Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to determine the application of the REACT strategy as an innovative approach in improving student chemistry learning outcomes. This research was carried out at MAN 2 Padang Lawas in the Even semester of FY 2023/2024. The population in this study were all students in class X MIA with an average number of students per class of 30 people. The sample consisted of 2 classes taken with determination because the number of class X MIA was only 2 classes. The experimental class applies the REACT strategy as an innovative approach, and the control class applies conventional learning. The data collected is processed from the Posttest results. The data were analysed using the independent t-test formula to test the research hypothesis and obtained tcount  ttable (4.67 1.67), so it can be concluded that the application of the REACT strategy as an innovative approach can improve student chemistry learning outcomes. Meanwhile, the gain test for the increase in learning outcomes for the experimental class was 72.60% in the high category, and the control class was 58.50% in the medium category. It can be concluded that the application of the REACT strategy as an innovative approach can improve students' chemistry learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research explores the use of gamification in chemistry education by incorporating puzzles into the study of the Periodic System of Elements. Gamification, which integrates game-like elements into non-gaming contexts, aims to boost students' motivation and improve their academic performance. In chemistry learning, gamification can transform the educational experience into a more engaging and stimulating one, particularly for challenging subjects like the Periodic System of Elements. Puzzles serve as a gamification tool that can enhance students' interest and facilitate a better understanding of complex chemistry concepts through interactive engagement. The study utilizes a literature review approach to gather and analyze various relevant articles, revealing that puzzle-based learning can enhance student participation, alleviate anxiety, and promote teamwork. The results suggest that employing gamification through puzzles not only deepens students' comprehension of fundamental chemical principles but also cultivates a favorable attitude towards learning chemistry. Consequently, the use of puzzles in gamification is recommended as a valuable and enjoyable educational strategy.

Abstract

The cultural wealth of Indonesia has great potential in chemistry education, but it has not been optimally utilized. Materials such as reaction rates can be contextualized through traditional processes, such as the fermentation of tuak. The lack of relevant teaching materials impacts students' low interest and critical thinking skills. Therefore, an innovation in the form of ethnopedagogy-based Student Worksheets with a Problem Based Learning model is needed to create meaningful learning. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. The instruments used consist of 5 essay questions to measure critical thinking skills and a questionnaire containing 20 statements to measure learning interest. A hypothesis test was conducted using a one-tailed Independent Sample T-Test. The results show that the average learning interest of students in the experiment class is higher compared to the control class, namely 90.25 and 85.625, respectively. Meanwhile, the average posttest score for students' critical thinking ability in the experimental class reached 92.25 higher than the control class, which scored 83.5. This shows that the use of Student Worksheet based on ethnopedagogy and Problem Based Learning has an influence on students' learning interest and critical thinking.

Abstract

Natural dyes derived from plants are increasingly attractive due to their safety and environmental friendliness. This study aimed to investigate the effect of vinegar as a natural solvent on the colorfastness of beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) dye applied to white fabric. The research involved extracting pigments from beetroot, applying them to fabric, and testing the solution’s pH, drying time, and wash fastness. The results showed that pure beetroot extract had a pH of 5.2, while the addition of vinegar reduced the pH to 2.5–3.1. Fabric dyed with beetroot + vinegar exhibited higher initial color intensity (score 11) compared to pure beetroot (score 9), but its colorfastness dropped sharply after washing (score 4 vs. 7). Vinegar addition also prolonged fabric drying time from 12 minutes (without vinegar) to 17.5 minutes (with 20 mL vinegar). These findings indicate that vinegar enhances initial dye brightness but reduces colorfastness after washing. Nevertheless, beetroot dye remains a safer and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic dyes, although further optimization is required to improve its durability.
