Abstract

Abstract

Adolescent resilience to premarital sexual behavior refers to the ability of individuals (adolescents) to face and overcome the pressure of premarital sexual behavior in everyday life in a healthy and productive way, namely the ability to adapt to situations by providing responses to improve themselves. Adolescents' permissive attitude towards premarital sexual behavior is associated with low levels of reproductive health knowledge, higher exposure to pornographic media, strong negative group influences, weak parental roles, low religious beliefs and negative environmental influences. This study aims to analyze and explain the relationship between the characteristics of D3 nursing students in Indramayu Regency, internal and external factors, and adolescent resilience to premarital sexual behavior, and to identify the most dominant types of variables. This type of research is an explanatory study with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents were D3 nursing students at both universities in Indramayu Regency totaling 175 respondents. Data were collected using a survey instrument. Data analysis: The analytical approach to this study used univariate techniques, bivariate techniques using the chi-square test, and multivariate techniques using multiple logistic regression tests. Abstract

Dementia is a syndrome characterized by a decline in intellectual ability that is severe enough to interfere with an elderly person's daily activities. It is still unknown whether specific variables are most frequently linked to dementia in nursing homes, despite the fact that a number of factors are known to cause dementia symptoms. The purpose of this research was to identify the risk factors for dementia in senior citizens residing in assisted living facilities. This study has a cross-sectional design. Eighty-six senior citizens, ages 60 to 90, who resided in two nursing facilities in Bandung and Garut, Indonesia, made up the research sample. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), which has a cut-off score of 24, is used to screen for dementia. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test and logistic regression to examine the link between risk factors and dementia. Education (p = 0.001), BADL (p = 0.014), IADL (p = 0.023), phonemic fluency (p0.001), semantic fluency (p = 0.001), QoL-physical (p = 0.007), QoL-psychological (p = 0.002), QoL-environment (p = 0.001), diabetes (p = 0.013), and depression (p = 0.001) were all significantly correlated with dementia, according to the results. Logistic regression tests showed that education (p = 0.005), phonemic fluency (p = 0.001), and QoL-psychological (p = 0.043) are known to provide the most significant contribution to the occurrence of dementia in senior individuals in nursing homes. It is advised that healthcare professionals offer preventative and promotional actions for senior dementia prediction.

Abstract

Introduction: Fractures are disruptions in the continuity of bone structure that may involve nerve injury, leading to postoperative pain and discomfort. Postoperative pain is a common and inevitable condition that requires effective management to prevent complications and enhance patient comfort. In addition to pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions such as aromatherapy are increasingly used as complementary approaches in pain management. Lemon aromatherapy is believed to have analgesic and relaxing properties that can help reduce pain perception after surgery. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of lemon aromatherapy inhalation in reducing pain intensity among patients following lower extremity fracture surgery. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a two-group pretest–posttest design was conducted at a hospital. A total of 20 postoperative patients with lower extremity fractures were recruited using a total sampling technique. The intervention involved inhalation of lemon aromatherapy by applying 5–6 drops of lemon essential oil onto a tissue placed on the patient’s chest for 30 minutes, accompanied by deep breathing exercises. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data analysis included tests of normality and homogeneity, paired sample t-tests, independent sample t-tests, and n-gain analysis. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in pain intensity after the intervention (p = 0.000). The mean pain score decreased from 7.9 (severe pain) before the intervention to 4.6 (mild pain) after the intervention, indicating a clinically meaningful improvement. Conclusion: Lemon aromatherapy inhalation is effective in reducing postoperative pain intensity among patients after lower extremity fracture surgery and may be considered a complementary nursing intervention for postoperative pain management.

Abstract

Introduction: The increasing elderly population in Indonesia is accompanied by a growing risk of cognitive decline and dementia. Current pharmacological interventions have limited effectiveness and may cause adverse effects, highlighting the need for safe, natural-based alternatives. Mangosteen peel (Garcinia mangostana) and gotu kola (Centella asiatica) possess neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties that may enhance cognitive function in older adults. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mangosteen peel and Centella asiatica extract supplementation in improving cognitive function among the elderly. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest two-group study was conducted among 26 elderly residents at Griya Lansia Garut selected by purposive sampling. The intervention group received combined mangosteen peel and Centella asiatica supplementation for four weeks. Cognitive function was measured using MMSE, TMT-A, and Forward Digit Span, with data analyzed using Wilcoxon and Mann–Whitney tests (p0.05). Results: The intervention group showed significant improvements in MMSE scores (Δ=2.15; p0.001), processing speed and attention as measured by TMT-A (p=0.021), and working memory as measured by Forward Digit Span (p0.001). Between-group comparisons revealed significant differences in MMSE (p0.001) and TMT-A score changes (p=0.008), whereas no significant difference was observed for Forward Digit Span (p=0.458). Conclusion: Supplementation with mangosteen peel and Centella asiatica extracts may improve global cognitive function and attention in elderly individuals. This combined botanical intervention shows promise as a supportive non-pharmacological strategy for preventing cognitive decline; however, larger randomized controlled trials are required to confirm its efficacy and safety.
