Abstract

This study analyzes the challenges of food security and the policy responses of the government in achieving food self-sufficiency in South Sulawesi in 2025. The research aims to identify production-consumption gaps, distribution bottlenecks, and the impacts of climate variability and agricultural policies on food availability, accessibility, and affordability. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques through household surveys, in-depth interviews with farmers and policymakers, field observations, and secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency and the South Sulawesi Agricultural Department. The results reveal persistent production deficits for rice and soybeans, while corn has reached a surplus, illustrating structural imbalances among staple commodities. Approximately 62% of respondents reported difficulties in transportation and storage due to inadequate infrastructure, contributing to post-harvest losses and unstable food prices. Government programs such as irrigation development, input subsidies, and farmer training have provided partial benefits, yet 57% of farmers indicated irregular access to such support. Moreover, climate shocks such as El Niño continue to depress yields and increase vulnerability among smallholder farmers. Conversely, social capital, manifested in farmer groups and cooperative networks, has played a significant role in sustaining household food availability and resilience. The findings suggest that food security in South Sulawesi cannot be addressed solely through production increases. A multifaceted strategy is required, emphasizing rural infrastructure development, climate-smart agricultural innovation, institutional and irrigation reform, and community-based mechanisms that strengthen social capital. This integrative approach provides empirical evidence for policy design and contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable food self-sufficiency in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between anemia and quality of life in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis at Royal Prima Hospital. An analytical observational design using a cross-sectional approach was used. Data were collected from pre-existing medical records, and quality of life was assessed using a modified WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire that evaluates various aspects of life using a 5-point Likert scale. The chi-square test was used to determine the significance of the relationship between anemia status and quality of life among patients. A study of 51 hemodialysis patients at Royal Prima Hospital showed a high prevalence of anemia, with 86.3% of patients showing hemoglobin levels below the normal range. Although most patients (92.2%) were prescribed Sangobion, an iron supplement, many patients remained anemic, indicating a potential problem in terms of treatment efficacy or compliance. The duration of hemodialysis varied among the participants, with most undergoing treatment for more than 24 months, while the others were on hemodialysis for less than 24 months. About 92.2% reported a moderate quality of life, while only 7.8% experienced a poor quality of life. Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in the quality of life between patients with and without anemia (p=0.495), indicating that anemia may not have a direct impact on the overall quality of life for this patient population. In conclusion, although anemia is prevalent in hemodialysis patients at Royal Prima Hospital, its association with quality of life appears to be limited based on the findings of this study. Future research should focus on understanding the causes of anemia in this population and developing targeted strategies to improve the hematological status and overall quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Abstract

Wound healing, especially incisions, is still a problem in the health sector due to the many cases and treatment approaches used during globalization. This research tested whether ethanol extract cream from gambier leaves (Uncaria Gambir Raxb) could accelerate the healing of skin wounds in male Wistar rats. Pre-test and post-test with control group design were used in this laboratory experiment. In this study, the acceleration of healing was the dependent variable. Meanwhile, gambier leaf extract cream is an independent variable in the laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of North Sumatra. The research process has several stages: Rat acclimatization, Gambir Leaf Extract and Cream Formula, White Rat Incisions, Histopathological Observations, and Data Processing. SPSS 22 analyzes research data. Shapiro-Wilk determined data normality. One-way ANOVA calculated group mean differences for well-distributed data (P > 0.05). The Post Hockey (HSD) test detected significant treatment differences (P 0.05). The Kruskal-Walli test is used for irregular data. In white mice, 15% gambier leaf extract cream healed cuts better than 5% and 7.5%. However, gambier leaf extract cream 7.5% has a performance like 15%. At a concentration of 7.5%, secondary metabolite compounds from gambier leaf extract heal wounds, while low concentrations suppress bacteria, making them less effective. Thus, gambier leaf extract contains antioxidant phytochemicals that can be used as medicine.

Abstract

The forestry sector is significantly impacted by the Job Creation Law, which alters the legal framework governing the sector. This paper explores the formulation of forestry policies under the Job Creation Law and examines its implications for forest protection in Indonesia. A normative juridical research method is employed, focusing on the analysis of relevant theories, doctrines, and statutory regulations. Key changes in forestry sector regulations include the confirmation of forest areas, determination of forest area size, modifications to the designation and function of forest areas, the utilization of production and protected forests, business permits, non-tax state revenues (PNBP), use of forest areas outside forestry activities, and the roles of central and regional governments in forest protection. Additionally, the law revises prohibitions on activities leading to forest destruction and adjusts sanctions and procedural laws concerning forest-related criminal cases. These changes raise concerns regarding the potential for increased forest area conversion, reduced community involvement in forest management, and weakened sanctions, particularly the removal of absolute liability, which may undermine effective forest protection.
