Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan penguasaan kosakata siswa setelah diajarkan melalui gambar. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest dan posttest. Tes kosa kata digunakan untuk pengambilan data. Data ini di analisis menggunalkan repeated measured t-test. Subyek penelitian ini 27 siswa dari kelas empat pada SDN 1 Rajabasa Raya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan antara pretest dan posttest. Dengan level signifikan adalah p0.05 (p=0.000). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa gambar dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan prestasi belajar kosa kata siswa.The aim of the research was to find out the improvement of students vocabulary mastery after they were taught through pictures. The research used one group pretest and posttest design. The vocabulary test was used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by using repeated measured t-test. The subjects of this study were 27 students from the first grade students of SDN 1 Rajabasa Raya. The result showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the students mean score between the pretest and the posttest with significant level p0.05 (p=0.000). This suggests that pictures could be used to improve students vocabulary achievement.Keywords: improve, picture, vocabulary

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) proses penerapan community language learning dalam pengajaran vocabulary, (2) permasalahan yang muncul dari penggunaan CLL dalam pengajaran vocabulary pada content words. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII.10 SMPN 1 Kalianda. Data didapat melalui lembar observasi dan kuisioner. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa proses penerapan CLL dalam pengajaran vocabulary menggunakan picture sequence berjalan dengan baik dan permasalahan yang dihadapi siswa yaitu siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris secara langsung dikarenakan mereka tidak mengetahui makna dan pengucapan kata terutama pada kata keterangan.This research was intended to find out (1) the implementation process of Community Language Learning in teaching vocabulary, (2) the problems coming from using CLL in teaching vocabulary in term of content words. The sample of this research was class VIII.10 of SMPN 1 Kalianda. The data were collected by using observation sheet and questionnaire. The results of this research showed that the process of implementation of CLL in teaching vocabulary by using picture sequence ran well and the problems faced by students were the students felt difficult in using English directly because they did not know the meaning and pronunciation of words especially in adverb.Keywords: community language learning, content word, picture sequence.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan hasil belajar membaca pemahaman antara siswa dengan motivasi tinggi dan rendah. Desain penelitiannya adalah ex-post-facto dengan menggunakan studi perbandingan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas VIII di SMPN 1 Gedung Aji, Tulang Bawang yang terdiri dari 56 siswa. Alat ukur penelitian ini adalah kuisioner untuk mengukur motivasi siswa dan tes pilihan ganda untuk mengukur hasil belajar membaca siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada perbedaan hasil belajar membaca pemahaman yang signifikan antara siswa yang memiliki motivasi tinggi dan rendah dengan sig = 0. 016 (sig 0.05). Selanjutnya, siswa dengan motivasi tinggi memiliki hasil belajar lebih baik dibandingkan siswa dengan motivasi rendah dengan perbandingan nilai 11. 13. Dengan demikian, penulis menganjurkan guru Bahasa Inggris sebaiknya memotivasi siswanya dalam belajar terutama aspek membaca untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar membaca siswa. This research is intended to find out whether or not there is a difference between the students with high motivation and those with low motivation in reading comprehension achievement. This research was conducted in second grade of SMPN 1 Gedung Aji, Tulang Bawang that consists of 56 students. The design is ex-post-facto by using comparative study. The instruments are questionnaire to measure the students’ motivation and the multiple choice test to measure their reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that there was a significant difference between high and low motivated students in their reading comprehension achievement with sig = 0. 016 (sig 0.05). Moreover, the students with high motivation have better achievement than those of low motivation with the gain score is 11. 13. Therefore, the writer suggests that English teacher should motivate their students in learning English especially in reading in order to improve their reading achievement. Keywords: comparative study, motivation, reading comprehension achievement

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan keterampilan berbicara antara teks deskriptif dan naratif setelah mereka diambil menggunakan teknik story completion. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa dari kelas X IPA 6. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Repeated Measure. Data penelitian dijaring menggunakan tes pada teks deskriptif dan teks naratif dengan mengambil nilai dari tes berbicara. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dalam keterampilan berbicara antara test pada teks deskriptif dan teks naratif denagn nilai signifikansi 0.05. ini mengusulkan bahwa pemahaman di teks deskriptif dan kosa kata di naratif teks memudahkan siswa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka.The aims of this study are to find out whether there was a statistically significant difference of students speaking ability in descriptive and narrative texts after they were taught through the story completion. The subjects were 30 students of class X natural science 6. The study employed the repeated measure t-test design. The data were collected through the posttests in descriptive text and narrative text taking the form of speaking tests. The result showed that there was a statistically significant difference of speaking achievement between the posttest in descriptive and in narrative texts, with the significant level 0.05. This suggests that the strong comprehensibility in the descriptive text and vocabulary in the narrative text facilitate students to improve their speaking ability.Keywords: speaking, story completion, descriptive, narrative.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya hubungan yang signifikan antara penilaian siswa terhadap kompetensi komunikatif dan performa mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan kuesioner dan beberapa tes kemampuan produktif berbahasa. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan Pearson Product Moment. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 72 mahasiswa jurusan pendidikan bahasa Inggris Universitas Lampung. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa secara statistik, penilaian siswa terhadap kemampuan komunikasi komunikatif mereka memiliki korelasi yang signifikan terhadap beberapa kemampuan produktif berbahasa mereka (? 0.05). Akan tetapi, pada kemampuan berbicara, nilai korelasinya masih lemah (0.256). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa masih ada perbedaan antara penilaian siswa dan guru dalam kemampuan berbahasa. Lebih dari itu, siswa membutuhkan waktu untuk memperoleh kompetensi berbahasa Inggris agar mereka lebih siap untuk memberikan performa yang lebih baik.The research aimed to find out whether there is significant correlation between students self assessment of communicative competence and their actual performance or not. The research was conducted by using a set of questionnaire and several productive skill tests. The collected data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment. The subjects of the research were 72 English department students of Lampung University. The result reveals that students self assessment of communicative competence has significant correlation for some actual performances(? 0.05) at significant level. Though, the size of correlations of students self assessment of communicative competence and their speaking performance is still low (0.256). It indicates that there is still a gap between students and teacher judgment particularly in speaking performance. Moreover, the students need time to acquire English competences in order to make they are ready to have a good performance.Keywords: Communicative competence, students language performance, students self assessment.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk (1)menemukan pengaruh CTBT di dalam pemahaman membaca siswa terhadap teks literature, (2)pengaruh berpikir kritis terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa, dan (3)proses dari CTBT di dalam kelas. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitaif dan kualitatif. Subjek dari penilitian ini adalah siswa kelas sebelas MAN 2 Bandar Lampung. Terdapat tiga instrumen: tes pemahaman membaca, kuesioner berpikir kritis, dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada pemahaman membaca siswa sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan menggunakan teks literatur. Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan pada kategori berpikir kritis siswa terhadap pencapaian pemahaman membaca mereka. Terdapat empat langkah dalam pembelajaran berbasis berpikir kritis, antara lain merangkum, menganalisis, mensintesis, dan menilai. Lebih lanjut, pengajaran berpikir kritis siswa menggunakan teks literatur efektif dan cara yang baik untuk meningkatkan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pemahaman membaca. The objectives of the research are to (1)find out the effect CTBT in students’ reading comprehension of literary text, (2)explore the effect of students’ CT category in their reading comprehension, and (3)explore the process of CTBT in the classroom. This research used quantitative and qualitative approaches. The subjects are the students of eleventh grade of MAN 2 Bandar Lampung. There are three instruments: reading comprehension test, CT’s questionnaire, and observation. The result showed that there was a significant difference on the students’ reading comprehension before and after being taught through literary text. There was a significant effect of students’ critical thinking category on their reading comprehension achievement. There are four steps of CTBT, those are summary, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Furthermore, CTBT is an effective and good way to increase student’ critical thinking in reading comprehension.  Keywords: Critical thinking, literary texts, reading comprehension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh signifikan terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa menggunakan metode CLT dan menemukan teknik yang memberikan efek terbaik bagi siswa dalam hal kualitas dan kuantitas terhadap keterampilan interaksi berbicara. Peneliti menggunakan times series design dengan memberikan topik dan teknik yang berbeda untuk setiap perlakuan dan tes. Data diambil dengan merekam dan menyalin percakapan siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap keterampilan siswa dalam berbicara menggunakan metode CLT dalam hal kualitas dan kuantitas terhadap keterampilan interaksi berbicara. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa untuk kualitas keterampilan berbicara, role play memberikan efek terbaik bagi siswa dalam hal aspek keterampilan berbicara dan dari kuantitas interaksi, problem solving memberikan efek terbaik bagi para siswa dalam memproduksi rerata panjang ucapan.This research is intended to know the significant effect of the students’ speaking skill by usig CLT and find which technique gives the best effect in term of quality of speaking skill and quantity of interaction. The researcher used one group times series design by giving different topics and techniques for each treatment and every test. The data were taken by recording and transcribing the students’ speaking performances. The results show that there was a significant effect of the students’ speaking skill by usig CLT in term of quality of speaking skill and quantity of interaction. Therefore, it can be concluded that for the quality of speaking skill role play technique gave the best effect for the students in terms of ascpect of speaking skill and from quantity of interaction, problem solving technique gave the best effect for the students in producing mean length of utterance (MLU).Keywords: mean length of utterance, quality of speaking skill, quantity of interaction.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) menemukan proses pembelajaran program membaca ekstensif, (2) mengeksplorasi masalah-masalah siswa yang ditemukan dalam penerapan membaca ekstensif, dan (3) menginvestigasi aspek menulis manakah yang paling meningkat setelah treatment. Kualitatif data terdiri dari field notes yang diperoleh dari pengamatan dan wawancara yang diperoleh dari wawancara siswa. Kuantitatif data berupa nilai pemahaman membaca siswa yang diperoleh dari tes pemahaman membaca. Hasil menunjukkan proses belajar mengajar melalui program membaca ekstensif berjalan dengan baik sesuai seperti yang diharapkan peneliti. Dapat dilihat bahwa siswa menghadapi dua masalah dalam penerapan program membaca ekstensif: kesulitan kosa kata dan atmosfer ruang kelas. Dapat ditemukan bahwa ada peningkatan dari semua aspek pemahaman membaca dari pre-test dan post-test, kecuali kosa kata.The objectives of the research are to (1) find out the learning process of teaching extensive reading program, (2) explore students’ problems found in the implementation of extensive reading, and (3) investigate which aspect of reading comprehension that mostly improved after treatment. The qualitative data consisted of field notes obtained from observations and interview transcripts obtained from interviews with the students. The quantitative data in the forms of students’ reading comprehension scores obtained from reading comprehension tests. The result showed the teaching and learning process through extensive reading program ran well as expected by the researcher. It could be seen that the students faced two problems in the implementation of extensive reading program: vocabulary difficulties and classroom atmosphere. It was also found that there was an increase of every aspect in reading comprehension from the pre-test and post-test, except vocabulary.Keywords: Extensive reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui tipe strategi yang digunakan siswa dalam pelajaran mendengar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan dilaksanakan pada kelas 2 MAN 1 Bandar Lampung yang berjumlah 32 siswa. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan kuisioner untuk mengetahui tipe strategi belajar siswa dalam pelajaran mendengarkan. Data dianalisis dengan ANOVA. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) Siswa yang tergolong kognitif berjumlah 17 siswa, metakognitif 8 siswa, dan sosial 7 siswa. (2) Siswa dengan strategi metakognitif memiliki nilai yang lebih baik daripada siswa dengan strategi cognitif dan sosial dengan rata-rata 81,4. Siswa yang menggunakan strategi metakognitif akan melakukan planning, thinking about the learning proccess, monitoring, dan evaluation yang membantu mereka untuk mengerjakan tes mendengarkan. Dengan mengetahui strategi belajar siswa, guru dapat lebih kreatif dalam memilih metode belajar yang tepat karena mereka mengetahui bagaimana karakter siswa dan yang mereka butuhkan.This research was aimed at finding out learning strategies used by learners based on their achievement in learning listening. This research was a quantitative study and it was conducted to 32 learners in second grade of MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. In collecting data, the researcher used questionnaire to measure learning strategies in listening test. Data were analized using ANOVA. The results showed that (1) The learners which were group as cognitive was found 17 learners, metacognitive was 8 learners and social was 7 learners. (2) Metacognitive learners got better score than learners with cognitive and social strategy with the average score 81,4. Metacognitive learners used planning, thinking about the learning proccess, monitoring, and evaluation which helped them to do listening test. Thus, by identifying learners learning strategies, the teacher would be more creative in choosing appropriate methods in learning process because they know the students characteristics and what they need.Keywords: achievement, learning strategies, listening,

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa setelah diajar menggunakan group work. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif yang menggunakan disain one group pretest postest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas dua SMA. Data dianalisa menggunakan formula t-test. Nilai rata rata pada pre test adalah 52.4 dan post test adalah 69,1 atau meningkat sekitar 16,7. Itu terbukti bahwa nilai siswa meningkat dengan signifikan karena t-ratio lebih tinggi daripada t table 28.502 2.0423), p0.05 (p=0.000). Bisa disimpulkan bahwa tehnik ini efektif untuk pengajaran kemampuan berbicara.The objective of the research is to find out whether there is increase of students’ speaking ability after being taught through group work. The type of the research was quantitative which has one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this research was the second year students of SMA. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The mean score of pre-test was 52.4 and post-test was 67.9  or increased about 16.7. It proved that the students’ scores increase significantly because t-ratio is higher than t-table (28.502 2.0423), p0.05 (p=0.000).
