Abstract

This research aimed at finding out the students’ challenges on the synchronous learning through Google Meet focused on online English learning. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research as research. The population of this research was the students at the eight-grade students of SMPN 1 Bontonompo who have been learning online synchronous learning through Google Meet. Ten students were chosen for the study using a purposive selection approach. Semi-structural interviews were used in this study. The findings of the research indicated that there were challenges and difficulties associated with English online learning via Google Meet, which was implemented at SMPN 1 Bontonompo. These challenges and difficulties included unstable internet connections during learning, limited learning media due to students' lack of laptops or smartphones, limited time and techniques for providing online explanations, and students who did not comprehend the material during online learning. As a result, it can be stated that the online learning process presents certain difficulties for those who do not comprehend the subject offered. Some of the students who did not get a signal struggled to comprehend the content during the learning process, and the instructor was also unable to immediately communicate the students' comprehension of the teacher-provided material. The findings of solution for English students to face the challenges of online learning through Google Meet is to keep trying their best following online learning and following the rules and decisions of their respective teachers because studying in the classroom with the teacher directly cannot be replaced by anything

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the Effect of Smartphone on Students’ Speaking Skill. The research design was used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pattallassang sub-district of gowa. The researcher was used total sampling technique. The researcher uses this technique because all the members of the selected had similar characteristic and the same relatively baseline knowledge based on their test examination average scores. The total number of samples was 30 students from class VII-5. The Speaking tests were administered in the pretest and posttest. The instrument was intended to measure the students’ enrichment of speaking. The test Speaking aspects in this research are: fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, accuracy and comprehensibility. Based on the research findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that the use of Smartphone enriches the students’ speaking skill; it is proved by the mean score of the students’ posttest. The t-test of the students’ speaking achievement in posttest was smaller than α (0.000 < 0.05). It meant that the H1 of the hypothesis was accepted.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension by using Blog that focused on literal comprehension in term of main idea and interpretive comprehension in term of conclusion. The writer applied pre-experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design, and collected the data by giving pre-test and post-test. The sample of the research was class XI IPA of SMA Batara Gowa which consisted of 21 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. The research findings showed that the eleventh grade students of SMA Batara Gowa had poor score in pre-test. After treatment, their reading comprehension was significantly increased. The result of the research were the mean score literal reading obtained by the students through pre-test was 69 and post-test was 77,2 with the t-test value main idea is greater than t-table (8,2> 2,08). Mean score interpretive reading pre-test 67, 3 and post-test 75 with the t-test value conclusion comprehension is greater than t-table (7, 6> 2, 08). The use of Blog increased literal comprehension in term of main idea and interpretive comprehension score in term of conclusion. Literal comprehension improved11, 8% and interpretive improved 11, 4%. The result of calculating t-test of the indicators in the students t-test reading comprehension (literal and interpretative comprehension) is greater than t-table 15, 8 > 2, 08. It means that there is significance difference between before and after giving the treatment).

Abstract

This research aimed in finding out the effectiveness of Facebook wall to improve students’ ability in writing recount text. The research applied Quasi experimental design model nonequivalent. The sample of the research were two class with the first class 20 and the second 20 class with using purposive sampling technique. The instrument of the research was writing English test. The population of the research was the eleventh grade student of SMA N 1 Sungguminasa and the number of sample was 20 students. The result of research in experimental class and control class in writing recount text in terms of content and mechanics in eleventh grade IPS 2 and IPS 3 showed. Percentage improving in experimental class in term content was 79.39 % improving from posttest 59.2, pretest 33, range pretest to posttest 26.2 % and 70.80 % improving in mechanics from posttest 69.6, pretest 40.75 range pretest and posttest 28.85 %. The percentage in control class in term of content was 66.31 % from posttest 54.05, pretest 32.5, range pretest to posttest 21.55 % and in mechanics was 58.28 % in posttest 60.7, pretest 38.35, range pretest to post test was 38.35%. Statistics hypothesis T-test value was 36.53 and T-table 1.78 which mean (H1) was significant improve.

Abstract

This research aimed at findings (1) Students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform in learning English; (2) The challenges faced by students of Madrasah Aliyah Swasta DDI CITTA in using WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform in learning English. The methodology of this research was descriptive quantitative and qualitative method.The population is 118 students at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta DDI CITTA.The sample consist of 30 students that took randomly at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta DDI CITTA. The instruments used in this research were questionnaire and interview. The findings shows that from 20 items on questionnaire, disagree and strongly disagree has the highest percentage on positive statement. Disagree had a percentage of 30-63% and strongly disagree had a percentage of 26,67-60%.Then, agree and strongly agree had the highest percentage on negative statements. Agree had a of 20-73% and strongly agree had a percentage of of 20-70%. Meanwhile interview results show that there were three challenges faced by students in using WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform namely, students did not understand the material, bad network and internet data. Based on the data obtained, the researcher concludes that students gave negative perceptions on the use of WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform in learning English.
