The researcher used pre-experimental research and carried out pre-test, treatment and post-test designs and collected test-based data. The sample was a class VIII.D student at MTs. Negeri Luwu Timur, a total of 28 students in the academic year 2020/2021. This sample was taken randomly by lottery. Variables are dependent and independent variables. The data was analyzed using SPSS. The showed that class VIII.D student pre-test results were of sufficient value. The results of this study were that the mean value obtained by the students through the pre-test was (58,14) while the post-test was observed (82,29) as result, the significant value of the paired sample test is lower than the significant level, i.e. 0.000 <0.05. Then find the value of the table t of 1,673. This is because the t value is 40,616>1,673. From these data, it is shown that the use of the prediction strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension on recount text, it can be concluded from the above data that the student's reading comprehension has been improved by using the prediction strategy as a learning tool and students’ can be active in the learning process through the use of the prediction strategy.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the students’ reading comprehension ability after implementing HOTS in learning process and the differences between those who are taught by implementing HOTS and those who are not, especially in making inference. This quasi-experimental research using two groups, experimental and control group through pre-test and post-test results. The samples are 23 students from class VIIIC and 22 students from class VIIIB of SMP Negeri 1 Cina which are taken by using Purposive Sampling Technique. The data obtained are analyzed using SPSS Application version 25.The finding shows that the mean score of pre-test in experimental class is 48.04 and the post-test score is 71.09. While in control class, pre-test score is 48.42 and in post-test is 50.91. After implementing HOTS in the classroom, reading comprehension ability increases to 32.42% and 4.9% in control class. This finding indicates that HOTS brings good effect in learning reading comprehension process because students can get used to questions related to making inference and their ability to answer reading comprehension questions improves. Students be able to predict questions and provide logical reasons related to texts and learning materials. Then it can be concluded that there are differences between those who are taught by HOTS and those who are not, in terms of learning outcomes and also the way they think.

Then, there was an effect as many as 83.14% (smoothness) and 50.59% (pronunciation) in describing some topics in three meeting (personal introduction, introduce their family, or explain their favorite place). It means that the student in the speaking class by using Time Token method could affect their speaking ability especially Fluency(smoothness) and pronounciation. However, this only method could not significantly affect the holistic speaking learning activities unless teachers’ use it in their teaching and learning procces.

Abstract

This thesis aims to find out the effect of Integrating Communicative tasks and Cognitive Approaches on students’ English Language Speaking skills in terms of pronunciation and fluency for the first grade of SMPN 3 Bajeng.Pre-test and post-test were employed in this pre-experimental study. The kids at SMP Negeri 3 Bajeng VII grade make up the population of this study, and the researcher employed random cluster sampling to create the sample. The study's sample consisted of 27 pupils. A speaking test with 4 questions served as the research tool. The analysis of the data reveals that before the treatment, there was a difference in the scores of the students taking the pre-test and post-tests. The fact that the post-test score of 57.40 is greater than the pre-test average of 35.18 indicates that pupils have improved their pronunciation skills. Pre-test 34.25 and post-test 64.81 together demonstrate the student's fluency's mean score. Additionally, it was determined through the t-test analysis that the t-test value was higher than the t-table; the value was 11.83>2.05. Hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (H1) is accepted as the result of this study's hypothesis. It means that integrating communicative tasks and cognitive approach has an effect on the pronunciation and fluency of students in speaking skills.
