Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of interactive digital media in the implementation of the Discovery Learning model to enhance students' cognitive competence in science learning at the junior high school level. The method used is a literature review by analyzing various scholarly articles, national journals, and relevant research from the past five years. The review findings indicate that the application of Discovery Learning supported by interactive digital media, such as Genially, creates a more exploratory and meaningful learning experience. Interactive digital media facilitates independent learning activities, problem-solving, and scientific reasoning, all of which are components of cognitive competence

Abstract

Education in Indonesia continues to develop along with advances in science and technology, demanding innovation in Natural Science (IPA) learning to improve students' understanding of concepts. This study aims to examine digital media and learning models that are effective in increasing understanding of science concepts in lower level schools through a systematic literature review. Data was obtained from 22 articles published in 2020–2025 using the Publish or Perish application with related keywords. The analysis shows that digital learning media such as virtual laboratories, augmented reality (AR), interactive videos, quiz applications (Quizizz, Wordwall), and interactive e-books, are effective in helping students understand abstract science concepts in a more concrete and fun way. In addition, learning models such as Problem Based Learning (PBL), Discovery Learning, and Project Based Learning (PjBL) combined with digital media have been proven to increase student engagement, critical thinking, and deep understanding of science material. This decision recommends integrating interactive digital media and constructivism-based learning models in science learning to create active, contextual and meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

Junior high school students' critical thinking skills need to be possessed and trained to face the 21st century. The increasingly developing era of education is an important aspect to combat the future. However, junior high school science learning is generally still relatively low because the learning approach does not involve students enough. One learning model that is considered effective is inquiry learning. This learning model involves students and encourages them to improve their critical thinking skills. This study aims to examine the role and influence of the inquiry learning model to improve the critical thinking skills of junior high school students. The method used is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) from Google Scholar. The data search keywords are inquiry learning and critical thinking skills, 20 articles were found and 10 articles will be reviewed with these criteria. The research findings show that the use of the inquiry learning model can improve the thinking skills of junior high school students in science subjects.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the utilization of Pop-Up Book media in the context of learning Natural Sciences (IPA) at the junior high school (SMP) level. The methodology employed is a systematic literature review guided by the PRISMA approach, encompassing the identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion of pertinent articles. A comprehensive review of the extant literature yielded seven articles that satisfied the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. These articles were then subjected to a rigorous analysis to address two primary research questions: (1) What materials are employed as topics in Pop-Up Books for science education, and (2) What aspects of learning are demonstrably enhanced by the utilization of Pop-Up Book media in science education at the junior high school level? The analysis indicates that the Pop-Up Book is an effective tool for enhancing students' cognitive, affective, and social dimensions. From a cognitive perspective, this media assists students in comprehending abstract scientific concepts through engaging three-dimensional visual representations. Within the affective domain, the Pop-Up Book has been demonstrated to cultivate students' interest and motivation to learn, while concurrently fostering curiosity and responsibility. From a sociological perspective, this medium fosters collaboration and communication among students engaged in learning activities. The utilization of Pop-Up Books in the context of science education in junior high school has been demonstrated to enhance comprehension of scientific concepts. Furthermore, it has been observed to foster creativity, refine critical thinking abilities, and fortify the affective and social dimensions of students. This multifaceted approach positions Pop-Up Books as an effective pedagogical tool.

Abstract

Science subjects, especially environmental materials, are conceptual and abstract, so they often cause difficulties for students in understanding them. One of the learning media reviewed in this literature study is STEM-based e-comics which are developed to improve conceptual understanding in a more interesting and contextual way. The implementation of this media is expected to increase students' interest, involvement, and critical and creative thinking skills in linking science concepts with real problems in the surrounding environment. The selection of STEM-based e-comics learning media is considered an innovative effort to create more effective, flexible, and 21st-century learning. This study uses a literature review method by analyzing nine national articles published in the last five years that focus on the development and implementation of STEM-based e-comics in science learning. The results of the study indicate that STEM-based e-comics have a positive effect on improving conceptual understanding, learning involvement, collaboration skills, creative thinking, and students' problem-solving abilities in accordance with the objectives of the current curriculum.

Abstract

Abstract: Good education is one that keeps pace with the times. Education in the 21st century, also known as the 4th Industrial Revolution, utilizes digital technology and focuses on 21st-century learning skills. In this context, the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model has emerged as a promising approach to enhancing critical thinking skills among junior high school students. This study aims to analyze the impact of implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on junior high school students' critical thinking skills through literature studies. The research method involved collecting and analyzing 13 scientific articles published in 2021-2025. The data analysis technique used was content analysis to categorize findings based on critical thinking indicators and the effectiveness of the PBL learning model. The results showed that PBL significantly improved students' critical thinking skills, with evidence of increased N-Gain, learning activity, and motivation. These findings are supported by various variations of PBL, including those assisted by technology and cultural contexts, demonstrating the effectiveness of PBL as an interactive and student-centered learning approach.Abstrak: Pendidikan yang baik yaitu yang mengikuti perkembangan zaman. Pendidikan di abad 21, juga disebut revolusi industri 4.0, menggunakan teknologi digital dan berfokus pada keterampilan belajar abad ke-21. Dalam konteks ini, model Problem Based Learning (PBL) telah muncul sebagai pendekatan yang menjanjikan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis di kalangan siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP).Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak penerapan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMP melalui studi literatur. Metode penelitian melibatkan pengumpulan dan analisis 13 artikel ilmiah terbitan tahun 2021-2025. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik content analysis untuk mengkategorikan temuan berdasarkan indikator berpikir kritis, dan efektivitas model pembelajaran PBL.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa PBL secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa, dengan bukti peningkatan N-Gain, aktivitas belajar, dan motivasi. Temuan ini didukung oleh berbagai variasi PBL, termasuk yang berbantuan teknologi dan konteks budaya, menunjukkan efektivitas PBL sebagai pendekatan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan berpusat pada siswa.

Abstract

Science literacy in science learning has a very important role to prepare qualified students who are able to compete in the international world. In reality, the level of science literacy among junior high school students are still relatively low. The solution that can be applied to improve student’s science literacy is to utilize digital learning media. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of using digital learning media in science learning on the level of science literacy of junior high s chool students. This research method uses the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method. This method is carried out with various activities, namely identifying, reviewing, evaluating, and interpreting all relevant research. The results of this study showed that all articles reviewed showed positive results in improving science literacy through the use of digital learning media. The conclusion that can be drawn is that digital learning media can be a solution to improve students' science literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of an assessment instruments based on Wordwall in measuring students' science process skills of junior high school science learning in environmental pollution materials. This research is a type of development research (Research and Development) that refers to the procedure of the Borg and Gall development model which has stages including research and information collecting, planning, develop the preliminary form of the product, product design validation, main product revisions, main field testing, operational product revision, operational field testing, final product revision. The subject of the study was a grade VII student of SMPN 2 Ajung, Jember. This study used instruments in the form of validation sheets, practicality sheets, student questionnaire sheets, and science process skills tests. Data analysis techniques used in research consist of validity test analysis, practicality test analysis, and effectiveness test analysis. The results showed that out of 20 multiple-choice questions developed from aspects of material, construction, and language based on the assessment of 3 validators were declared very valid and worthy of use without revision. The twenty multiple-choice questions tested have valid question item validity. The assessment instrument has a reliability value of 0.612. The difficulty level analysis obtained 5 easy criteria questions, 14 medium criteria questions, and 1 difficult criteria question. The effectiveness of the assessment instrument obtained the average results of students' science process skills of 55%, including the sufficient category and student response questionnaires of 81%, so they were declared very good.

Abstract

The research is based on challenges in learning, especially in nervous system material, where there are often misconceptions in students about the course of neural impulses and understanding the structure of the nervous system in humans. The purpose of the research is to develop learning media in the form of 3D-MbL puzzle media to help junior high school students understand the concept of nervous system material and conduct a SWOT analysis of the learning media. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques through observation, documentation, and questionnaires. The instrument used in this study is a validation sheet by two validators, namely material validation and media validation. 3D-MbL puzzle media is made using several tools and materials, with the main ingredients being made using flannel and analyzed using the SWOT method. The study's primary results show that 3D-MbL puzzle media can attract students' interest and hone creative thinking skills during learning. However, there are challenges, such as the media needing help to explain in detail the process of neural impulses and other essential concepts in the material of the nervous system. The opportunity of this 3D-MbL puzzle media can be used as an exciting anatomy of the human body, and the threat is that students do not understand how to use it if the teacher does not clearly explain the use of the media. In conclusion, 3D-MbL puzzle media for the nervous system offers innovations in delivering science learning materials. However, further improvements are needed so that this media can be more optimal in delivering learning materials.
