Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out the significant improvement of students’ speaking achievement after the implementation of blended learning through YouTube media and to investigate the students’ responses toward it. This research was conducted at UPT SMAN 3 Empat Lawang and XI Science 1 consisting of 36 students was chosen as the sample of this research. This research used One Group Time Series Design of Quasi-Experimental as the research design. A series of pre-test and post-test was conducted to get the findings and answer the research question. The result of pre and post-tests showed that the students’ scores increased with the highest scores came from post-test 3 after the third treatment using YouTube. This result indicated that there was a significant improvement in students’ speaking achievement after the use of blended learning through YouTube media since the significant value is lower than 0.05 (0.00 0.05). Besides, this research also used a close-ended questionnaire with 4 scales (strongly agree, agree, disagree, and strongly disagree) to know the students’ responses to the implementation of blended learning through YouTube media in speaking class. The findings showed that the percentage of students’ choices in most items of the questionnaire was categorized as positive. The positive responses support the result of the improvement in students’ speaking achievement and prove the use of blended learning through YouTube is not only help the students to improve but also meet students’ need. In conclusion, the implementation of blended learning through YouTube media in speaking class facilitates students to improve their speaking achievement and satisfied them.doi: https://dx.doi.org/10.23960/UJET.v10.i4.202110

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan pemahaman mendengarkan siswa dan untuk meneliti masalah-masalah yang dihadapi siswa yang diajarkan melalui teknik grup kerja. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIIIU2 sebagai kelas try-out dan kelas VIIIIT sebagai kelas penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan model one group pretest posttest melalui tiga kali pengajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pretes siswa adalah 62.28 dan nilai postes adalah 70.24. Ini artinya diperoleh peningkatan 7.80. T-test menyatakan bahwa hasil t-ratio lebih tinggi daripada t-table (6.7482.060) dengan signifikansi (p0.05, p=0.000). Permasalahan pada siswa pada pengajaran pemahaman mendengarkan adalah kosakata, daya ingat mereka, kemampuan mendengarkan, dan tingkat kenyamanan. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan dari pemahaman mendengarkan siswa setelah diajarkan menggunakan grup kerja. The objectives of the research are to find out whether the improvement of the students’ listening comprehension and to invistigate the problems faced by the students who are taught through group work technique. The sample of the research was VIIIU2 as try out class and VIIIIT  as experimental class. This research applied one group pretest posttest design through three times treatments. The data were obtained by using Repeated Measured T-test, the students’ mean scores of pretest was 62.28 and the posttest was 70.24. It means, the gain is 7.80. The t-test also revealed that the result was t-ratio is higher than t-table (6.7482.060) with the level of significant (p .05, p = .000). The problems of the students in teaching listening comprehension were vocabulary, their memory, their ability in listening, and comfortability level. It can be concluded that there is an improvement of the students’ listening comprehension after being taught using group work.Keywords: group work technique, listening comprehension, narrative text

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi: tingkat kesulitan, daya beda, kualitas pilihan, keandalan, keberterimaan; validitas tes dan pendapat guru dan kepala sekolah tentang penggunaan iteman. Objek penelitian adalah soal mid semester bahasa Inggris yang guru buat untuk kelas 2 SMPN 8 Bandar Lampung tahun 2013/2014. Hasil penelitian menunjukan: tingkat kesulitan terdiri dari 21 item (52.5%) diterima, 5 item (12.5%) perlu diperbaiki, 2 item (5%) perlu dibuang. Daya beda terdiri dari 16 item (40%) diterima, 2 item (5%) perlu perbaikan, dan 17 item (42.5%) perlu dibuang. Kualitas pilihan (Prop. Endorsing) adalah 42 pilihan (26%) diterima, 35 pilihan (22%) perlu diperbaiki dan perlu dibuang. Keandalan (alpha) adalah 0.763. hasil juga menunjukan bahwa guru tidak pernah menganilisis item tes sebelum mereka menggunakannya Karena mereka belum begitu mengenal perangkat iteman dan karena keterbatasan waktu. The objectives of the research are to identify: the difficulty level, discriminating power, quality of the options, reliability, acceptability; validity of the items, and the teacher’s as well as headmaster’s opinions about the iteman. The object of the research is teacher-made English Mid Semester for second grade in SMP Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung in 2013/2014 academic year. The results show that: difficulty level consists of 21 items (52.5%) acceptable, 5 items (12.5%) need revising, and 2 items (5%) need dropping. Discriminating power consists of 16 items (40%) acceptable, 2 items (5%) need revising, and 17 items (42.5%) need dropping. The quality of the options is 42 options (26%) acceptable, 35 options (22%) need revisingand need dropping. Reliability is 0.763.Italso shows that the teachers never analyze the test items before using them because of their unfamiliarity with iteman and the time constaint. Keywords: discriminating power, iteman software, difficulty level, reliability, validity.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out whether there was an improvement in students' reading comprehension after they were taught by using Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) Strategy.The sample of this research was 30 students ineleventh grade of IPS 3 in SMA Negeri 1 Penawar Aji in academic year 2019/2020. The data were obtained after conducting the pretest and posttest.The result of this research shows that there is a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension. It can be seen in the mean score of pretest which was 63.4 that improved to 71.2 in posttest and the t-value is 22.015 with df 19 meanwhile in t-table of 19 is 2.0930. It means that t-value is higher than t-table (22.015 2.0930). The significant value was 0.00, which was lower than 0.05. It indicated that H1 is accepted, and that there was a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension after they were taught using Listen-Read-Discuss Strategy. It can be concluded that Listen-Read-Discuss Strategy could be used as an alternative technique to improve students’ reading comprehension.Keywords: listen-read-discuss, Listen-Read-Discuss Strategy, reading comprehension.

Abstract

The aims of the research were to find out whether there was an improvement of the students’ writing ability in descriptive text and students’ perceptions after the the implementation of Guiding Question. The research was a quantitative-qualitative research. The design used in this research was one group pretest and posttest. The subjects were 24 students of class VIII E of SMP Negeri 13 Bandar Lampung. The instruments were writing test and interview protocol. The data were in the form of scores and transcripts taken from the pretest and posttest and those were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test. The results showed that students’ writing score was gained 13.75 points from 50.16 in pretest to 63.91 in posttest and the statistical result showed that the significance score was 0.00 it means that there is a significant improvement on students’ ability in writing descriptive text since 0.00 0.05. Furthermore, the result of the interview showed that students found it easy and enjoyed while learning descriptive text through Guiding Questions so it can be concluded that students had positive perceptions during the implementation of guiding questions technique in the class. The result of the interview also shows that most students did not feel any difficulties, stressed or frustrated and they were also interested and motivated when this media was applied. It can be concluded that Guiding Questions provides a positive impact for the students when it was applied in the class as a teaching media.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there is a significant improvement in students' writing achievement after being taught using Process Approach-Based Mind Mapping, as well as which aspect of students' writing enhances the most. A quantitative study using a pre-experimental design was carried out which involved 15 ninth-grade students of SMPN 38 Bandar Lampung. The instruments used in this research were writing tests whichwere analyzed using Paired Sample T-test through SPSS 16.0. The results demonstrated that students' writing achievement significantly improved from pretest to posttest after being taught using Process Approach-Based Mind Mapping and the most enhancement aspect of writing was content. Process Approach-Based Mind Mapping could be utilized to assist students organize their thoughts by allowing for individual brainstorming using graphics and providing students with a structured writing direction. Process Approach emphasizes four key stages: planning, drafting, editing (reflecting and revising), and final version.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not there is any significant improvement in students’ writing descriptive text after using Instagram and which aspect of writing improves the most after they are taught by using Instagram. The sample of the research were 26 students, and the population is class VIII at SMPN. This research was quantitative. One group of pre-test and post-test designs was used in this research. The instruments used in this research were writing test. The collected data were analyzed statistically through a Paired Samples T-test. The result of the research showed that the mean score of pre-tests is 55.77 and the post-test is 70.12. The results of t-value (15.179) is higher than t-table (2.0595) and the value of two-tailed significance is 0.000 0.05. It showed that the hypothesis is accepted that is, there is a significant improvement of students’ writing achievement after the use of Instagram. The result also shows that the most improving aspect of writing is language use with the mean score of pre-tests is 10.90 and the mean score of post-tests is 16.42. The improvement of the language use is 5.52 with the percentage is 38%. On the other hand, the lowest improvement aspect of writing is mechanics. It showed that the mean score of pre-tests is 2.12 and the mean score of post-tests is 3.02. The gain is 0.90 with the percentage is 6 %. The results indicate that 1.) There was a significant improvement in their writing achievement after being taught by using Instagram. 2.) Language use has a significant increase because this aspect has a higher score of 38% compared to other aspects.. Based on the result, it is concluded that there was a significant improvement in their writing achievement after being taught by using Instagram.

Abstract

The research aimed to find out whether there was a significant effect of using word chain games towards students’ vocabulary mastery in the teaching-learning process. This research was conducted on the eight grade students of SMPN 26 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2021/2022 in the second semester. Class VIII B consisting of 28 students was chosen as the sample of this research. This research was quantitative. The design used was one group pre-test and post-test. The instrument was a vocabulary test that consisted of two parts that were pre-test and a post-test and the data were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-test in SPSS 23. The results showed that the students’ mean score on the pre-test was 41.00 and the mean score on the post-test was 68.43. Besides, the improvement of students’ mean scores from the pre-test to the post-test was 27.42 and the p-value of a significant level was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. Therefore, H1 is accepted that there is a significant effect of using word chain games towards students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This research aims to find out i) the significant difference in students’ reading comprehension of narrative text after being taught by using Wattpad media ii) the students’ response in relation to the use of Wattpad. The subjects of the research were 21 students of SMK Miftahul Huda in the first-grade level as a sample by employing quantitative research with reading tests and questionnaires for the data collection. After analyzing the data, the results showed that the pre-test mean score reached 54.45 and the post-test mean score reached 73.27 with the gain is 18.82. In which, the data were analyzed both statistically through a Paired Samples T-test and also descriptively through a descriptive analysis. Based on the statistical analysis, it indicates that the increase is significant because the t-value is 8.883 and the t-table score is 2.069, t-value is higher than t-table. In summary, the result of study found that Wattpad is significant to improve reading particularly in identifying reference. Furthermore, the students showed positive response after doing the treatments. The improvement was shown in all aspects of reading, especially aspect of identifying reference. From the results, it can be concluded that reading through Wattpad can improve reading narrative text comprehension among the students in the first grade of Vocational High School.Keywords: reading, Wattpad media, narrative text
