Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that affects child growth and has long-term impacts on quality of life. This community service activity aimed to reduce stunting rates and empower communities in addressing family nutritional deficiencies. The methods used included counseling, training, and community group mentoring. The results showed an increase in mothers’ understanding of stunting by 42%, an improvement in the number of families applying balanced nutrition from 56% (pre-test) to 86% (post-test), as well as the establishment of 52% new nutrition and medicinal plant gardens (TOGA) with active participation from 84% of participants. This activity demonstrates that educational and participatory community-based approaches are effective in raising awareness and fostering community independence in stunting prevention.

Abstract

Pregnant women are highly vulnerable to nutritional problems such as Chronic Energy Deficiency (CHD), deficiency of micronutrient intake (iron, zinc, and vitamin A intake), anemia, and Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD). Micronutrient deficiencies in pregnant women must be specifically prevented. A healthy and nutritionally balanced diet is essential for maternal and fetal health. The review study aimed to identify the role of micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Iodine, Vitamin A, and Folate) during pregnancy. The literature review used a scoping review technique referring to the Arksey and O'Malley framework. The literature review (2012-2022) used the online databases PubMed, Science Direct, Willey Online Library, ProQuest, and Springer. The search used Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), including the variables "role of nutrients," "pregnant women," "micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Iodine, Vitamin A, Folate)," and "during pregnancy." The selection of articles using the PRISMA Flowchart starts with identification, screening, eligibility, and selected articles. Results, this literature study has found 18 articles that are feasible and meet the criteria. This study identified that women preparing for pregnancy and pregnant women must pay attention to nutrient intake at conception, nutritional status in trimesters I to III, and the role and intake of micronutrients during pregnancy both for maternal health and optimal health fetal growth. Obtaining adequate and balanced micronutrient intake is very important to maintain the health of pregnant women and fetuses during pregnancy. In conclusion, the role of micronutrients is significant for pregnant women and fetuses. One of the most important for pregnant women and fetuses is vitamin B9), which helps form red blood cells, maintain a healthy nervous system, and help in iron metabolism. Folic acid also helps in fetal growth and development, and iron helps produce red blood cells and maintains adequate oxygen levels in the body.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Nutritional status is a major global health issue that frequently leads to the deaths of children under five years old. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), malnutrition accounts for 45% of deaths in this age group. In Indonesia, one key factor contributing to high rates of malnutrition among children under five is insufficient maternal knowledge. Enhancing maternal understanding of nutrition can be achieved through nutrition education, with Motion Graphics being one effective educational media.Research Objective: To assess the impact of Motion Graphic media education on the four pillars of balanced nutrition regarding the knowledge and attitudes of mothers with toddlers in Cot Gadong Village, Jeumpa District, Bireuen RegencyMethods: This study uses the Research and Development method with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Primary and secondary data are collected, and they are subsequently put through editing, coding, scoring, processing, and cleaning steps. Both quantitative and qualitative data were acquired. Utilizing SPSS software for data analysis, the T-Dependent test with a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05) was included. Results: The average scores from the tests are as follows: 85.51% from the material expert, 85.96% from the media expert, and 93.33% from the language expert. The average knowledge level before education was 41.57, which increased to 83.33 after education. Similarly, the average attitude score rose from 40.20 before education to 87.23 after education. Statistical analysis shows p values of 0.000 for both knowledge and attitude. Conclusion: The creation of Motion Graphic media on the four pillars of balanced nutrition can enhance both the knowledge and attitudes of mothers with toddlers in Cot Gadong Village, Jeumpa District, Bireuen Regency.

Abstract

The nutritionist should keep abreast of technological developments to improve information on nutritional needs and assessment of individual nutritional status, supporting efficient community and clinical nutrition reporting, which can facilitate nutrition assessment and intake monitoring. This study aims to develop and evaluate the functionality and usability of an Android-based nutrition assessment application, NutrAnt, for individual nutrition assessment. The design used a Research and Development (R&D) model conducted in Banda Aceh City and Aceh Besar from April - December 2023. The subjects involved 53 nutritionists and nutrition experts who were purposively selected. The method used is the Waterfall Models which consists of four stages: problem identification, system design, system development, and system testing. Application testing is done with blackbox testing and usability testing. Results showed high functionality ratings, with an 85.5% satisfaction score from Health Office nutritionists and a 90.0% score from a team of nutrition experts. NutrAnt proves to be a valuable tool, significantly enhancing the capabilities of nutritionists in assessing patient nutritional needs both in community and clinic settings. Future development should consider expanding the app's functionalities and adapting it for a broader user base. This innovation offers a practical advancement in digital tools for nutrition assessment, with promising implications for improved nutritional care and reporting.

Abstract

Nutritional problems in adolescents are due to poor nutritional intake, which results in an imbalance between intake and needs. The Western diet in adolescents is increasing, one of which is the frequent consumption of fast food. Counseling about the dangers of fast food using print media is less effective, so the use of animated videos is more likely to be utilized as a medium for counseling. The study aimed to measure the benefits of nutrition counseling using animated video media on knowledge and attitudes in adolescents about the dangers of fast food. The research used a quasi-experimental design, which was conducted on adolescents of SMA Negeri 3 Banda Aceh (Senior High School) from January to March 2023. The sample consisted of 40 adolescents in class XI, selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through an interview using questionnaire, both before and after the intervention. The intervention was conducted through counseling using animated video media on the dangers of fast food. Data analysis was performed using Paired T-test at 95% CI. The result showed there was an increase in knowledge from (59.00) to (87.00) and an increase in attitude from (64.74) to (80.01) about the dangers of fast food. There is an effect of counseling using animated video media on increasing knowledge (p=0.001) and attitude (p=0.019) of adolescents about the dangers of fast food. In conclusion, the use of animated videos as  medium for counseling has significant benefits in increasing adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about the dangers of fast food consumption.
