic indicators in Indonesia, including in archipelago provinces. However, application of spatial statistics in archipelago provinces is constrained by spatial weighted matrix that are less relevant in identifying the spatial effects of indicators, due to enormous number of territories which not directly bordered by land. Meanwhile, transportation connectivity in archipelago provinces has expanded far beyond its administrative boundaries. Through this research, we tried to formulate concept in development of spatial weighted matrix based on transportation connectivity between regency/city in archipelago provinces. Our research used primary data processing methods as well as literature studies, with used the data of sea and air transport routes between regencies and cities in the 3 archipelago provinces: Maluku, Maluku Utara, and Kepulauan Riau. We developed several types of spatial weighted matrix based on transportation connectivity between regency/city in those three provinces, as well concepts in combining such matrix with other kinds of spatial weighted matrix. With our research, it is hoped that could trigger more spatial research related to strategic indicators in archipelago provinces in Indonesia.
