Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of speech in YouTube Metro TV shows in the Kiky Saputri and Ate segment while roasting the pair of presidential candidates for the Republic of Indonesia 01 in 2024. This study uses a pragmatic approach with a focus on three types of speech acts, namely locution, illocution, and perlocution. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques through documentation studies from videos lasting 34 minutes and 16 seconds. The results of the study showed that in the show there were various forms of locution speech in the form of statements, questions, and the delivery of literal information. The acts of illocution speech found included commands, sarcasm, and praise which were categorized into assertive, directive, expressive, and commissive functions. Meanwhile, the act of perlocution speech is seen through the reaction of the audience and speech partners which shows the success of communication in the context of humor and social criticism. These findings show that speech in the context of roasting not only contains elements of entertainment, but also conveys certain intentions and has an effect on listeners. This research is expected to contribute to the development of pragmatic studies, especially in understanding the function and strategy of language in social media, as well as becoming a reference for language educators and practitioners in fostering polite language awareness in the digital public space.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of AI application use on students’ narrative text writing skills and investigates the mediating role of writing self efficacy within a quantitative PLS SEM framework. AI enhanced writing environments have increasingly shaped literacy practices in digital era classrooms, providing automated feedback, structural guidance and interactive support that assist students in managing the cognitive complexity of narrative composition. Data were collected from junior secondary students who used AI based writing tools during classroom activities. The findings show that AI application use significantly improves narrative writing skills by enhancing linguistic accuracy, narrative coherence and idea development. The results also reveal that writing self efficacy partially mediates the relationship between AI application use and narrative writing skills. Students who frequently engaged with AI feedback cycles demonstrated higher confidence in their writing abilities, which subsequently contributed to improved narrative performance. The structural model highlights the interconnected cognitive and motivational pathways through which AI tools operate, suggesting that effective integration of AI based platforms can strengthen both competence and learner belief. The study concludes that AI applications should be systematically integrated into narrative writing instruction through structured drafting cycles and guided feedback checkpoints. Strengthening digital literacy and fostering writing self efficacy are essential to maximizing learning outcomes. Future research is encouraged to explore long term effects of AI supported writing instruction and variations across learner profiles

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of understanding Indonesian language equivalents for students in improving language literacy. Until now, students still face obstacles in finding the right equivalents due to the limited availability of easily accessible learning resources. To address this issue, this study utilizes the Halo Bahasa PASTI feature as a technology-based learning medium. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research subjects are students of SMA Negeri 14 Bone, selected based on ease of access and suitability with the research objectives. Data were collected through knowledge tests, observations, and documentation, then analyzed to describe the application implementation process, students' ability to use it, and students' knowledge of equivalent terms after using the application. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Halo Bahasa PASTI application went quite well. Most students were able to download, install, and operate the application independently, although some still needed further guidance. Students' ability to use the application was relatively good, especially in typing foreign terms, determining the search domain, and finding appropriate equivalents. From the knowledge test results, the majority of students achieved moderate to high scores, so it can be concluded that the use of the application contributed to improving students' understanding of Indonesian term equivalents.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of a multimodal gamified learning platform in enhancing student engagement and computational thinking (CT) skills in K–12 classrooms. Building on evidence that gamification and multimodal learning can positively influence motivation and complex skill development, the research adopts a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design with an embedded qualitative approach. Two parallel classes at each grade level (upper primary and lower secondary) were randomly assigned to either an intervention condition, using a multimodal gamified platform, or a control condition, receiving conventional instruction. Data were collected through classroom observations, student focus group interviews, teacher interviews, and artefact analysis of students’ digital work. Thematic analysis was used to generate a comprehensive qualitative account of how gamified and multimodal affordances shaped students’ behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement, as well as their CT practices (decomposition, abstraction, algorithmic thinking, and debugging). Findings suggest that the multimodal gamified platform fostered sustained engagement, promoted collaborative problem-solving, and supported more explicit CT articulation compared to traditional instruction. However, the study also identifies challenges related to cognitive overload, inequities in participation, and teachers’ design capacity. Implications are discussed for the design of constructively aligned multimodal gamified curricula and for professional development in K–12 contexts

Abstract

The rapid digital transformation in education requires innovative Indonesian language teaching materials that are interactive, skill-oriented, and aligned with students’ digital learning habits. However, many existing materials remain text-based and insufficiently integrated with multimedia and contextual approaches. This study aimed to develop and evaluate digital-based Indonesian language teaching materials to enhance students’ language skills. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model, including needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Data were collected through expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, observations, and pretest–posttest assessments measuring reading, writing, and speaking skills. The results indicated that the developed materials achieved a “very valid” category from experts (mean score 4.45; 88.9%). Statistical analysis showed significant improvement in students’ language skills after implementation (p < 0.001), with notable gains in reading, writing, and speaking performance. These findings demonstrate that digital-based teaching materials designed with interactive multimedia, contextual tasks, and cultural integration effectively enhance language competence. In conclusion, structured digital instructional design can serve as an evidence-based model for improving Indonesian language learning in primary education.

Abstract

The Society 5.0 era requires education to adapt to technological developments in order to improve the quality of learning, including in Indonesian language education. Digital literacy is a crucial aspect in the curriculum so that students are able to think critically, filter information, and communicate effectively in the digital space. This study aims to analyze the readiness of the Indonesian language education curriculum in facing the challenges of Society 5.0 through a literature review study. Data sources were obtained from scientific journals, books, and education policy reports in the period 2014–2024. The results of the analysis show that the integration of technology in language learning has great potential in increasing student engagement and learning effectiveness through e-learning, artificial intelligence (AI), and interactive digital media. However, its implementation still faces challenges in the form of digital infrastructure gaps, lack of readiness of educators, and a curriculum that is not fully adaptive to technological developments. Therefore, a comprehensive strategy is needed, including improving digital infrastructure, training for educators, and collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and the technology industry sector. With these steps, Indonesian language education can become a main pillar in building a literate, critical, and innovative generation in the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative literature study that examines the use of short films as a pedagogical medium to improve review writing skills in high school students in Indonesia. The gap between the curriculum demands of in-depth understanding, critical evaluation, and structured arguments and the descriptive nature of student writing emphasizes the need for authentic, engaging, and culturally relevant media. Short films, with their dense narratives, rich visual-auditorial stimuli, and measured duration, enable a holistic viewing experience that serves as the basis for specific assessments of plot, characters, cinematic style, and thematic messages. The proposed learning framework includes pre-viewing (schema activation, prediction), directed viewing/paused viewing (multimodal critical observation), post-viewing (evaluative discussion HOTS; think pair share; gallery critique), and review writing based on an analytical rubric (orientation, interpretation, evaluation, summary, filmic evidence). Literature data was obtained through database searches (Google Scholar, Garuda, DOAJ, ERIC), rigorously selected, and analyzed through open, axial, and selective coding with source triangulation. The findings synthesize evidence that short films improve motivation, multimodal literacy, writing structure, and argument quality, while also creating opportunities for differentiation, formative assessment, and technology/LMS integration to strengthen classroom practice and action research. The implications are that teachers can utilize transparent rubrics, incremental digital feedback, and youth-themed film resources to align writing instruction with the Pancasila Student Profile and encourage further classroom-based research.
