Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of a community-based English coaching program for mothers, named English Mommies Club, in improving both maternal English competency and primary students’ English acquisition. The participants were 30 mothers of primary school learners and their 30 children, enrolled in Grades 4 to 6 at state and private primary schools in Indonesia, representing diverse educational backgrounds and family contexts. Grounded in the premise that parents, particularly mothers, play a central role in children’s academic development, the study employed a dominant quantitative experimental design with a supportive qualitative component. Pre- and post-tests were administered to both mothers and students to measure changes in English proficiency, while questionnaires were distributed to capture shifts in parental involvement and learning behaviors. The findings indicate significant improvements in mothers’ English competency following participation in the program, accompanied by measurable gains in students’ English performance. A positive relationship was also identified between maternal English proficiency and students’ English acquisition. Overall, the study highlights the importance of empowering mothers linguistically as a strategic approach to strengthening English learning outcomes in primary education contexts.

Abstract

The aims of the article are to find out: 1) kinds of illocutionary acts which are produced by the main characters in “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie, and 2) the most dominant illocutionary acts.  In analyzing the data, the authors used descriptive qualitative method.  The object of this study was main character’s dialogue of “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie.  The authors did these following steps: watched the movie, found the transcript, identified the dialogues of main character, classified them using Searle’s theory, and interpreted the meaning of utterances.  Here are 52 utterances with illocutionary acts. The results were: 1) Representative (assertive) (65%), 2) Directive (19%), 3) Expressive (8%), 4) Commissive (6%), and 5) Declarative (2%) in scale of 100%. Abstract

Tax compliance in Indonesia remains a persistent challenge, particularly among business entities operating in sectors characterized by complex transactions and varying degrees of formalization, such as agricultural production facilities (saprotan). The specific context of this sector has received limited empirical attention, particularly regarding how digital tax administration and behavioral factors jointly shape compliance behavior. This study aims to examine the influence of digital tax administration systems, tax morale, and perceived tax sanctions on taxpayer compliance among saprotan businesses in Indonesia. Adopting a quantitative research design, this study utilizes census data collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to all identified saprotan businesses in several regions on the island of Java, yielding 97 valid responses from owners or directors who make tax-related decisions. The data were analyzed using statistical application SmartPLS 3 to assess the validity and reliability of the measurements and the structural relationships between the variables. The results indicate that the quality of digital tax administration, tax morale, and tax sanctions each have a positive and statistically significant influence on taxpayer compliance in the sector. By empirically testing these relationships in the context of agricultural production facilities, this study offers sector-specific evidence supporting the relevance of technology-based, psychological, and deterrent mechanisms in explaining compliance behavior, while providing focused implications for the design of digital tax reforms, taxpayer education, and consistent enforcement strategies in similar semi-formal business environments.

Abstract

Study purpose. Artistic gymnastics requires a high level of motor skills and sustained motivation, particularly among junior male athletes. The development of motor skills is closely linked to athletic performance, whilst motivation determines consistency in training and engagement in competition. This study investigated how an eight-session training programme using specialised artistic gymnastics apparatus (pommel horse, parallel bars, floor exercise, and horizontal bar) influenced the psychomotor development, motor skills, and motivation of junior male gymnasts. Materials and methods. A single-group pretest-posttest experimental design was used with 12 junior male gymnasts aged 15–16 years from Semarang, Central Java. Data were collected via validated motor skills assessments, a motivation questionnaire, and a psychomotor evaluation form. Data were analysed using a paired t-test with SPSS 23 to determine significant changes from the pre-test to the post-test. Results. The results of the study showed a significant increase in motivation scores, rising from a pre-test mean of 35.17 (SD = 5.01) to a post-test mean of 39.92 (SD = 4.94), t(11) = 4.23, p = 0.003. Artistic gymnastics performance improved from a pre-test mean of 36.08 (SD = 4.12) to a post-test mean of 40.67 (SD = 4.05), t(11) = 3.87, p = 0.011. Psychomotor skills also improved from a pre-test mean of 37.25 (SD = 2.70) to a post-test mean of 40.75 (SD = 2.68), t(11) = 4.11, p = 0.007. Conclusions. These findings confirm that structured training using specialised artistic gymnastics equipment effectively improves psychomotor performance and intrinsic motivation in junior male gymnasts. Further studies are recommended to use larger and more diverse samples to strengthen the generalisability of the findings.
