Abstract

Abstract_ The increasingly severe global climate change, triggered by human activities such as fossil fuel combustion, deforestation, and industrial activities, has created an urgency to design buildings that are more efficient and environmentally friendly. Global warming, caused by the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere, necessitates the application of new approaches in building design, which not only focus on reducing energy consumption but also on overall environmental sustainability. This research aims to identify the application of bioclimatic architecture principles in building design, focusing on orientation, openings, and material selection that support energy efficiency. The methods used in this research include descriptive analysis of passive solar design that utilizes natural energy from the surrounding environment, the selection of sustainable materials, and the implementation of green systems such as green roofs and rainwater harvesting systems to reduce the building's carbon footprint. The research results indicate that the application of bioclimatic architecture principles, such as optimal building orientation towards the sun and efficient use of openings, can reduce dependence on artificial energy, enhance occupant comfort, and minimize negative environmental impacts. These findings support climate change mitigation efforts by creating buildings that are more energy-efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly.

Abstract

The Selayar Islands in South Sulawesi exhibit a strong love for the automotive realm, particularly motorcycle racing, engaging individuals of diverse age groups. The significant incidence of traffic accidents—120 instances in 2018 resulting in 8 fatalities and 37 occurrences with 3 fatalities in the first quarter of 2019—constitutes a grave concern, especially given that yearly motorcycle racing events utilise public roads as circuits in the Benteng area. This study seeks to construct a national-scale motorcycle racing circuit facility to mitigate unlawful street racing, decrease traffic accidents, promote local youth engagement in motorcycle racing, and boost tourism. The methods employed encompass literature evaluation, local requirement assessment, field surveys, and the development of design concepts that emphasise both functional and aesthetic dimensions, particularly the integration of dynamic facades as a pivotal architectural feature. The findings suggest that a motorcycle racing circuit, including a kinetic façade design, can offer a secure and standardised sports facility, diminish accidents resulting from illicit racing, foster local talent development, and markedly enhance tourism appeal in the Selayar Islands.

Abstract

Electricity has become society's primary need, which will continue in the future, along with the increasing use of electrical equipment. The need to utilize electrical energy is so significant that it differs from conventional power plants in terms of the availability of energy sources. Conventional electrical energy sources come from fossil fuels, which are the largest source of pollution that has an impact on global warming. This research aims to minimize global warming and support energy procurement using solar panels, using a qualitative descriptive method by identifying the use of solar panels and cross ventilation systems in the design of the Waste Power Plant Center in Makassar City, followed by a comparative study. The design result is the application of monocrystalline solar panels with a slope of 15° and a cross-ventilation system with bottom casement-type openings installed with wide openings to optimize airflow circulation.

Abstract

Urban farming is a type of agriculture practised by city dwellers to produce organic, healthy food free from chemicals, aiming to improve life quality through healthy food consumption. However, urban residents often choose unhealthy lifestyles and consume fewer vegetables. The most common barriers are categorised as technical and non-technical. This study investigates how sustainable architectural concepts can be applied both passively and actively in the design of the Urban Farming Centre in Makassar. Data was collected through field observations, interviews, and literature research, then analysed using synthesis methods to develop an appropriate design concept. The study indicates that urban farming centres can use sustainable passive and active designs to enhance energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and ecological sustainability. Passive designs, such as building orientation and natural shading, save energy, while active designs, such as solar panels and agricultural technologies, support energy sustainability and food security. According to this research, the Urban Farming Centre can function as a food production facility and as an educational hub, teaching farmer groups and the community to enhance food security in line with the region's potential.

Abstract

As one of the districts that is concerned with religious activities, namely Bulukumba, a forum is needed for the community or the government to carry out these activities in the form of an Islamic Cultural Center which accommodates the various needs of community activities. The design of the Islamic Cultural Center is a facility with supporting facilities that support educational, social, health, economic activities, and a center for preaching the spread of Islam. The design of the Islamic Cultural Center in Bulukumba Regency, applies an Islamic architectural approach that is in line with the building's functions based on basic Islamic principles, as contained in the Al-Qur'an and Al-Hadith. Then it is poured in the form of architectural design in accordance with architectural disciplines which are expected to be able to foster community interest and enthusiasm in carrying out Islamic activities, especially in the people of Bulukumba Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a bioclimatic design framework for the Pantai Alam Aquatic Center in Bulukumba Regency, Indonesia, tailored to the local humid climate. Bioclimatic architecture, which integrates climatic data and environmental considerations into building design, is employed to enhance energy efficiency and user comfort. This design includes the use of natural ventilation, natural lighting, and local materials, proven to be effective in creating energy-efficient and sustainable buildings. Through literature analysis and case studies, this research demonstrates that the application of bioclimatic principles can reduce energy consumption and improve thermal comfort. The findings underscore the importance of climate considerations in architectural design, especially in tropical regions. The conclusion of this study is that bioclimatic design is not only relevant but also critical for the development of sustainable and climate-adaptive public facilities. Further research is needed to monitor long-term performance and apply it to other building types. This project provides a model that can be adapted for public facilities in other tropical regions, promoting more environmentally friendly design practices.

Abstract

This study explores the application of Neo-Vernacular architecture principles in the design of the Floating Resort at Pantai Liang, Central Maluku Regency. The resort integrates traditional Maluku elements with modern technology to create a sustainable, comfortable, and culturally harmonious tourist environment. The design emphasizes using local materials, stilthouse structures, and triangular roofs inspired by traditional Baileo houses. Modern technologies, such as energy-efficient glass and advanced insulation systems, ensure guest comfort without compromising cultural values and environmental sustainability. The results indicate that Neo-Vernacular architecture enhances the tourist experience, contributes to cultural preservation, and supports environmental sustainability. The study also provides recommendations for further development, including incorporating more local cultural elements, renewable energy systems, cultural education facilities, and further research on the long-term impacts of this architectural approach.

Abstract

Abstract_Pondok Pesantren is very important for every human being from children to adults, both formally and informally. Pondok Pesantren is basically a place for students to learn. Therefore, the Darul Istiqamah Timbuseng Islamic Boarding School in Gowa Regency is an alternative, especially for those who want to study general education and religious education. The location of the Darul Istiqamah Islamic Boarding School Timbuseng is on Jalan Institution, Pattallassang District, Gowa Regency. The use of solar panels is an alternative that can be used in the redesign concept of Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to identify the solar panel system used in the redesign of the pesantren. The data obtained from the results of the exploration of the design of the pesantren were then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The application of solar panels with a PV system in buildings with a saddle/shield form dominates on the roof of the building.
