Abstract

Technology-based learning media have been proven to enhance learning by making it more engaging and increasing student interaction, motivation, and overall learning outcomes. However, few studies discuss students' perceptions of the types of learning media that effectively overcome their learning difficulties. Therefore, this study aims to determine students' perceptions of effective learning media that can help them overcome their learning difficulties. The quantitative descriptive method used in this study was applied to grade X students at SMAN 1 Ketapang, with samples selected using a proportional random sampling technique. Data were collected through Google Forms questionnaires containing both closed and open-ended questions and analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. This study's findings suggest that students' learning difficulties are often attributed to a lack of motivation, focus, and drowsiness. The teacher's delivery method also contributes to these difficulties, as it is less engaging, difficult to follow, and does not provide clear examples. This research highlights the importance of interactive learning media tailored to students' motivational and cognitive needs, as well as the need for regulatory and policy support in implementing these learning media. Through a comprehensive discussion, this research contributes to the development of more effective digital learning.

Abstract

Learning media play a vital role in enhancing students' understanding by transforming abstract concepts into concrete experiences, especially in today's technology-driven educational landscape. This study aims to analyze Junior High School students' preferences for learning media based on five indicators: learning modality, engagement and motivation, media effectiveness, technology and media use, and assessment preferences. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected through a four-point Likert scale questionnaire administered to 93 students across three Junior High Schools in Bener Meriah Regency. The findings reveal a strong preference for technology-based and multimodal learning media that integrate visual, auditory, and kinesthetic elements. Virtual laboratories were considered the most effective in facilitating concept comprehension, while multiple-choice tests were the most preferred form of assessment due to their objectivity and practicality. These results underscore the need for developing adaptive, interactive, and student-centered media that cater to diverse learning styles. This study contributes to the growing literature on media preferences by providing empirical insights that can help educators select more suitable learning tools and design inclusive instructional strategies. Such understanding is essential for improving student engagement, motivation, and academic achievement in 21st-century learning environments.

Abstract

Alternative educational institutions in Indonesia deal with significant problems in maintaining their unique pedagogical approaches, meeting regulatory requirements and societal expectations. This study addresses the problem of balancing institutional autonomy with systemic integration by introducing the adaptive dynamic of alternative education (ADAE) pattern. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through two focus group discussions (FGDs) with purposively selected participants representing three distinct alternative education institutions: Tanoker in East Java, Komunitas Belajar Qaryah Thayyibah (KBQT) in Central Java, and Sekolah Alam Sukahaji in West Java. The sample comprised 12 participants (3 institution heads and 9 teachers) chosen based on their understanding of their respective institution’s social situations. Additionally, two education experts with expertise in mainstream and alternative education were interviewed. The findings of the study reveal that ADAE is built on three integrated philosophical pillars: theomorphic, eduhumanistic, and futuristic. The pattern demonstrates how alternative educational institutions navigate between autonomy and integration through dynamic positioning influenced by external and internal factors. The research found the practical implications include a framework for alternative institutions that implementation of ADAE enables institutions to maintain their innovative practices, achieving legitimacy through measurable community impact.

Abstract

Sociology learning requires critical, analytical, and reflective thinking, which is often not fully supported by traditional teaching methods. Differentiated learning offers a way to address diverse student needs, and Moodle, as a Learning Management System (LMS), provides a potential platform to support this approach. This study aims to examine how Moodle can optimize differentiated learning in Sociology subjects. Using a quantitative descriptive method, data were collected from 176 students of grades XI and XII majoring in Sociology at SMAN 1 Jogonalan, selected through simple random sampling. The instrument was an online questionnaire with closed-ended Likert scale items and open-ended questions to explore challenges. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed that 48.30% of students rated their Moodle use as high, 26.14% as medium, and 25.57% as low. Students perceived Moodle as useful in increasing learning flexibility, supporting concept understanding, and accommodating individual learning styles. However, limitations were also identified, including insufficient infrastructure and a lack of digital proficiency. The study concludes that Moodle has the potential to strengthen differentiated learning in Sociology. The findings contribute to the development of technology-based learning strategies in secondary education and underscore the need for additional support and training to facilitate effective LMS implementation.
