Abstract

Fish silage is a semi-liquid product of fish preservatives with the addition of lactic acid, to change the fermentation process that converts carbohydrate sources into acids. Silage can be processed using lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The lactic acid bacteria used in this study were sourced from palm sap isolates. Lactic acid bacteria are a type of beneficial non-pathogenic bacteria that are very helpful in the fermentation process of feed and food ingredients. To determine the effect of adding 10% LAB concentration combined with corn flour and urea on the quality of fish silage and to compare the quality of fish silage based on various aspects of sensory evaluation, namely (aroma, texture, color) and the degree of fish silage. The stages of implementing this research include sampling, making fish silage, fermentation and organoleptic testing and testing the degree of storage. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the results of the organoleptic tests carried out showed that the fish silage produced was of good quality which was characterized by an acidic silage aroma, a silage texture that was not lumpy and not too soft, and an increase in the color of brown silage. The results of the study that the addition of 10% LAB combined with ground maize and urea gave a significantly different effect (P<0.05) on the quality of fish silage. Combined use of fish silage will affect the pH of the silage.

Abstract

Milk contains carbohydrates (lactose), protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. Horse milk has a whey protein composition such as lactoferrin, lysozyme, beta-lactoglobulin, alpha-lactoalbumin, immunoglobulin (Ig) and Bovine Serum Albumin. This literature study was conducted to describe the mechanism of the ability of antiviral compounds that contained in horse milk protein against viruses fromb the genus Flavivirus, the mechanism of ability of antiviral compounds contained in horse milk proteins against viruses from the genus Betacoronavirus. The preparation of this literature study was carried out from August to October 2021 which included searching references or libraries that were closely related to the title of Google Scholar using the Mendeley application, resumes and writing literature studies related to the workings of the antiviral compounds present in milk protein. horse which can be a therapeutic agent for viral disease in animals of the genus Flavivirus. Based on the literature review of the antiviral compounds from horse milk protein studied, it can be concluded that lactoferrin inhibits Japanese encephalitis virus infection in host cells mediated by lobes and lobes. Lactoferrin inhibits the attachment of SARS-CoV-2 to the host cell membrane involving the interaction of Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) on the surface of the host cell membrane. An envelope (E) protein found on the surface of the dengue virus hermorrhagic fever (DBD) that involved in virus transfer in host cells then infecting host cells and can be hindered by the ability of lactoferrin to interfere with the virus ability to infect host cells by attach the the Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs).

Abstract

Infectious diseases in livestock are a major issue in the global livestock industry. Kupang Regency is one of the livestock warehousing regions in NTT, and it also has issues every year owing to infectious diseases that target many species of livestock in the district, particularly cattle and pigs, which are the backbone of Kupang Regency. Recognizing the importance of livestock for the socioeconomic life of the local community and the magnitude of the effects that infectious diseases can have on livestock, one of the important strategic steps that must be taken is to empower livestock farmer groups in the effort to prevent infectious diseases in livestock, particularly in the safe and appropriate use of disinfectants. This community service was carried out at Camplong II Village, Kupang Regency, and three groups of livestock farmers from the village area participated. Counseling, interactive dialogues with livestock farmer groups, and demonstration on the use of appropriate and correct disinfectants were among the activities carried out. This activity revealed that many members of livestock farmer groups are still uninformed of the role and usage of disinfectants in the prevention of infectious diseases in their livestock. At the end of the program, the community learnt to distinguish different types of disinfectants and their applications in the farming managment.

Abstract

Pigs as livestock are playing role as providers and contributors of animal protein sources other than poultry and cattle. African swine fever (ASF) is a double-stranded DNA virus, in the family Asfarviridae and genus Asfivirus. ASF is an infectious disease in pigs with a mortality rate of 100%. The purpose of this study was to identify symptoms and risk factors that were similar to African swine fever (ASF) in Kupang City and to examine the dominant clinical symptoms of African swine fever (ASF)-like disease in Kupang City. Data were obtained from filling out questionnaires by 250 respondents as pig farmers. Primary data were processed and analyzed using SPSS and then presented in the form of graphs and tables. The results showed that ASF-like disease had general and specific clinical symptoms. However, the incidence of abortion in pregnant sows is rarely found, this is based on the number of farmers whose sows experienced abortions as much as 41.6%. Risk factors that can cause ASF-like diseases in Kupang City, namely the lack of public knowledge about livestock systems and management, poor application of biosecurity, feeding contaminated with ASF virus (swill feeding), frequent cross-breeding of livestock. In addition, there also risk factors for ASF-like diseases originating from human activities (anthropogenic) such as visiting.
