Abstract

This study analyzes the revitalization strategies of Muhammadiyah's Da'wah Council (Majelis Tabligh) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) in supplying religious services to urban communities amid growing secularization pressures. Grounded in religious supply theory and capacity building framework, and informed by persuasive communication theory, this qualitative study collected data through in-depth interviews with ten key informants, participatory observation, and document analysis over six months, analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model. Findings reveal four interconnected revitalization strategies: strategic muballigh distribution, establishment of the Muhammadiyah Preachers Corps (2024), intensive training programs, and correctional institution partnerships (2025). Urban da'wah is implemented through community-based approaches, multi-channel digital media platforms, and cultural contextualization respecting Sasak traditions. Communication strategies operationalize Aristotelian ethos-pathos-logos principles, Hovland's Yale persuasion model, and digital adoption patterns consistent with Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation theory. Revitalization outcomes include enhanced Islamic literacy, strengthened community cohesion, maintained Islamic identity, and expanded social capital reaching marginalized groups. The study concludes that effective urban da'wah requires a comprehensive, adaptive, and communicatively grounded institutional strategy—one that integrates organizational capacity building with deliberate multi-channel persuasive communication to remain vitally relevant in modernizing urban contexts.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this community engagement activity is to improve the knowledge, soft skills, and hard skills of majelis taklim members in digital dakwah literacy, enabling them to become digital dakwah agents in their families, communities, and wider society. The program was conducted through methods such as socialization, workshops, counseling, discussions, and practical sessions on digital content creation at Masjid Baiturrahman Pesona Banyu Asri, Banyumulek, West Lombok. The main partner in this activity was Majelis Taklim Baiturrahman Pesona Banyu Asri, with 25 housewife members from diverse educational backgrounds. Evaluation was conducted systematically through pre- and post-tests, direct observation, and analysis of participants’ digital content creation outcomes. The results showed an increase in digital dakwah literacy understanding by 80%, an improvement in hard skills for digital content creation by 75%, and a rise in soft skills related to wise social media behavior and Islamic communication ethics by 85% compared to the pre-activity condition. Additionally, a simple digital dakwah community was formed within the majelis taklim environment, and participant motivation to spread Islamic messages through social media increased, indicating positive social and institutional impacts. This activity has encouraged the transformation of majelis taklim into a modern educational center for dakwah that is more adaptive to changing times and contributes to the development of a digitally religious community character. Keywords: digital dakwah literacy, majelis taklim, women’s empowerment, social media.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital communication has intensified the circulation of religious content on social media, while simultaneously increasing exposure to misinformation. In this context, digital literacy and media trust are assumed to play a decisive role in shaping students’ engagement in digital da’wah. However, limited empirical research has examined the combined influence of these variables within an integrated framework. This study aims to analyze the partial and simultaneous effects of digital literacy and media trust on university students’ interest in conducting da’wah through Instagram. This research employed a quantitative correlational design. The sample comprised 75 students from the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program at IAIN Kendari and at Muhammadiyah Mataram University. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that both digital literacy and media trust have positive, statistically significant effects on students’ interest in digital da’wah. Digital literacy emerged as the strongest predictor. Simultaneously, both variables explain 56% of the variance in students’ interest (R² = 0.560; p < 0.001), demonstrating substantial explanatory power. These results confirm that cognitive competence and affective trust jointly shape students’ participation in social media-based religious communication. This study contributes to the development of Islamic Broadcasting Communication by providing an integrative empirical model. Practically, it underscores the importance of strengthening digital literacy and fostering credible media environments to support responsible and active digital da’wah among university students.

Abstract

This study examines the communicative role of religious leaders in mediating the relationship between Islamic values and local cultural practices within the Begawe tradition of the Sasak community in Lombok. Existing scholarship on religious authority and local wisdom has largely overlooked the discursive mechanisms through which socio religious meanings are negotiated in communal ritual contexts therefore, this study aims to address this gap by analysing how religious narratives are constructed and strategically communicated. Employing a qualitative design grounded in critical discourse analysis, data were collected through in depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving five key informants representing religious, customary, and community leadership. The findings reveal that religious leaders function as cultural brokers who articulate adaptive Islamic discourses by integrating scriptural references, symbolic ritual language, and moral exhortations that legitimise tradition while responding to ongoing socio religious transformations. This mediation process fosters social cohesion and reinforces collective identity, yet also reflects contestations shaped by modernisation and differing Islamic orientations, particularly between Aswaja and Salafi groups. Overall, the study contributes to communication studies and the anthropology of religion by conceptualising local religious discourse as a dynamic cultural strategy for negotiating continuity and change in contemporary Muslim societies.

The shift in the meaning of socialite from social activities based on humanitarian concern to a symbol of self-existence in digital spaces has the potential to weaken humanistic and spiritual character. This community service program aims to provide mentoring and strengthen the character of socialite housewives through Qur’anic learning using the Quick and Smart Qur’an (QSQ) method in Perampuan Village, Labuapi District, West Lombok Regency. The implementation method includes program socialization, the formation of participant groups, and intensive Qur’anic study using visual, auditory, kinesthetic, storytelling, imagination, and interactive discussion approaches. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test, participatory observation, and activity documentation. The program involved 30 participants and was conducted through 10 intensive learning sessions. The results show that the active participation rate of participants reached 75%, and a sustainable Qur’anic learning community was successfully established. Quantitative evaluation indicates an increase in participants’ understanding of Qur’anic values by 38%. Furthermore, there was an improvement in several soft skill indicators, including a 30% increase in attendance discipline, a 25% increase in social empathy, and a 35% increase in spiritual commitment. The program demonstrates that the Quick and Smart Qur’an (QSQ) method is effective as an adaptive and transformative Qur’an-based character mentoring model for socialite housewife communities. Moreover, this model has the potential to be replicated as an approach to strengthening religious character development among women at the local community level. Keywords: Socialite Mothers; Qur’anic Learning; Quick and Smart Qur’an; Character Strengthening.

Abstract

The development of digital communication technology has brought significant changes to contemporary da'wah practices, particularly through the use of social media, which has become the main space for interaction for Generation Z. This condition opens up wider opportunities for young female preachers to convey Islamic messages through various digital platforms. However, the rise of viral culture on social media also presents challenges in maintaining the authenticity of religious messages while adapting them to the ever-evolving dynamics of digital culture. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the communication strategies used by Generation Z female preachers in responding to viral culture on social media without compromising the authenticity of Islamic preaching messages. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis methods on seven preaching contents published by Dinda Ibrahim through the Instagram platform. Data were collected through documentation techniques on digital content and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman data analysis model, which includes the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show three main strategies for digital da'wah, namely the internalization of moral values through contextual narratives and dialogic communication, the development of digital authenticity and credibility through consistency of values and emotional closeness with the audience, and the use of visual aesthetics as a language of da'wah through the use of humor, cosplay, and curated visual packaging. These findings indicate that the integration of moral narratives, authentic communication, and visual aesthetics keeps digital da'wah relevant and effective for Generation Z audiences.
