Abstract

Neonatal deaths are associated with preterm birth complications. The aim of this study was to analyze risk factors associated with LBW. This was a crosssectional study held in Bulu Primary Health Care, Temanggung, Central Java, Indonesia. The sample size required for this study was 69 based on the Slovin formula. Data were collected using questionnaires and semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire forms. Data on infant birth weight was taken from midwives’ delivery cohort records. Mid upper arm circumference (MUAC), hemoglobin level, blood pressure, maternal age, parity, nutritional intake, and serum transferrin receptor data were taken from the infant’s mother using a MUAC tape, automatic blood pressure monitor and blood laboratory analysis by Prodia. Data analysis procedures were carried out with quantitative methods. Descriptive statistics were analyzed as means and standard deviations. Inferential statistics used the chi-square test for bivariate analysis and binary logistic regression for multivariate analysis. The results of this study showed that mean infant birth weight was 2917.68 ± 374.673 kg. Inferential analysis showed that MUAC and pregnancy at a risky age were significant risk factors associated with LBW, while serum transferrin receptor levels, anemia, parity, energy and protein consumption levels, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure were nonsignificant risk factors. The probability of LBW in pregnant women with LILA under 23.5 cm and pregnancy at a risky age was 68.9%.

Abstract

The profession of dentistry is a job that is at risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Dentists often work in static and non-ergonomic positions for long periods of time, perform repetitive movements, and interact with patients in limited workspaces. A comprehensive understanding of the prevalence, location of complaints, and the most dominant risk factors is needed to develop effective prevention and intervention strategies to reduce musculoskeletal disorders. Objective to identify musculoskeletal disorders in dentists along with prevalence, pain areas and risk factors. The author used the PRISMA checklist to guide the selection of articles. The databases used were Science Direct and Scopus to search for academic articles published between 2020 and 2025 that met the predetermined content criteria with the keywords Musculoskeletal Disorders, Dentist, Dental, Prevalence, Work Related and Risk Factors. Initial findings based on keywords obtained 494 articles, then screening was carried out until 10 relevant articles to review. The prevalence of MSDs complaints reported in each article was between 58.3% - 93%. The highest pain areas in dentists were in the neck, lower back and shoulders. One of the most dominant risk factors is work posture. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are occupational health problems that are often experienced by dentists. Risk factors for MSDs are divided into individual characteristics, jobs, habits, and work environments. Interventions are needed to prevent MSDs in dentists such as ergonomic interventions and education since professional education.

Abstract

Stunting remains a prevalent health issue among children under two years old in Indonesia. The nutritional status of newborns, indicated by birth weight and length, is crucial for neonatal development. Malnutrition in neonates can lead to increased mortality rates, neurological and cognitive impairments, and stunting. This study aims to identify the risk factors associated with stunting among children aged 9-23 months in Indonesia, utilizing data from the 2018 Basic Health Research. The study design was cross-sectional. This study examined a sample of 7,396 children within the specified age group. The study reveals a stunting prevalence of 30.4% among children aged 9-23 months. Logistic regression analysis indicates that low birth weight (LBW) (AOR 1.854; 95% CI 1.50-2.30), birth length (AOR 1.550; 95% CI 1.37-1.74), and male gender (AOR 1.272; 95% CI 1.15-1.41) are significant risk factors associated with stunting in this age group. Therefore, addressing these factors is crucial for combating stunting among children under two years old in Indonesia.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors of  Low Birth Weight (LBW) in agricultural area (Breses district) with high pesticide exposure. The research was an observational study with case control design. Study subject were post partum-productive age (20-35 years) women, consisting of 60 cases (LBW) and 60 controls (non-LBW). The independent variables were maternal weight gain during pregnancy, MUAC in early pregnancy, hemoglobin levels in the third trimester body mass index before pregancy and level of pesticides exposure. Nutrient intake data was obtained by semiquantitative food frequency questionnaires (FFQ), maternal and child health (KIA) book and data on level of pesticide exposure was obtained through a structured interview. Data were analyzed by calculating the Odds Ratio (OR) using logistic regression. There was no differences in  age between cases and controls. Median length, mother’s education level, BMI and MUAC among the cases was lower than the control group. Low protein adequacy level (OR= 8.9; 95%CI:1.6-227.7); less weight gain (OR=9.1; 95%CI:2.9-28,); High pesticides exposure (OR=7.4;  95%CI:1.3-40.9); low MUAC <23.5 cm (OR=4.6; 95%CI:1.3-15.5) were LBW risk factors in Brebes. Inadequacy of nutritients and high pesticides exposure during pregnancy was LBW risk factors. Women are advised to increase nutrients intake and avoid  pesticides exposure during pregnant.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is essential for infant growth and maternal health. However, factors such as low milk production often hinder breastfeeding success. Herbal medicine is commonly used to stimulate milk production, yet awareness of its proper use among breastfeeding mothers remains inconsistent. Limited evidence exists on the factors influencing this awareness, particularly in primary health care settings.Method: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in March–April 2025 at the Primary Health Care Centers in Tegal Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. A total of 116 breastfeeding mothers were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires covering maternal, child, and family characteristics as well as awareness of herbal medicine use. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods.Result: Most breastfeeding mothers reported awareness and use of herbal medicine to support milk production. Factors associated with higher awareness included maternal age, employment status, and parental support. Many mothers, however, did not inform health workers about their herbal use. The conclusion is Awareness of herbal medicine use among breastfeeding mothers is influenced by maternal and family factors. Primary health care providers should play a stronger role in improving mothers’ understanding of breastfeeding challenges, appropriate herbal use, and the safety of herbal preparations.

Abstract

Introduction: Anemia among adolescent girls remains a global health concern, with prevalence reaching 30.7% among women aged 15–49 years in 2023. Education is essential in shaping behaviors toward anemia prevention. The rapid expansion of digital platforms provides new opportunities to deliver engaging and accessible health education. This review aimed to map available evidence on digital media interventions designed to improve anemia-related behaviors among adolescent girls. Methods: This review followed PRISMA guidelines. Eligible studies were interventional in design (quasi-experimental or pre–post), evaluated digital media interventions (e.g., videos, animations, social media, mobile applications, websites, or e-leaflets), targeted adolescent girls aged 12–22 years, and reported at least one behavioral outcome related to anemia. Studies published between 2014 and 2024 in English or Indonesian full text were included. Exclusion criteria comprised studies published before 2014, non-original research, studies not specific to anemia or adolescent girls, interventions not involving digital media, inaccessible paid articles, and ineligible designs. Searches were conducted in Scopus, ScienceDirect, and PubMed, and completed on 24 December 2024. Screening and extraction were managed using Mendeley and followed the PRISMA stages. Data were extracted on study characteristics, intervention details, comparator groups (where available), outcomes, and findings. Results: Nine studies fulfilled the criteria. Most reported significant improvements in knowledge, while some also showed gains in attitudes and practices. The most frequently used interventions included animated videos, mobile applications, and social media platforms, with interactive and visually engaging formats yielding stronger effects. Conclusion: Digital media interventions have demonstrated effectiveness in improving anemia-related behaviors among adolescent girls, with consistent effects observed in knowledge. Integration of these approaches into adolescent health programs is recommended. However, further rigorous research comparing different digital modalities is needed to guide implementation in diverse settings.
